Story
I’m Tuxedo, a 2- to 3-year old cattle dog mix with the most gorgeous eyes! I’m a love bug who likes to lean into my people with all 40 pounds of me, or climb into a lap when one’s available.I came to the Humane Society as a stray. I’m still new to the shelter and haven’t made new dog friends yet, but I joined the other HSYC dogs for a long trek along the Riverwalk recently. I’m a great leash-walker and car rider!I’m up to date on vaccines and preventions, neutered and microchipped. If you wish to meet me, please call the Humane Society of York County at (803)-802-0902 to schedule an appointment. Please refer to our website for adoption requirements: https://humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org/adopt/adoption-process.htmlThank you for your support.

Story
My name is Choji :) I am four years and 3 months old. My fur mom adopted me directly from my real mom's owner when I was three months old. I am house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. I do pull on the leash a little, because I get really excited about where I'm headed. I know sit, stay, paw, spin, up, and down. I love dogs. I get along with kids. I have never been near cats. I LOVE cuddles, and kisses, and FOOD. Oh, I really love food. Blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, apples, and peanut butter are all my favorites...especially peanut butter! Hiking is my favorite activity outside of home. My last vet visit was on 4/09/2024. The adoption fee will cover that visit, and a six-month supply of my Simparica TRIO. I am a good boy! My mom is only doing this because she knows I deserve more time and attention than what she can provide. After dad left, she could barely hang on to herself, so.... I can't wait to meet my new hoomans soon! :)

Story
Meet sweet Poppy! Poppy was found in a field with her siblings, on the verge of dying. Dehydrated, emaciated, full of parasites. Thankfully a good Samaritan got them all rounded up and called us. All were a bit shy at first but have come out of their shell and are nothing short of adorable. Cattle dog/shep mix, going to be medium size dogs we think. Born in April of this year and currently around 15 pounds. RECOMMENDATIONS & PROCEDURES Please note, the following are recommendations for puppies and different breeds of dogs. We will evaluate each application on an individual basis to see what is best for the dog/puppy and the potential adopter. Puppies are very fragile and not toys. We recommend children be at least six years old to be considered to adopt a puppy. Small breed dogs ( such as chihuahuas, yorkies, shih tzus , etc) we recommend children be at least eight years old. Herding, working breeds we recommend children to be at least 12 years old. Again these are recommendations. Adoption Procedures: We will travel up to two hours ( one way) to do physical home visits and we do not do virtual home visits. ( we are in Cleveland County NC) Most of our dogs come from bad situations and we want to know where their forever home is going to be. While we do not require fencing on all dogs, certain dogs that need a fenced in yard, will not be adopted unless potential adopter has one. We also adopt some dogs to people who live in apartments ( as long as the landlord approves) but not all dogs. We do not adopt to anyone under 21 years of age. We also do not feel college students are the best fit for most of our dogs. Most of our dogs again, come from bad situations and need lots of attention. Most college students have financial responsibilities and we feel need to be focused on school. Our goal is to match the dog with a family that fits the dog’s needs. We are solely focused on what is best for each dog in our rescue. These dogs have had enough moving around, dumped out like trash, and we want to ensure they find their forever home. We do require you sign a contract and if at any time you cannot continue to provide for the dog, the dog comes back to the rescue. Your first step to adoption is filling our our on line application. You will then get an automated email stating we got your application Next our adoption coordinator will be in touch either by phone or email If your references check out, a home visit will be scheduled. After the home visit is done, a meet and greet with the dog you are interested in and/or any other available dogs we have will be scheduled If the dog and you are a match, contract will be signed and you may take your new family member home. Story
Blue Tellico is a lively 15-month-old Blue Heeler boy that is smart and everything you expect in a Blue Heeler/Cattle Dog. Trained by professionals, Blue Tellico showcases impressive agility and quickness with a strong passion to spend lots of time outdoors looking for adventures and romping in the local creek and looking for squirrels to chase. Despite his energetic nature, Tellico is incredibly affectionate and adores cuddle sessions. The ideal home is a setting with space to run and explore in the woods, a creek or water source nearby for him to play in, too.  BlueTellico gets along well with other animals but isn't suited for households with young children because he tries to herd them and the current children are scared of him and his desire to round them up.  He would truly be good on a horse farm or someplace that caters to his outdoor need. We do encourage anyone interested, to be sure you understand the Blue Heeler breed and are willing to be his leader.  Contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.May 1, 2024, 5:15 pm

Story
Ethel is the name given to this pretty girl and honestly it is NOT a pretty enough name for this Cattle Dog girl.  Look at this black beauty with a bob tail and at just a year old, she weighs a little over 20 pounds and is fully grown.   She is adorable and needs a great home that will allow her to play and learn and be a wonderful hiking and family companion.  Ethel is said to be mostly housebroken but a little reinforcing and scheduling will help make that 100%.  What Ethel needs is a foster home and soon a real family or person will come along.  She is very special!!!  ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.May 1, 2024, 5:15 pm

Story
What can we say about Neena?  Well, we can tell you a lot! Neena was originally surrendered to an animal shelter at 3 months of age.  At 6 months, she was finally adopted, but sadly, she was returned 3 months later when her adoptive family had some medical issues. They realized that they were not able to give Neena the full attention and care she needed. During her three months in a home, Neena was DNA tested. The results were that she is 31.3 % Australian Cattle Dog, 22% German Shepherd Dog, and 21% Boxer. The rest is unknown. We were told that Neena enjoys camping, walking, meeting other dogs and getting a ton of belly rubs.  We are happy that we have the opportunity to help Neena find another family that will help her continue to grow, throw her a frisbee or ball - which are her favorite activities in the world – and give her all the attention and exercise she needs.  If you are interested in adopting Neena, please submit an inquiry directly with Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. ***Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to meet/pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt.***May 1, 2024, 6:22 pm
