Story
I got this sweet girl when she was a puppy from Minnesota. I've had her for 5 years and she the absolute sweetest but I think she would thrive better in a home with just one other dog or by herself. She has siblings that pick on her and it's not fair. She does have some separation anxiety when going to the vet and suggested she be medicated when going. She is crate and house trained. Lilo is 5 years old and a miniature Australian shepherd. Her birthday is January 3rd, 2021. She is up to date on her vaccinations.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $650 Freckles is a 10–12 month old Aussie mix weighing about 26 lbs who came to us from the shelter after his owner passed away. Understandably, he had a hard time adjusting to shelter life, but just a few days in foster showed everyone who he really is. With some consistency, kindness, and time, Freckles quickly revealed himself to be a happy, gentle, and adaptable young dog who is ready for his next chapter.   Freckles has settled nicely into a predictable daily routine. He sleeps in a crate in his foster home’s bedroom and is perfectly content going to bed whenever the humans do. With a small treat, he goes right into his crate at night and settles immediately. In the morning, he’s up around 7 when he hears the household stirring. He heads outside for a quick bathroom break, then enjoys breakfast. One of his favorite morning activities is sitting at the front window, quietly watching the neighborhood wake up. He truly enjoys his daily walks and looks forward to them, and the rest of his day is a relaxed mix of exploring the backyard and taking long naps.   When Freckles first arrived from the shelter, he was overwhelmed and he preferred spending time outdoors. That uncertainty faded quickly. Within a day or two, he learned that he was safe and began running inside confidently without looking back. Now, he moves comfortably through the house and clearly enjoys being part of a calm, caring environment. He is a good cuddler but not demanding about it— he’s just as happy lounging on a dog bed, rolling around contentedly. At first he followed his foster closely, but as he’s settled in, he’s grown more independent and relaxed.   Freckles lives with a large, enthusiastic 70 lb Goldendoodle in his foster home. Despite the size and energy difference, he handled the introduction well, showing only a little initial hesitation. They played chase and had some fun together, though Freckles has since shown that he’s not particularly interested in ongoing play with other dogs. He would be perfectly happy as an only dog. He has also met a cat up close and, after a gentle sniff, lost interest completely.   Energy-wise, Freckles is a nice balance. He has playful moments, especially when his people come home, but that excitement is brief and he settles quickly. Most of the time, he’s more of a couch potato and enjoys lounging throughout the day. He hasn’t shown much interest in toys so far.   Freckles goes on daily walks and is still learning leash manners. He doesn’t seem to have had much prior experience, so he can weave around and occasionally walk into your legs, but he’s improving every day with consistency and practice. He is housetrained, with only a couple of accidents on his very first unsettled day in foster and none since. He is crate trained, sleeps comfortably in his crate at night, and even seems to prefer being crated in the car.   In the house, Freckles is an easy companion. He does not chew and only barks occasionally when he hears or sees people, stopping promptly with a calm, stern “no.” He handles being alone well and does not show signs of separation anxiety.   Freckles is adaptable and content, even if he needs to be home alone during the day, as long as his basic needs for routine and companionship are met.   What truly sets Freckles apart is how quietly resilient and agreeable he is. He accepts new situations with minimal fuss, doesn’t complain during handling, and responds well to gentle but clear boundaries. He’s likely to be very trainable, especially with positive reinforcement and the occasional small treat.   And finally, Freckles does have one endearing quirk: after peeing, he almost always “wipes his paws” with great enthusiasm. Since half the yard is covered in bark, this results in bark scattered across the pavers—a harmless, slightly messy habit that never fails to make his foster family laugh.   Freckles is a sweet, steady, and appreciative young dog who is ready to bring his quiet joy and gentle companionship into a forever home.January 25, 2026, 4:30 pm

Story
Pongo is a real ball of energy, with enough enthusiasm to keep you going all day long. Due to his excitement, Pongo can be a little mouthy at times, so you might want to invest in some sturdy chew toys! Despite his playful nature, Pongo is also one smart cookie. He's always eager to learn new tricks and commands, and with the right training, he's sure to be the top dog in no time. However, it's worth noting that Pongo may need some extra guidance when it comes to being around kids. He's still learning the ropes, but with patience and lots of treats, he'll be the perfect family pet in no time. Please call 707-459-4900 if you would like to meet Pongo.

