Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Piper, a sweet and playful Standard Poodle X born around April 12, 2023. At 56 lbs, she’s the perfect size—just the right balance of energy and affection. Piper is a bit shy at first but once she warms up, she’ll show you just how loving and fun she is! She gets her confidence from other dogs, so she’d thrive in a home with a friendly canine companion. When we first brought her in, Piper wouldn’t come near us until she met our dog—after that, she became a confident little gal who loves following her fur sibling around. Piper loves walking, she literally bounces around the whole walk like a little tigger, so a daily walk would not only do good for her (and you!), it makes her so happy. But otherwise, she is pretty low energy, happy to chill and sleep around the house most of the day, leaving you to work. Housetrained and crate trained, Piper is great with kids, cats, and other dogs, though she’d do best in a home with slightly older children, as her gentle nature might not mesh well with toddlers. She’s quiet, well-trained, and super sweet—if you're looking for a low-maintenance dog that isn’t glued to your side, Piper might just be the perfect fit for you. She does have a skin condition called Sebaceous adenitis (SA), which is an immune-mediated issue affecting the oil glands in her skin. While it doesn’t cause her much trouble day-to-day, it does mean that she needs regular baths to keep her skin and coat in good shape. This is mostly an issue if you need a hypo allergenic dog, as was the reason she was surrendered. She’s still as lovable and adorable as ever, though, so she is a sweet, easy-going companion with a bit of extra grooming needs. So, if you already have another dog and are looking to add a sweet, well-mannered little sister to your family, Piper might just be your perfect match.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application.  Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet!  A home visit is required prior to adoption.  Thank you for choosing to adopt! Breed and temperament determination:  Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue attempts to determine breed and temperament using a combination of looks, information provided to us at intake, and our experience with the animal while in our Rescue.  We do not guarantee this determination. Story
“TUCKER” IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Tucker’s adoption had been placed on hold 4 months ago when we were outside watching Tucker and the other Poodles run, jump and play. Suddenly we heard Tucker give out a loud “YIP!!” and clearly saw him limping. The other Poodles wouldn’t tell us what happened. But some squirrels were chattering about how Tucker was chasing them, and he took a quick turn to the right. Not sure if the squirrels were telling us the truth, so we quickly got Tucker into our Vet where X-rays were taken. We then learned that he had torn (ruptured) his right rear leg “Cruciate Ligament”. Humans have a similar experience, but it’s called a torn “ACL”. Maybe the squirrels were correct? Well, a Specialist was called in and a surgery was done to fix his torn ACL and meniscus. This surgery is very expensive (thousands), but Tucker was in pain, and he needed our help. And for those of you who asked or questioned our decision: We will not euthanize any healthy Poodle when a highly successful surgery is available! After the surgery, Tucker had his own living space in our entry way to limit his access to steps and activity. He had to remain confined and quiet. Sadly, he really missed going for walks, playing outside and going to the grandchildren’s baseball games. BUT NOW WE CELEBRATE that Tucker’s last x-ray on Wednesday, November 27th showed he had completely recovered from his surgery with no problems!! He now is completely able to use all 4 of his legs and greatly enjoys going for his daily 2-mile walk with Mike and the other Standard Poodles. He also continues to love greeting people who come to visit. He is completely housetrained and has full access to our entire home all day, at night and when we are gone. Such a good boy! TUCKER’S INFORMATION: He is a beutiful creamy white AKC Standard Poodle who was born June 23, 2015. He weighs a healthy 71 pounds and measures 25 inches from the floor to his withers. Eight months ago, this pretty boy came to us from a Minnesota breeder who was retiring. Special thank you to this breeder as she was willing to wait until the recent tax season ended (April) so we could start accepting some of her adult Poodles. She also wanted the best homes for her Poodles as they enter their “retirement” years. Tucker was scared out of his mind the first few days with us. But he quickly learned all about being a family dog. He follows us around our home while being a part of our family, knows how to come when called, will sit upon command and is always ready for hugs and attention. We took him to various public events, including several softball games that our grandchildren were playing in. While there, he had a good time enjoying the noise, commotion, and people all around him. He also received and enjoyed a lot of love, attention and hugs from many of the children at the games. Tucker is a quiet, soft, gentle, easy going big boy, a real cream puff. Going for his morning walk with Mike when he listens to the birds sing, watching the squirrels running around and meeting people is on the TOP of his list of fun things he loves to do. I would also like to stress that he is a very smart boy and has quickly figured out what to do and when. Example, rattle the Cheerios bag and he knows it’s time for breakfast as Mike sneaks Tucker a few Cheerios from the bag. Did I tell you that he is such a very smart and a very good boy?! While Tucker has been around other dogs all his life, he completely ignores small dogs but is just