Story
Meet Luna, a 12-year-old mini ted tri Aussie who is not ready for the old folk's home. Weighing about 35 lbs and is up to date on shots, Luna has a little arthritis but is otherwise spry and playful and would like to find a home where she can make the most of her golden years. Emulating Dorothy of the Golden Girls, Luna is pushy and opinionated, but also kind and ready for fun and adventures. She's game for playing ball, taking walks, and maybe even learning a new sport like K9 Nose Work or barn hunt. Otherwise she's happy to just chill and hang out. The little old lady that she is, Luna can be crabby with dogs that pester her so she'd do best either as a single dog or with a dog that can read her (clear and appropriate) communications and give her space. In addition, kids stress her out and she would not be suitable for a home with children younger than high school age. She's just not the grandmotherly type. Luna isn't crazy about crates, but she has excellent house manners -- no accidents, chewing, or getting into stuff. However, she's not above occasionally lolling around on the sofa. Girl likes her comforts! She also likes her groceries and needs someone who can help her watch her waistline as she needs to drop a few pounds for optimal health. Overall she's a fun little dog looking for the right person or people to share her senior years with. The details: Needs a fence: Probably not after she realizes you are her person. Good with cats: Unknown Good with dogs: Yes if they don't pester her or try to steal her stuff when she's using them (toys, chews, etc,) Good with kids: No young kids All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. All dogs have an adoption fee of $400 plus MN sales tax. We pride ourselves on matches that are awesome for both the dog and your family. Story
ymphony is a stunning blue merle female with two blue eyes. Turning 2 in June, Symphony has been spayed, microchipped, and is up to date on shots. Symphony has a very shy, quiet personality. She came to rescue very undersocialized and really unsure of how to handle living in a home where she has freedom to move freely. Initially, she would hide in her crate and would startle at all noises, leading her to run back to her crate. Now she is showing more curiosity in exploring her environment and will now cuddle on the couch with her foster parents and foster diblings. Her first instinct is to run and hide, so she is considered a flight risk at this time. She does enjoy walks, but still does panic at strange noises. Symphony is learning that there's much to explore and her curious nature is slowly emerging. Symphony is crate trained and does love her crate. However, during the day, she is allowed to be out and about and she will hang out quietly while her foster dad works from home. Symphony is also doing well with the resident dogs; she's not really playing with them yet, but will lay quietly nearby or cuddle a bit with them on the couch. At this time, it is believed that she could do well as an only dog or with another dog who is not pushy. Symphony will need a home that is more quiet with less foot traffic and understands her need for slow introductions, extra time for adjusting to new environments, and a willingness to match her pace. She will not be a dog that will instantly bond with you and be ready for all of the adventures right away. But her heart is open and she's looking for her forever family to bond with. The details: Needs a fence: Yes Good with cats: Unknown Good with dogs: Yes if they're not pushy Good with kids: Seems fine, but probably would prefer older kids or teens who are more quiet & calm All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. Story
Odin is a 5 year olds, neutered male black bi Australian Shepherd. He is 37 pounds, housebroke, good with cats, and likes people but is bit nervous around strangers. He does pull on leash some, is well mannered in the house and can sit, down and shake. Odin is currently living in a foster with 6 other dogs with no issues. Odin was a transfer from a shelter in Iowa due to the fact that he has issues with body handling and needs some work in cooperative care to get him comfortable with grooming and vet visits. His foster is working on muzzle training and desensitizing him to brushing. Odin is very treat motivated and loves his training sessions on the grooming table. Scroll down on our facebook to see a live session on cooperative care using Odin as a demo. In that video I mention that Odin is headed to a new home. We took him there but the resident dog and Odin decided very quickly that they did not want to share a home and he came back to his foster the same day. The details: Needs fence: no, but unsure how he is off leash Good with dogs: yes, actively avoids conflict in house with 6 other dogs. Good with cats: yes Good with kids: likely not due to issues with bodily handling. Older kids would be fine. All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. Story