Story
LOCATION: SANCTUARY IN WILLITS, CA. Shiro likes to play with toys, and is very smart. He is a moderately high drive dog like most herding breeds and likes activity on his terms. He likes his walks but his insecurities keep him from being a dog park dog. He bonds heavily with a particular person and sometimes a particular dog - he is IN LOVE with the dog SNOW KITTY at the Milo Sanctuary, and would follow him anywhere. Shiro is wary of strangers but is very loyal to his people and for this reason he can be protective. He needs a very predictable, low stim. home to be successful. Training and building Shiro's confidence would be key to have Shiro flourish. *Previous Notes* 5/20/17 "Shiro is a super mellow dog. He just loves to sleep all day when we are at work. He does not bark or chew anything up. He is potty and house trained and never has had an accident inside the house. He is so furry and soft and has stunningly beautiful blue eyes. Shiro loves to run around and play fetch and catch Frisbee when he is not cuddling next to you. He loves the outdoors but is not a super energetic dog. He will just sleep all day or go for a walk with you. He loves squeaky toys and will just collect them from around the house if you hide them. He is intelligent and treat motivated. He was able to learn how to sit and was learning how to stay in just a few training sessions. *Shiro has probably had a rough past. When the vet examined him, we found a pellet in his x-rays. It is probably from being shot. He bonds very well with women and is more skittish with males. He also tends to get scared of men and tries to guard his female guardian sometimes. He does not like strangers coming up to him and gets protective of his owners. He would do well with experienced owners. We are not sure how he does with kids - Milo suggests a home without children for a myriad of reasons due to his stranger danger. He is insecure and can react poorly when meeting new dogs, but usually settles in and is fine - but can take some work with him and a new dog to get past the initial snapping and jitters, running with his tail tucked. *He needs lots of love, affection, and discipline, which we were unable to provide with our busy lives." *Shiro is not a first time dog, nor a city dog. He has fairly severe stranger danger and a bite record, he has fear based aggression to dogs and people. He needs a predictable environment, and a buddy dog. Interested please email an application to sanctuary@milofoundation.org Thank you for considering adoption of a Milo Foundation Sanctuary dog. Our Sanctuary is where our rescued dogs who have had difficulty in a home in the past, have behavioral issues, or too much energy, or for some, aggression issues with other dogs, or intense stranger danger that make them more difficult to safely and happily live in urban environments. These are not beginner dogs or for the most part nor are they for families with children. IF you are looking for an easy dog to add to your family, we suggest looking at the dogs at our Adoption Center, Milo Pt Richmond. BUT, if you can offer a safe and nurturing home to a dog with some behavioral "quirks" please do send an application today. Thank you.

Current Location: Korea 🇰🇷 ♡ 🧡 Meet Ma-eum A gentle soul learning to love again Ma-eum spent his early years tied outside on a farm, living in fear. He was abused by a male owner and frightened by children who threw balls at him. Because of that, he is still afraid of men, loud playground sounds, and the sight of bouncing toys. But despite all this, Ma-eum has the gentlest heart. For the past two years, he has been living in a patient and loving foster home. He has made slow, steady progress — on his terms — and is now ready for the next chapter of his life. 🧬 Personality Ma-eum is a quiet, thoughtful boy with a soft energy. He feels safest around gentle women with warm voices, and he truly thrives in calm, peaceful homes. He may keep his distance from men indoors, but sometimes shows more courage when outdoors. He isn’t the kind of dog who will run into your arms — but with time and patience, he’ll follow you anywhere. He enjoys peaceful walks, nosework games, gentle pets, and long naps by your side. He doesn't bark much, and he waits quietly when left alone after a short adjustment. 🏡 At Home ✅ House-trained (prefers peeing on vertical surfaces — his foster can provide wall-to-floor pads) ✅ Good with calm dogs (interested and social but may growl at overly excited dogs) ✅ Neutral to cats (no strong prey drive) ✅ Tolerates children (nervous around fast movements but never aggressive) ✅ Excellent in the car ✅ Loves brushing and gentle touch 🚫 Afraid of balls and squeaky toys — he prefers games with treats instead 💛 Ma-eum is looking for… A family who will let him set the pace. Someone who doesn’t expect instant cuddles but understands how meaningful it is when a shy dog chooses to stay close. Ideally, a female adopter or a quiet household with gentle energy. 📦 Foster home can provide pee pad setup 📍 Adoption includes interview & home check 📩 If Ma-eum’s story touched your heart, we’d love to tell you more. He’s been waiting a long time for someone who sees past the fear — and into his true, beautiful heart
