Story
When this poor little gal wandered up to someone's house as a stray and no owner could be found, Souffle was taken in by a rescuer. She will be heading soon to NorthStar Pet Rescue to find a permanent home. She was quite neglected in her previous home but she has seen the vet and begun treatment for dry eye and her infected ears. She will also be getting a dental & any other vetting she needs to feel better! She was such a trooper throughout her vetting - we were all impressed at her sweet personality. Souffle is about 14 years old and weighs under 17 pounds. She is housebroken and loves to go for car rides! She does fine in a crate or an inside pen. And as you can see in the video, she's a champion leash walker! Her favorite activity is sitting in your lap. This gal is a big-time snuffler! If you would like to meet little Souffle when she arrives, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her name - SOUFFLE TX!April 25, 2024, 3:15 pm

Story
Maser's owner brought him to a Texas shelter and as a "euthanasia request" as they could no longer care for him. Just in the nick of time, this senior Shih Tzu was pulled to safety by NorthStar Pet Rescue. He will be checked over by their vets to see what health issues Maser needs to have treated. Maser is 8 years old and weighs 16 pounds. Once he has been vetted, he will be able to find a loving forever home. If you would like to meet Maser, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for him by name, MASER TX!April 25, 2024, 3:15 pm

Story
Update 12/26/22: Our little grinch Mad Max had a lot to be grumpy about this holiday season. He has just passed his 1 year anniversary with our rescue, which meant an annual vet visit, shots updated, bloodwork… he was displeased 😡 His owners had said he was about 4 years old, but he’s definitely more at the senior stage of his life according to his recheck this week, at least 7-8 years old. Since they couldn’t seem to keep him from constantly running loose and playing in traffic, it’s not surprising they couldn’t count either 🤦‍♀️ He is still an angry little mad man at times but has mellowed quite a bit- between his age and low-stress low-expectation lifestyle he’s been living, maybe he will actually be a nice dog by the time he’s a teenager. If you respect his space and let him be himself he’s actually pretty pleasant and easy to live with, has an understanding with his other weird bad boy dog friends, and appreciates a stable routine. Definitely no children and a calmer adult home, he’s looking for someone who understands him and will work to build a bond of mutual respect, maybe even love one day. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Mad Max in Northern NJ Meet Mad Max! He came to us with a bit of a reputation… a multiple time running-at-large offender whose owner finally decided to just not pick him back up from the shelter instead of just getting him neutered and being more careful to keep him at home 🤦‍♀️. He was a feisty guy at the shelter with a big personality, aloof with strangers, protective of his food, and not liking some handling. In other words a normal Lhasa type personality and Second Chance demon dog🤷‍♀️. Here he’s not as bad as expected, respectful of the dogs and has warmed up and been sweet and avoidant of confrontation for the most part, definitely no Ray or even Prancer. He seemed to actually be very accustomed and comfortable with a basket muzzle for grooming and vetting which is great… without the muzzle he tried tasting the clippers 😖 but as soon as the muzzle was on he immediately flopped down and calmly allowed us to shave him. Rated R for sure, no kids and a respectful adult home that knows when to give him space and give him attention on his terms. Another dog or a few dogs to live with seem to help balance him, and he so far seems to be pretty housebroken as well as wee wee pads if needed. Mad Max is approximately 4 years old and we think a Lhasa and/or Shih Tzu mix, 15lbs full grown, and is neutered and updated on shots. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet him Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we can schedule socially distant appointments with a specific dog outdoors at our vet’s office: VCA Morris Plains Animal Hospital 3009 Rt 10 East Morris Plains (Denville on GPS) NJ 07950 Now is the perfect time to open your home to a needy dog! Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Buster is another tough little demonically possessed tiny dude who grudgingly (mutually, especially on our part, we really really really didn’t want another one right now) found his way to our rescue. We wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he’s related to our also crazy little semi-adoptable Nayla-squirrel-muppet as they share many of the same qualities, looks and personality and originated in the same town. Buster is 4 years old, under 10 lbs, and may be the fountainhead from which this whole family of little psychos have sprung 😳 We aren’t sure of his mix- Nayla’s Dna test showed she’s mostly Shih tzu, Lhasa, chihuahua, and min pin. We would get him a dna test to confirm their relation but don’t think he would allow us to swab his mouth 🦷. He doesn’t want to be held responsible for all that child support. He’s neutered now so the gene pool is hopefully dead forever at last. Buster has many great qualities. He’s adorable to look at, small and cute with an expressive face. He seems to be pretty good about housebreaking. He’s…. Umm, nope that’s it, that’s all his good qualities. He’s never murdered anyone as far as we know, or he’s covered up his past crimes well enough 🤷‍♀️ His likes include being told he’s cute from a distance, looking cute in photos, having his own space, and perching on his favorite soft comfy pillow surveying his empire. That’s all we have identified so far. His dislikes? It’s a long, long list. Let’s see: vets, groomers, having his eye boogers wiped, being startled or handled when he doesn’t want to be, strangers, children, strangers’ children, babies, people considering having babies in his lifetime, visitors, delivery men, repairmen, probably men in general, being cuddled, being kissed in the face, being dressed up… that’s what we know so far. If you want to adopt him for some reason you can spend a lifetime discovering new things to enjoy hating together. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Buster in Northern NJ if you want a cute little Devil 😈 dog and the perfect excuse to be antisocial and get people to leave you alone and not ask you to babysit their children ever again. Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
We haven’t introduced you to Mushy yet, but he is the overlooked/turned away-by-other-rescues or euthanized-for-failing-outdated-temperament-tests-in-shelters type of little dog we take in all the time to give not just a second chance, but their only chance. Their last chance. We have been working with him behind the scenes to make friends with him for a couple weeks, and it finally paid off. The first week was rough, not going to lie. He screamed and bared all his teeth when approached. He peed and pooped on the vet in terror while his head was wrapped in a towel to safely get shots into him. He’s just not the love at first sight type at all. But we just left him alone and offered him treats every day until one day we could finally pet him. And he realized he liked it. And then he asked to be picked up. And liked it. And then he even liked being brushed and groomed. Mushy actually lived up to his name and showed how mushy and cuddly he could be! He’s never going to be a happy go lucky, wagging his tail at strangers, walking the kids to the bus stop and letting people pet him kind of dog like a goofy happy pit bull or golden retriever. And that’s ok. He’s not for everyone. He’s a true one-woman dog and a master cuddler with his chosen person once you have worked to earn his trust. Once he loves you, his world revolves around you, and he will be the most trustworthy and reliable little furry person in your life. His second more comprehensive text exam once he bonded to us went much better, and he even wagged his tail and took some treats from the vet! So there is definitely hope for him making new friends, it just takes time and letting him make the decisions. Mushy LOVES other dogs- he follows and cuddles with them and they seem to give him more courage. He’s been used to living in a “pack” and would love to live in a multi dog home again where the dogs far outnumber the humans. He’s about 5 years old, under 15lbs, in good shape medically, neutered and updated on shots. For dogs like Mushy, the greatest gift we can give them is the gift of time and space to warm up to us on their terms, and let them live as happy and stress-free as possible in foster as we get to know them. Once they show us they have the potential to be happy, they stay with us as long as needed to find the right home, be it a week, a month, or a year, or more. We won’t push dogs like Mushy into an overwhelming situation or the wrong home environment just to get him out, but we would love to find him the right home soon so we have space to help the next misunderstood little guy like him. Email us at njwoof@cs.com if you are interested in adopting Mushy or any of his little friends in Northern NJ. And please share his story to help him in his search for his perfect person. Story
Meet Waldo....... Where has this handsome guy been..... Waldo came in from a puppy mill in the midwest. Waldo was sold to a pet store, but rejected due to a small umbilical hernia. This is very common with puppies, and usually causes no pain to the pup. Vets can repair the hernia during routine spay and neuter surgery. Waldo is a 10 week old Teddy Bear - which is a Shihtzu / Bichon. He is considered hypoallergenic. Waldo is very sweet. He is adjusting well in foster, and is definitely having a great time playing with toys, other pups and getting lots of love from our volunteers. We estimate his full growth weight to be under 20 pounds. Using a wee wee pad and the outdoors for potty training. Being fostered in Butler NJ Send an email to Onepawatatimerescue@gmail.com and request an application **** The only way to get an application is to send us a direct email.
