Story
This is the best Summer San Francisco could ask for! An estimated 2-year-old Australian Shepherd mix, this sweet girl is warming up a little more each day. When first meeting Summer she can start off a little shy but once you`re in, you`re in—you get fully body leans and maybe even an attempt to crawl into your lap for cuddles. Summer is still getting used to her new digs and appreciates when the humans let her explore at her own pace and retreat back to the safety of the indoors if necessary. She shows us her thanks by asking for love and pets which is starting to create a reputation of herself around here as a volunteer favorite. Can you stand to be away from this lovebug any longer? We promise, meeting her in person would be worth it! Or, click the `How to Adopt Me` button to set up a virtual adoption appointment!

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog I:10Meet Seabreeze – a gentle, sensitive girl ready to find her footing and flourish. &#239&#184&#143 At just over a year old and 42 lbs, Seabreeze is a beautiful Australian Shepherd mix with a soft soul and a whole lot of potential. She was adopted for a short time but came back to the shelter when the match wasn’t quite right—she’s still learning to feel safe around men and young children, and would do best in a calm, experienced home that can help her build trust at her own pace. Seabreeze has a few obedience skills under her belt already, and she’s eager to learn more! With her smarts, a love for gentle encouragement, and a willingness to connect, she could really blossom with some training, structure, and maybe even a little agility work to help her gain confidence. In playgroups, Seabreeze is more of a quiet observer than a social butterfly, but she’s calm and respectful with other dogs. A confident canine sibling could be a great role model for her as she continues to adjust to the world outside the shelter. This sweet pup may be shy at first, but once she feels safe, she leans in for affection and starts to show her true, loving self. If you're patient, dog-savvy, and ready to help a young pup grow into the amazing companion she’s meant to be, Seabreeze could be the perfect match. Come meet her at Oakland Animal Services and help her catch her stride.May 13, 2025, 11:30 am

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $750 Meet Halo – Heaven-Sent With a Side of Sass  Breed: Mini Aussie Mix Age: 2–3 years old Weight: 24 lbs Status: Ridiculously lovable. Permanently ear-flopped. Entirely available. Ever wish you had a dog who could match your mood like a furry emotional support chameleon? Meet Halo—equal parts nap partner, walk buddy, and squeaky toy enthusiast. She’s the kind of dog who can go from Olympic-level fetcher to professional blanket burrito without missing a beat. Halo came to us from the shelter, and ever since, she’s been living her best in-home spa life. She sleeps in bed, sunbathes on the balcony, and enjoys a daily schedule full of walks, food, snuggles, and pretending not to understand how leashes work (seriously, she treats it like modern art—interpretive and abstract). What makes Halo special? Velcro but chill. She’ll follow you from room to room... unless she’s too comfy to move. Highly trainable. She listens, adapts quickly, and only gets tangled in the leash sometimes. Emotionally intelligent. She picks up on your energy and matches it—zoomies or zzz’s. Ridiculously well-behaved. No chewing, no digging, no barking marathons. Expressive ears. They flop. Always. We don’t know why. We just know it’s adorable. A Day in the Life of Halo: 8:30 AM: Wakes up in bed looking better than you do. 9:00 AM: Walkies and double potty performance. 9:30–12:30 PM: Balcony sunbathing or indoor lounging (her version of remote work). 12:30 PM: Midday walk and a bonus round of tail wags. 5:30–7:30 PM: Evening walk + gourmet kibble. 9:00 PM: Cuddles, Netflix, and a gentle descent to the foot of the bed where she sleeps like a small, satisfied loaf. Things Halo doesn't do: Bark at the wind Destroy your furniture Wake you up at 4 AM Demand constant attention Apply for leadership of the household Ideal Home: Halo is flexible. She’s doing great with a solo young adult, but would also thrive with a couple or family. She’s best for someone who wants a well-balanced, affectionate, slightly quirky companion who values quiet loyalty over chaos. Halo is curious and polite when she sees dogs on leash—always more sniff than sass. She has been with dogs in the shelter system and at orientation in our rescue. She passed with flying colors. Favorite Fun Fact: Halo has a face that says “I’m innocent,” ears that say “I’m confused,” and a walk that says “Yes, I absolutely am zigzagging across the sidewalk on purpose.” If you’re looking for a dog who feels like the missing puzzle piece in your life (but way cuter), Halo might just be your perfect match. She's got heart, humor, and the kind of calm charm that sneaks up on you—and stays. Adopt Halo. She’s not just a good girl. She’s your new favorite vibe.May 14, 2025, 4:56 am

Meet Finn!   If your dream dog is smart, athletic, goofy, and loyal to the core — congratulations, you just found him! Finn is a 2 year old Mini Australian Shepherd (with a full-sized heart!) who weighs in at a perfect 35 pounds. He’s on the hunt for an active, outdoorsy, and dog-savvy home where he can put all his brains and energy to good use.   Finn’s days are filled with adventure — whether it’s trotting alongside you on the trails, playing epic games of backyard tag (figure eights are his specialty), or showing off his impressive list of tricks. He’s incredibly intelligent and loves learning, especially when treats are involved. Sit, roll over, weave through your legs? He’s got it down. With the right guidance, Finn could easily be your future agility dog, hiking buddy, or even the star of your neighborhood's next dog show. He doesn’t just want a job; he needs a job to feel happy and fulfilled.   Finn is wonderful with other dogs he knows and is happy to share his home and heart with doggy friends. Like many young herding breeds, he’s energetic and full of enthusiasm — sometimes too much for a simple stroll around the block! On leash, he can be reactive to dogs and people passing by, barking and pulling with excitement. However, he’s been working hard on his manners and will thrive with a confident, experienced person who can continue to lead him with calm guidance. If you love a good training challenge and believe in bringing out the best in your dog, Finn is ready to meet you halfway (especially if you have treats).   At home, Finn is a total sweetheart. He’s house-trained, respectful of your belongings, and happiest when he’s close to his people — sleeping at your feet, supervising your activities, or doing a quick zoomie in the yard just to celebrate life. He would love a fenced yard to burn off some energy daily and a human who shares his love of movement, learning, and fun.   Finn is not a dog for a first-time owner, but for the right person — someone who knows that a brilliant, active dog needs more than a couple of walks a day — he’s an absolute gem. If you're ready for a loyal sidekick who’ll make you laugh, keep you moving, and reward your efforts with endless love and devotion, Finn is ready to be your next great adventure.April 26, 2025, 7:00 am