fine with other easy-going large dogs, like our Standard Poodle Lola. Yet, Tucker would be the perfect boy all by himself as he considers himself a member of a family and NOT a dog. *A SECURLY FENCED YARD will be recommended as he has been a kennel dog and not trained to relieve himself on a leash. *You must be physically able to handle a large Standard Poodle. *Preference will be given to a quiet family with past Standard Poodle experience. *Large, easy going dogs are fine. BUT PLEASE: *NO puppies or cats. *NO aggressive or assertive dogs (they scare him and me). *NO young children. *Like most all rescue groups, we do NOT adopt our Poodles to homes more than 1 day’s drive (round trip) from our location here in central Minnesota. Yes. This is a very rare opportunity for the right family as we all know that a good Standard Poodle is hard to find. With the introduction of Doodles, sadly the Standard Poodles are becoming harder to find. Why Doodle when you can Poodle? He has been neutered, and at his dental appointment, he had many of his rotting teeth removed. Our Vet also removed a few small non-cancerous cysts from Tuckers back and side. Ouch. It was a difficult and long surgery, but he did just fine and now he is feeling a LOT better. He is eating a hard kibble, so there is no need for soften or canned dog food. Yes, all his Vet work was very expensive. But Tucker is such an amazing loving, smart and good boy that we want the best for him. Everyone loves him, including the staff at our Vet’s office as they all wanted to take him home! He has been Vet checked healthy, is up to date on vaccinations, worming, heartworm/lymes/Ehrlich/ Anaplasmosis (4DX) tested negative, placed on a heartworm preventative, and Home Again microchipped. As with all the other Standard Poodles we have adopted, Tucker’s adoption fee is 1 million, trillion, zillion dollars. However, for the right family his adoption fee is $450.00 which includes $31.00 for our 7.375% Minnesota state sales tax and helps pay for just some of his extensive vet work. Also included is his leash, collar, a bag of quality dog food, a 10-gallon dog food container, treats, a cute toy box, along with a new blanket, a dog bed and lots of good information to help your Poodle adoption move forward on the right paw! Again, Tucker is a very nice Standard Poodle boy who wants and truly deserves a loving home for his “retirement”. Story
Say hello to “VINNY”, a neutered, parti Standard Poodle who comes to us from a good family that would like a loving home where Vinny would receive more time and attention than what they could give him. This gentle, loving, easy going, quiet, cream puff Poodle boy is a healthy 73 pounds, stands at 26″ tall and just turned 8 years old (09/13/2016). Vinny is also very much a “Velcro” Poodle who REALLY loves people, especially MEN. He will follow us around the house, loves to go for our 2-mile walks and will sit nicely in the car while going for a ride . If your hand is by your side or you are sitting down, he will muzzle your hand so you will pet him as he thrives for your attention. So, did I tell you that he craves and wants attention from people? Do you see how he looks at Mike in the picture? He also enjoys meeting new people, will play fetch with the ball (see video), likes his food and treats and is very smart. While Vinny is perfectly fine with all our other Poodles, he is NOT looking for another dog friend as he considers himself a family member. Vinny will be a perfect companion for someone who is retired or is home most of the time. This gentle boy is also a perfect gentleman in our home (housetrained), so when we are home, he has free access to our entire house day and night. However, when we are gone, he is kenneled. As with most Standard Poodles who have lots of heavy ear hair, Vinny was treated for an infection in his left ear. After our Vet sent a swab sample of the infection to “Zoetis Reference Laboratories”, we learned that Vinny had 3 organisms: Proteus Mirabillis, Pseudomanas Aeruginosa and Staphyloccus Pseudintermediue. Try saying those words 3 times! Vinny’s ear was treated with a specific ear drop to cure that ear infection and help heal his ruptured ear drum. We also shaved his ear hair short to allow oxygen into his ear cannel which will help prevent ear infections (make sense?). And we found that research shows that dog food with poultry is a problem for dogs that have chronic ear infections. So, Vinny is on a quality Salmon with Rice dog kibble. Now Vinny’s ears have been rechecked, and his ear infection IS GONE, and his ear drum has healed! He is feeling and doing just great! So, Vinny has been Vet checked healthy, his vaccinations and worming are up to date. His beautiful teeth have been cleaned, he has been Home Again microchipped and registered. Yes. This is a very rare opportunity for the right family as we all know that a good Standard Poodle is hard to find. With the introduction of Doodles, sadly the Standard Poodles are becoming harder to find. Why Doodle when you can Poodle? *A SECURLY FENCED YARD is recommended. *You must be physically able to handle a Standard Poodle. *Preference will be given to a quiet family with a male who likes Poodles and has past Standard Poodle experience. Also included is his leash, collar, a bag of quality (poultry free) dog food, a 10-gallon dog food container, treats, dog chew toys in a cute toy box, his special blanket, and a soft cozy dog bed along with lots of good information to help your Poodle adoption move forward on the right paw! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.      