Story
·Intake Reason: Stray·Weight: 65 lbs Known with: ·Cats: Unknown ·Dogs: Can be selective; Likely best with females ·Kids: Unknown ·Personality: IntelligentHi there, my name is Smith; I came into WCHS as a stray, so Smith may be an alias. I have an adventurous spirit and would love to accompany you on long hikes and explore; I happen to be the owner of a spectacular schnoz. I am an active boy who will need plenty of exercise, both physical and mental. I am a tad reactive when I am on a leash or otherwise contained and I see another dog because I feel vulnerable. When I go on walks with volunteers, I have been practicing staying calm and focusing on my person rather than any passing dog. I try and follow the cues I am given like ‘sit' or play the find-it game and get caught up in searching for tasty morsels tossed onto the ground. I do much better when I am off-leash and have been playing with other pooches in some playgroups at the shelter. It is much better for me to have slow and proper introductions to other dogs so I do not think I would like the chaos of a dog park. The folks at WCHS could give you some great tips about the type of polite dog that could be my friend and how to introduce us. I thoroughly enjoy playing with toys and running around with humans. I invented a game called chase-me-chase-me where I run after a toy you toss and then we both run around and chase and jump and play. I am polite with people and allow you to take the toy back and toss it again to continue the game; it is a hoot. I am an affectionate boy and really enjoy snuggles, soft pats and tender scratches; spending time with my peeps is one of my favorite activities. I think I am quite handsome and promise to be a loyal companion forever. I would love to train with you using patient and positive techniques to learn obedience and exquisite manners so I am welcome anywhere we go; it would be great to be your fun-loving sidekick. I hope you stop by to meet me in person; we can get to know each other is a room or play in the courtyard and have a wonderful time together.#2

Story
·Intake Reason: Surrendered owner passed away·Weight: 65 lbs.Known with:·Cats: lived with a 15 yr old neutered male·Dogs: Previously lived with 5 yr old neutered male APBTx and plays in WCHS playgroups well·Kids: Unknown·Personality: AffectionateGreetings, my name is Cocoa and I am a friend to all. I had a lovely life with a person for a couple of years where I lived with my good buddy, Ranger, and even a senior kitty-cat. Unfortunately, my person passed away so the whole gang came to WCHS to search for a new home. I used to have a great time playing with Ranger but he recently found his new forever home; I adore him so I am very happy for him. You might notice from my photo that I have something called a cherry-eye and I have been told that the nice folks at the shelter have plans to take care of it; it will be great to have my vision improve. My only complaint since coming to WCHS is they wanted me to get on a scale; as an enchanting and sophisticated young lady, getting weighed is not my favorite activity. I am an active gals and my eye issue does not slow me down a bit; I still enjoy a romp with other pups in the playgroups. I also love to go on walks and explore the fabulous world around us. I do need a little practice with polite leash walking because I get so happy and excited that I pull a bit. When it comes to manners, I was so polite and respectful of my person's things that I was allowed to roam freely about the house when I was alone. Although I had a comfy pet bed in my previous home, I had the opportunity to sleep with my human in their bed and that was grand. I am an affectionate lovebug so cuddling all night long was quite a treat. In my previous home I knew to go to the door and whine a bit to ask to go outside. When I get to my new home, we will need to figure out each other's signals and routines; until then I will need plenty of opportunities to go outside to use the facilities. I have been described as friendly, playful, quiet and gentle; I am a big fan of car rides and enjoy a rousing game of fetch. I am a wiggle-butt with loads of love to give and I promise to be loyal to you forever. Stop by and ask to meet Cocoa, I think we will have a magnificent life together.#1

**Ziba is available for meet and greets by appointment only! Please call WCHS to set up an appointment so our dog trainer can introduce her to you and demonstrate the sign language she is learning.**· Intake Reason: surrendered, owner was unable to care forKnown with:· Cats: lived with 2 cats, and liked to play with them· Dogs: went to dog parks previously, does okay in WCHS playgroups· Kids: exposed to various ages· Personality: likes to jump up and tends to pull on leash, likes tennis balls and playing fetchGreetings, my name is Ziba and I am 40-pounds of special. My name means ‘beautiful' and I think that is very fitting because I am enchanting. My world is very quiet because I am deaf. Since I cannot hear commands, people have been using hand signals to communicate with me; I know the signal for ‘sit' and ‘good girl'. Because I could not hear you calling after me, I will be counting on you to keep me safe and out of trouble. I know that some folks who have a deaf pooch in the family use a vibration collar (no shock, please) to let the dog know you want their attention. I also appreciate it when humans do not sneak up on me or surprise me. In my previous home I had the luxury of roaming about freely when I was alone and also got to share my person's bed at night; that was fabulous. When I needed to go outside, I would sit by the door. When I first come into my new home it would be wise to watch me carefully and also give me plenty of opportunities to get outside to use the facilities. I must confess I am still working on becoming 100% when it comes to house-training. Lots of yummy treats and praise should help me develop that skill. I am a tolerant gal but I have a tendency to get overstimulated, so it would be great if we could work on some settle exercises. I am a smart lass and think it is important to keep my brain busy and engaged so I have been happy with all the enrichment I get at the shelter. I do enjoy romping with other dogs and am sort of a rough player but prefer not to share my toys with them; a girl has got to draw the line somewhere. I enjoy car rides and would love to be your sidekick as we go on many adventures together. I am friendly and outgoing but do prefer a slow and polite introduction to folks I do not know. Give me a few minutes and a couple tasty tidbits and soon we will be BFFs. I hope you stop by to meet me in person; I think it is lovely to increase my circle of friends and we could have a magnificent life together.#2

