Little CC is a sweet 8 year old Shih tzu who almost died TWICE recently! She was given away on Facebook, and was seriously ill with pyometra, a potentially deadly uterine infection as a result of not being spayed. Luckily thanks to immediate medical care she survived her emergency spay surgery, but had some complications and ended up struggling to breath with severe aspiration pneumonia post op. She was hospitalized and on oxygen for several days, but pulled through once again. She's a mellow little senior girl who likes to just hang out and nap with her people (and she SNORES! quite loudly due to her little snorty pushed in face). CC does have chronic dry eye common in the breed which requires daily prescription eye drops longterm, and had some low grade cancerous mammary masses removed during her surgery so will have to be monitored in the future, but right now there is no sign of spread. She does well with other chill dogs, and has even been caught playing and wrestling with our shy puppy Steve! Meet Rufus.... What a confident little guy.... Rufus found himself unwanted by private sales in a puppy mill in Wisconsin. This is very common, as people cherry pick thru the litter and buy the pups that are perfect in size, looks and personality. Pet store were not interested in this cross breed as well. Rufus is a 4 month old Shihtzu / Chihuahua / Rat Terrier.. Rufus mostly looks Shihtzu, we see zero Chihuahua or Rat Terrier in him. He is considered low shedding, but since he looks extremely Shihtzu, we feel he is very hypoallergenic. Most people with allergies do well with this cross. Rufus is a gorgeous merle color... He is a head turner for sure... Rufus is very sweet, playful and confident. Rufus also loves to be held, he is so comfortable around people and other dogs. Meet Kayla.... Everyone always asks where the mill moms are... Well here you go..... Sweet Kayla is a 6.5 year old female Shihtzu. She has spent her whole life being a breeding machine for a puppy mill. Those days are now over for this sweetheart. Kayla will be seen by our vet next week for bloodwork and a spay appointment. If our vet feels she needs a dental, she will get that completed as well. When we get offered the moms, we jump to get them out of these mills, we do everything needed to get them ready for a better life. Kayla is shy and definitely confused, she will need time and patience to get settled some where. She seems to do well with other dogs of all ages and sizes. We will observe her over the next few days to see where she is with kids and potty training. Most mill moms do better in quieter homes, without young kids. They usually need some potty training structure, but catch on quickly to an outside potty routine. Kayla weighs around 12 pounds. She was extremely matted when she came in. She was definitely uncomfortable. Kayla was so good in the bath and for an hour long grooming session, since she was so matted. Some may say - Kayla has a face only a mother would love. We are hoping there is a perfect family out there for her. One with patience, and love to give. A family that won't care about her underbite, big eyes and skittish personality. This is what rescue is all about... Meet HC Lizard TX! We don't know very much about this boy except that his owners found themselves without a home and unable to care for him and their other dogs. Lizard is now safe in a foster home and as we learn more about him we will update his biography. Lizard is a Shih Tzu mix, approximately 1 year old, and weighing just 11 pounds. Lizard's foster tells us that he is terrified of cats larger than 10 pounds. He will “scream” when they just look at him, however, he is good with and enjoys the company of smaller cats as you can see in his photos. He will actually groom them and sleeps with them. Lizard gets jealous when larger dogs get close to him when he is near his foster mom. He will growl and bark and may snap. Lizard would be best in a home with no other dogs and perhaps a laid back smaller cat. Lizard will do his business outside but will also utilize wee wee pads. Lizard has dry skin above his tail.
