Story
Meet Genie Genie is a 9-year-old, 60 lb Heeler mix looking for a special home that appreciates smart, quirky, loyal dogs. This girl is full of personality and incredibly intelligent — she knows an impressive number of commands including sit, stay, lay down, shake, roll over, and more. She loves engaging with her person and would make an amazing companion for someone who enjoys a clever, interactive dog. Genie loves long walks, outdoor adventures, rolling in the grass, squeaky toys, sticks, and cozy snuggles. She’s also a big fan of treats and “cheese runs” to Buc-ee’s. Despite her active side, she’s a total cuddle bug who always wants to be close to her person. She would thrive in an adult-only home as the only dog, though she may coexist with a calm cat. She is not a fit for homes with children or small animals. Genie can be sensitive and likes her boundaries respected, so she needs a patient, confident adopter who understands independent dogs and will let her settle in at her own pace. In return, she forms a deep bond and is incredibly loyal. Why you’ll love Genie:• Very smart and highly trained• Potty trained and crate trained• Walks well on leash• Affectionate and loves to snuggle• Great hiking and adventure buddy• Full of funny quirks and personality Genie is hoping to find the person who sees how special she is — and when she bonds with you, she’ll be an incredibly devoted best friend. Coming soon! Kit Kat lived as a stray for the first 5 months of her life. Because of that, she is very undersocialized and timid, but she is a sweet pup who just needs patience and a chance to learn that people aren't so bad. She is currently working on socialization so that she can be a wonderful companion. ##2637346##

Story
Hi there! My name is Toffee, and I’m a 3-year-old, 52-lb female Australian Cattle Dog mix with a surprisingly calm and easygoing personality. While my breed mix might suggest high energy, I’m actually a laid-back girl who prefers cozy blankets, quiet time, and cuddling up with a favorite stuffed toy.I spent much of my early life on the streets, so I’m still learning that people can be kind. Because of this, I can be shy at first, but I have never shown any fear-based aggression. Once I feel safe, my sweet nature truly shines, and I form deep, loyal bonds with my people.I do very well with other dogs and coexist peacefully. I’m not especially playful, but I’m happy to share my space with canine friends—as long as they respect my naps, since being startled from deep sleep can be a little scary for me. I’ve also done well around cats. I haven’t lived with children, but I would likely do best with older kids who can move slowly and give me time to build trust.I’m crate trained and puppy-pad trained as well as non-destructive when left out, and I’m continuing to work on gaining confidence with leash walking and the outdoors. With patience, reassurance, and consistency, I continue to make progress every day.I’ve had a difficult start to life, but I am an incredibly sweet girl who deserves a loving forever home and a person willing to show me that the world isn’t such a scary place. Dogs like me often grow into the most devoted companions once we know we’re safe. ##2619943##

Story
Meet Rusty Rusty is a 2-year-old, 50 lb Cattle Dog mix with a gentle soul, a playful side, and so much potential just waiting to bloom. Rusty didn’t have the easiest start in life and can be a little shy in new situations, but underneath that cautious exterior is a sweet, silly boy who is making incredible progress every day. Watching him open up, wag his tail, play with toys, and start trusting people is something really special. He loves playing with other dogs and would especially enjoy a home with a confident dog friend to help show him the ropes. He enjoys puzzle toys, chew toys, chicken treats, and the occasional Squishmallow, and he’s discovering how fun life can be. Rusty can be timid with new people and unfamiliar environments, but he responds with avoidance rather than aggression and continues to gain confidence with patience and positive reinforcement. He has already made huge strides with leash walking, crate training, and potty training, and he’s a quick learner. He walks nicely on leash, does well with other dogs, and would likely do best with older, dog-savvy children who can go slow and give him time to warm up. An active but patient home that understands shy dogs and lets him settle in at his own pace would help him thrive. Why you’ll love Rusty:• Sweet, gentle, and quietly affectionate• Playful and loves other dogs• Medium energy and enjoys activity• Smart and eager to learn• Doing great with leash, crate, and potty training• A rewarding dog to watch blossom Rusty may start out a little reserved, but once he trusts you, you get to see the goofy, loving dog underneath — and he is absolutely worth it. Story
Millie is a sweet, smart, and bubbly girl who's ready to bring joy to her forever home. She loves walks, hikes, and proudly carrying her favorite orange rubber "wishbone" toy. Millie knows several commands -- sit, down, place, and heel -- and she'll happily show off her skills for her people. This vocal girl isn't shy about telling you when she needs to go out or when she's ready for attention. At home, she's easygoing: after 10-15 minutes of play, Millie is content to lounge and relax. She's house trained, kennel trained, and e-collar trained, making her a well-mannered companion. Millie thrives as the only pet and would do best in a home without young children. She enjoys snuggling when she's in the mood and will reward her people with love, laughter, and loyalty. If you feel your home might be the right place for such a great dog - the place to start is with the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you promptly to tell you more and to arrange a time to meet! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter. Millie participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster, not by DFWRM.April 22, 2026, 1:21 pm
