Story
There will be a rehoming fee to ensure he goes to a good home. Purebred Aussie. 9 months old. Not fixed(no requirement to be fixed for new home).Good with cats and kids although will need training with very small kids, he is blissfully unaware, unknown with other dogs. Knows common commands and does well on a yard leash, is somewhat trained on the halo collar. Butters is house trained (sits by the door when he has to potty) and sleeps near the bed on his own bed. Loves ice cubes, antler bones and chewing on his toys. He has not chewed the furniture or any shoes. Cuddles by your feet or up on your lap if you let him. Has been a country dog and doesn’t bark often unless something is out of the ordinary. Would be good for him to have a job as his herding instincts are active. Crate trained if needed but he does well inside the house. He’s an extremely good boy and we know his family is out there! If applying, please check spam folder for reply, typically in 24 hrs. In chisago county.

Story
Tettegouche is a tri-colored dog with lots of speckles including on his belly. Tettegouche is a well socialized pup that we believe is about 9 weeks old. He arrived at PUP well fed and well cared for. We think his mom (pictured) is a Swiss White Shepherd (basically a white German shepherd) mix. Daddy was probably an Aussie X but that is best guess. Tettegouche is very sweet and a good cuddler. He is playful and loves people. We believe Tettegouche will weigh about 55-65 as an adult but that is best guess, and his adopter should be prepared to love him if he is larger or smaller when he is all done growing. Tettegouche and his 3 siblings were surrendered to PUP by their owners who lived in a remote rural area. They wanted to find good homes for their pups so they surrendered them to PUP and asked if we would help them get their mom dog spayed. The answer was yes. Puppies are now living with other puppies and dogs and are thriving. They have had lots of company and lap up the attention. Tettegouche is doing a good job of learning housebreaking but he is not quite there yet. He takes care of business right away when he goes out. If you take him out on a regular basis, it all ends up outside. He is being crated at night and for 3-4 hour stints during the work day. He walks reasonably well on a leash (for a puppy). The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Tettegouche has been vaccinated and wormed. He will need two more routine vaccination plus rabies at the owner’s expense. The $375 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.

Story
A portion of Moana's s adoption fee has been sponsored by her friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $400.00 will be applied during the contract process Hi! My name is Moana and I am an owner surrender. This special needs beautiful little girl has made wonderful strides in the 2 months that I've had her. She's getting stronger bit by bit. She is personality plus! She loves to snuggle, loves to play and just gets sooo very excited when you talk to her, get down on the floor to play with her and if the big resident dogs are even just near her. She has a feisty side, too, and does not like to be left out of anything!! She is making great progress in potty training and she'll usually vocally alert you-day or night- when she has to go...but know that she'll still have some accidents. At this point, she doesn't have the coordination to be upright to eat on her own so I still hold her securely in my lap to feed her several small meals a day and also to keep her hydrated (I soak her kibble and still give her some soft food. She will not drink straight water so we are still working on that and by soaking her kibble, it flavors the water and she'll drink it to get to the kibble.) She loves all people and dogs. She hasn't had contact with cats yet that I know of. She'll need flat, safe surfaces when she's in her wheels. She does best on carpets or rugs or grass when upright in her harness to practice balance, strength and walking. She'll need to continue strengthening her muscles and working on her balance. At this point, she cannot get up from the floor on her own. Once she's on her side, she can only move around by scratching/shuffling. She does great for car rides. She sleeps nicely in her soft sided kennel at night, only alerting me by whimpering once or twice per night that she has to go out to potty. She is one of the happiest pups that I've ever fostered and will give her forever family sooooo much love!! From the vet team: Hello! I arrived at Secondhand Hounds as part of the Fighter Fund program due to my Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) diagnosis. CH is a condition resulting from inadequate development of the cerebellum which causes lack of balance/coordination, ambulating, head bobbing, tremors, etc. The SHH Vet Team has provided my foster with physical therapy exercises to help gain strength but I will always have this condition. I have a wheel chair and a harness to help with movement but it is also recommended that my future adopter lay down rubber mats to help with my movement. My future adopter should understand my condition and monitor my health with a primary veterinarian. Also, I have an upcoming surgery with an opthamologist due to ablation of eyelashes which will freeze and kill the hair follicles to help prevent regrowth of these abnormal hairs. This surgery and eye recheck appointment will be covered by SHH as long as it is performed at Animal Eye Speciality Center/Secondhand Hounds Vet Center.

Story
Hi! My name is Marmaduke and I am from Missouri. From the foster: The name is not fitting for this little guy. Marmaduke is a shy little guy but comes out of his shell once he gets to know you. Great cuddler and lap dog. Loves to watch tv. Marmaduke is not sure about how to play yet but is getting there. He likes to follow his buddy resident dog around and is learning good habits. He is good in a crate and sleeps through the night. Would be a great apartment dog he barely makes a sound. Because of his shyness, I would suggest a household with adults and or older children. He is great with other dogs.

Story
I am Alfalfa. I am from Oklahoma. Alfalfa is a sweet, playful, and gentle boy. He loves pets and cuddles. He responds well to treats/food (we often feed him a bit of kibble at a time right out of our hands and he has not demonstrated any "food aggression "). Alfalfa is learning some basic training skills like sitting before he gets something he wants. Alfalfa has been gentle with our two young children and has been getting along with our resident dog. He seems to be able to lie down and fall asleep anywhere. We have been kenneling him when we are gone at work and also at night. He hasn't had any accidents inside the house and has been "communicating" to us to let us know he needs to go out! Alfalfa loves to chew on toys!