Hello, wonderful souls! I'm Peter, your soon-to-be charming companion! I'm a very handsome Miniature Poodle, and I'm discovering the joys of comfort and love in my foster home. Each day brings me more confidence, and I'm eager to share my overflowing love with a special someone—maybe that's you! I am a bit timid, sudden movements, commotion, and loud noises still make me a bit uneasy. However, I'm getting better at facing these fears every day. When foster mom is still, I'm all about those loving pets and cuddles. But if she's on the move, I keep my distance—I even bolt if she walks toward me. I know commands like "outside" and "stop," and leash and potty training are still on my to-learn list. I'm 95% potty trained, especially with a consistent routine. A fenced yard is a must for my adventurous spirit. I'd love to have a canine companion to show me the ropes, help me 'dog' properly, and boost my confidence. We're working on some manners, and my foster pals are excellent teachers. Walking on a leash needs some practice, and a confident pal by my side would be perfect. Despite being easily startled and a bit hand-shy, I've found joy in playing with toys, furry friends, and even those mysterious creatures called cats. I'm all about giving kisses, nibbling fingers, and enjoying ear scratches. Zoomies are my specialty, especially in the fenced yard or on the stairs. I've got some manners to polish up, like waiting for my turn and distinguishing between toys and household items – hee hee! I really am a sweet boy who is simply looking for the patience, unconditional love, and security that I SO richly deserve from my own fur-ever family! I really hope that YOU will be my new family because my heart is overflowing with love that I want to share with someone very special! Love, Peter *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi there! I'm Jockey, a sweet and small Mini Poodle weighing in at just 5 pounds. I'm 4 years old and ready to find my forever home. When I first arrived, I was pretty scared, but I've been working hard to overcome my fears and now my true personality is starting to shine through. I've really made a lot of progress and am very comfortable in my foster home. I used to hide when someone tried to pick me up, but now that I have gotten to know my foster mom, I lay down calmly  ready for some love. I enjoy spending time in the yard, especially when the neighbors walk by with their dogs. I love sniffing and checking out all the pups and people from the safety of my fence. To help me live my best life, I do need a canine companion in my new home. I have a few adorable quirks that will make you smile. I do a little dance when it's mealtime, and if you're not paying attention to me during treat time, I'll pat your leg to make sure you see me. I'm quite the foodie and love treats and chew bones. Just a heads-up, I prefer to keep my chewies to myself! I am a foodie at heart - foster mom says I can be bribed with a treat anytime, anyplace - hee hee! Toys are also my favorite - I have become a little toy hoarder and my people find my little stashes all over the house. I'm just saving them to play with later! I also love playing with the other dogs in my foster home - we LOVE playing zoomies and take turns chasing each other.  I'm still working on overcoming some fears, like loud noises, which can be a bit scary for me. But with patience and kindness, I'm getting better every day. I'm almost potty trained as long as I'm on a good schedule, and I'm also crate trained. We're working on leash training, but I do get alarmed so a fenced yard is required. I can get a bit vocal when you leave the house, but that's just because I love being around my people. It would be best if I didn't have shared walls.  If you're looking for a fantastic companion who will dance into your heart, look no further! With a little patience and kindness, I'll be your loyal and loving friend. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Meet Linda! Linda isn’t just any poodle—she’s a curly-coated firecracker with a personality as big as her energy levels. This playful little psycho is always ready to turn the world into her personal playground. Toys are her love language, and she takes them very seriously. Whether it’s squeaky toys, tug ropes, or a random sock she’s decided is now hers, Linda plays like her life depends on it. Other dogs? She adores them—though they may need to keep up or get out of the way. People? Linda considers them her fan club and is always ready to put on a show. And snuggles? Oh, she loves snuggling—but only on her terms. Linda’s as much of an independent queen as she is a cuddle bug. If she’s ready to play and you’re not, don’t worry; she’ll entertain herself just fine. But when she’s in the mood for affection, she’ll plop herself right in your lap and melt your heart with her soulful eyes. Linda’s got the perfect balance of “I need you!” and “I got this!”—which is just as endearing as it is chaotic. Now, let’s talk about the elephant (or should we say poodle) in the room: Linda’s low anal tone. Yep, it’s a thing. Sometimes, a little poo just…makes a surprise appearance. Linda, of course, is completely unbothered by this. She’s too busy living her best life to let a little accidental drop stop her. In fact, her carefree attitude about it is downright inspiring. Linda isn’t here to dwell on the small stuff; she’s here to play, love, and thrive. And trust us, the occasional “gift” is nothing compared to the joy she’ll bring to your life. Linda’s perfect family is one who can match her enthusiasm, laugh through the chaos, and appreciate her wild, wonderful, and slightly messy spirit. Whether she’s zooming through the yard, orchestrating a game of tug, or snuggling up after a long day of play, Linda will make sure your life is filled with laughter, love, and maybe a little extra cleaning. But hey, with Linda around, it’s worth it. Because she’s not just a dog—she’s a whole experience. Are you ready for her? Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. Visit this link  www.underdogrescuemn.com/donate   to donate.  (Please note: A Paypal account is not necessary to use Paypal.
