Story
Meet Baby Valentine! This adorable Shih Tzu mix was named because he was surrendered on Valentine’s Day. Despite inheriting seizures from his dad, Baby Valentine is too busy being the happiest pup to notice! Baby Valentine needs to take his meds every day (one of them every eight hours—yes, he has a schedule!), but don’t worry—they're very inexpensive. He’s used to taking them without fuss and goes right back to playing with every toy he can find and running around with his foster sister, trying to show her that he’s just as big and brave as she is! He needs a special human who can keep up with his meds routine. Baby Valentine is a ball of energy who loves everyone and everything! Now, he’s looking for his forever home. Baby Valentine gets along great with other dogs, though he hasn't been tested with cats yet. He’s doing really well with leash training and is already pee pad trained. Plus, he’s getting the hang of using the bathroom outside. At only about 10 lbs, he’s a small pup who won’t grow much bigger. Baby Valentine loves car rides and enjoys going everywhere with his foster mom. If you’re looking for a buddy who will shower you with love every time he sees you, whether it’s been a minute or 5 hours, Baby Valentine is the one! Interested in adopting Valentine? Story
Meet Bourbon! He’s a shih tzu mix (mom is a shih tzu, dad is a schnauzer) who was surrendered from a backyard breeder due to seizures. He takes inexpensive medication four times a day, but he’s not happy about it, so his foster mom continuously comes up with new ways to get him to take it. He’s doing great in his foster home with other small dogs. He’s a 6 pound ball of energy who loves to play, but he will also snuggle up on his foster mom’s lap. He loves toys!! He’s only had one seizure in the 6 weeks we’ve had him, because his meds needed adjusting. He hasn’t had any issues since. Interested in adopting Bourbon? Please visit www.huskyhouse.org today to fill out an application. November 4, 2024, 8:29 pm

Story
Meet Lizard who came to NorthStar along with 6 siblings when his former owners became homeless. All the others have since been adopted but poor Lizard still waits for his forever home. Lizard is a Shih Tzu mix, approximately 1 year old, and weighing just 11 pounds. Lizard does have some “quirks” we think you should know about. He has a very mild case of cherry eye. The vet has checked him out and it does not affect his vision or his tear ducts and is not bothersome at all to him. In fact, his eyesight is perfect! We believe that Lizard’s former owners had their dogs using wee wee pads and they probably had accidents with that many dogs in the house. When he came to NJ, Lizard was very skeptical about grass! But through time and a big doggie sister, he learned to accept and even like it and finally is housebroken for the most part. He sometimes has an accident in the house so it’s best to keep a weewee pad out. Recently he started going potty in his bed and in his crate when it contained blankets. If we remove the bedding from the crate & leave out a wee wee pad, he does better. Occasionally we put him in diapers - The goal is to make him dislike wearing them so much that he only goes outside. So far so good as no accidents in 2 weeks! Lizard would do best in a home without children or possibly children over 10 years old as he has been fearful of sudden movements and has shown he is willing to go after a child but not an adult. He currently has a human sibling who he has grown to love and not want to attack at any movement made. Ideally, Lizard would be best in a home without kids.   Though out in public Lizard may seem fearful of other dogs, he is just fine living with them – check out the photos of Lizard with other dogs and with cats, too. He can get jealous but easily overcomes that in less than 48 hours! We feel that Lizard would also be happy in a home where he was an “only dog”. When Lizard was in a foster home in Texas, he was afraid of larger cats. However, he is good with and enjoys the company of smaller cats as you can see in his photos. He will actually groom them and sleep with them. As Lizard is only a year old, there is some puppy energy but he does tire quickly so it’s short lived. He is a Netflix and chill type of dude! And above all he is very cuddly and will fall asleep in your arms like a baby if given the opportunity! Lizard has been neutered, microchipped and brought up to date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this boy is $425. If you are interested in meeting Lizard please consider submitting an adoption application and be sure to mention his name - HC Lizard TX!!!!November 10, 2024, 3:07 pm

Story
Meet Rocco, a 4 1/2-year-old Parson Terrier and Shih Tzu mix! He has reached his mature weight of 10 pounds, and due his petite size, children in the home should be older than ten years or have experience handling small dogs. He wears a long coat of brown and white. His playful nature is infectious, lighting up any room with his energy. Despite his zest for play, Rocco also has a mellow side, enjoying quiet cuddles and showing his affectionate, loyal nature. He's smart and independent, often amusing himself with toys. Rocco can be a bit shy at first, but once he warms up, he's your best friend for life. Rocco was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. His blend of playfulness, intelligence, and loyalty makes Rocco an ideal companion. His unique mix of breeds contributes to his friendly and cuddly demeanor. Adopt Rocco and let his light shine in your life! (ME, 10/18/24) **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. ** Adoption fee: $395 covers quarantine, shots, worming, medical records, spaying/neutering, microchip, and an Alabama State Health Certificate. Transport, if needed, is $160. We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip. We make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs. Adoption fees for Hope dogs and those who have been at rescue for prolonged amounts of time are reduced to $150 plus a $100 transport fee, as notated in their listings.November 3, 2024, 3:08 pm

Story
Meet Gizmo Giblet! 6 years old and 14lbs. This adorable pup prefers to be the only child so a home with human kids will not be considered for his adoption. Gizmo is the dog for you if you’re looking for a boy that wants to be beside you, no matter what! You understand that he communicates by growling along with nasty comments, and you don’t mind that he will bark and scratch at doors to get your attention when you leave him. He will also help keep friends and family away by barking, growling and snapping at them when they get close to you. He is a happy and playful boy that loves squeak toys and will insist on sleeping beside you and may pee in your bed Interested in becoming a forever home for Gizmo Giblets? Fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we don't go any further without an application. Find more adoptable pets, news and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws . We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them and you. Please do not submit an application if you are not serious about adopting Gizmo Giblets. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Gizmo Giblets the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process. Our adoption fee is $525. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!