Story
Gemma is 3-4 years old, and 35 pounds. She’s the best girl ever, extremely good with other dogs/cats. She still is full of puppy energy if you can get her going, but doesn’t mind playing the role of couch potato and cuddle bug as well. She is vocal in letting you know when she needs to go out. Gemma can be left alone for 4-8 hours. She’s very spunky with a playful, loving personality and I would love her to go to a wonderful home.

Clyde is around 4 years old and had a tough start to the world. He went from living on a tiny outdoor porch to becoming an inside dog just to be let down and underfed. Clyde is very smart. He knows to sit and give his paw and we are working on "lay down. Because of his history, size, and excitement, he does jump so I would suggest older kiddos or a kid-free family. Although, he did just fine meeting my 4-year-olds on a leash. With a little training, he is going to walk like a dream on a leash. He has not had a single accident since arriving at his foster home. Clyde does seem to have a prey drive for wanting to chase birds. I am unsure how he does with cats & dogs. His previous family said he did great. We have been working on letting him decompress before meeting my other animals.

Story
Hi I'm Cheerio! I have been in rescue for a long time and I don't understand why. I'm the happiest and sweetest girl just looking for an active forever home. I love going for walks and hikes! I am a MAJOR water dog and love to lounge in the kiddie pool! I'm potty trained and crate trained and my foster mom says I'm super smart and food motivated so I would do well learning new commands and even tricks! I get along with other dogs of all sizes and love to play chase. I even get along with humans of all sizes but I might get a little too excited for the extra small ones. I'm working on learning not to jump but sometimes I can't help myself because I'm so happy! I just need regular exercise and mental stimulation to get my energy out and then I can settle down inside. Cheerio is a 3 year old Lab/Pit mix and weighs about 50lbs. She is available for adoption with Saving Grace Dog Rescue of San Antonio. The adoption fee is $195.00 local or $395.00 out of state with transport. An adoption application, home visit and adoption contract are all required. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations appropriate for their age, microchipped, and wormed for internal and external parasites. If you would like more information, please email us at sgdrsa@outlook.com. Please note that visual breed identification in rescue dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only GUESSING at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. You can complete an adoption application for Cheerio at the following link: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/SGDR/Dog

We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. Story
Meet Theodore Winston, "Theo" for short who came to Canine Cupids from Chicago where he was found wandering the streets. Theo was emaciated, scared and spent two months in the shelter where he became a volunteer favorite because of his sweet nature and handsome looks. Theo loves to play with tennis balls and enjoys the company of other dogs. He was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia and is on weekly injections to help ease the pain. Theo needs to take it easy when he is playing, and walks should be not very long. Theo is a lover of sunbathing on his foster mom's patio. With his strong wiggly tail, he would not be suitable in a home with small children. If you are interested in Theo please fill out an application today!

· Intake Reason: surrendered, not getting along with other dogKnown with:· Cats: unknown· Dogs: lived with 2 yr old Husky and 2 yr old Rottweiler, both neutered males. Only dog to have issue with in home is Husky. Has attended dog park and doggy day care.· Kids: exposed to various ages and did well.· Personality: Very playful and loves tennis balls and fetch. Tends to pull on the leash a bit and is very personable. Knows: sitHello, my name is Rufus and I am a debonair gentleman who is currently in the market for a new home. I lived with a family almost my whole life and things were lovely. I do well with most other dogs and had fun playing at the dog park and with the neighborhood dogs and also got to romp at doggy daycare. When a Rottweiler and a Husky came to live with me, the Rottie was a compatible roommate but the Husky was a bit high-strung for my taste. To keep peace in the home, my people decided that I should come to WCHS to find a new family. I am a sweet and charming lad with loads of love to give so I am confident that I will find a loving home with a consistent leader. Although I am comfortable in a crate, in my previous home I was so respectful of my human's things I was able to roam around freely when I was alone. At night I had the luxury of sleeping in my person's bed and that was lovely; we could snuggle all night long. I had learned to sit by the door and whine to ask to go outside so I could potty. When I get into my new home it would be wise to give me plenty of opportunities to use the outdoor facilities until we learn each other's signals and routines. I am an active boy (some even say hyper) who thrives on physical and mental exercise. I also have a quiet and affectionate side; do you think 70 pounds is too big to hang out on your lap? I am a smart lad and already know the cues for ‘sit' and ‘down'; maybe we could take some classes together so I could learn more human words. I like to keep my brain busy so I like learning and playing challenging games like ‘find-it' or nose work. Foraging mats and brain teaser toys that utilize my nose are tons of fun. I certainly hope you stop by so we can meet in person and you will agree that I am delightful and endearing.#1