King came to us from our friends at Minneapolis Animal Control (an awesome organization). He has had a rough past (left in a hot car and had to go to an emergency vet for heat exhaustion and had wounds from a collar on his neck). King is a young, estimated to be 2ish years old blue merle male with big fluffy tail. He arrived to rescue weighing 80 lbs, with a need to lose about 10 lbs. King has been living with a foster family that has spent a lot of time determining the kind of forever home he would need to be happy and successful. King is an absolute love bug with his family. He loves to cuddle and play and he is very good with the children who live in the home. He does have a preference for women and has displayed behaviors that would indicate that he can feel protective of them. He can be skeptical of new people, and would benefit from slow introductions. King has not been a fan of other dogs coming into his home, and is not very polite in meeting other dogs, so he would do best as being the only dog in the home. He seemed indifferent to cats in the intake home when he first arrived to ARM, but will chase animals that run, so cats might not find him quite as entertaining as he does. King adores the outdoors; loving walks and playing outside. His leash manners are still work in progress, but he’s eager to learn and please. King does have the herding instinct, and will try to herd children running around so it is not recommended that he’d be placed in a home with young kids. King is housebroken and is crate trained, but he is not a fan of the crate. However, he does have some separation anxiety (which can be common of dogs coming out of the shelter environment) and will get destructive, so for his safety, he does need to be crated when people are gone, or live in a home where someone is home all of the time. ARM and his foster family are currently looking to him assessed for anxiety so we can explore treatment options to support his needs and to keep him safe. King’s ideal home would be a quiet home that doesn’t have many visitors and he can be the only pet in the home. King loves his family with his whole being but does need to have a family that accepts that he’s not a dog that loves social gatherings, but instead would much rather cuddle with you on the couch, and binge watch your favorite series with you. King is being fostered in northern MN, north of Duluth. The details: Needs fence? Not required, but reliable recall will need to be established before going off lead. Good with dogs? No Good with cats? Will chase Good with kids? Children aged 10 or older All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. Story
Meet Shilo, a 10-year-old black tri Aussie who is not ready for the old folk's home. Shilo’s owner passed away in late 2025 and was with a family member of the owner until March 2026. Unfortunately, she was not doing well with the small children at the home and is now with a foster family that took her in. Shilo is spry and playful and would like to find a home where she can make the most of her golden years. She loves to be pet and talked to, loves to go for walks and hang out on the deck. Surveillance is her specialty and she is very watchful. Shilo doesn’t play well with active, playful dogs but can be around others dogs as long as she can just chill. She does like to play with a squeaky toy when she has alone time with her foster family. Shilo isn't crazy about crates, but she has excellent house manners -- no accidents, chewing, or getting into stuff. She patiently waits for her foster family to return home. She is up to date on all of her vaccines and is a healthy, well mannered, wonderful dog that would make a great companion in a loving, forever home. The Details: Need fence: Would be a bonus. Trusted recall would have to be established before going off leash. She seems to have a tendency to be a runner but has returned. Was a car chaser at her original home. Good with dogs: Preferably calm, mature dogs Good with cats: No. Strong herding instinct makes her chase anything that runs. Good with kids: Older kids probably ok, Again, the strong herding instinct is the issue. All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. Story
Eunice came to rescue from Animal Control. She is a spayed female black tri Australian Shepherd, approximately a little over a year old. Eunice is a high energy dog whose foster has worked hard on her tendency to jump on people, so this behavior is much more controlled. She will sit and lie down on command as it is her opinion that these are fun tricks to do! She loves her stuffed toys but does have to monitored when she has them as to not shred them to pieces. (This is why we can't have nice things Eunice... you need to be nice to your toys if you want them to last Eunice...) She loves to be pet and talked to - her foster has been working on her house manners, observing her to be well-intentioned but a diamond in the rough. She needs a home that will enjoy training her and she loves to learn. She does have an off switch - she will enjoy herself on the deck and watch the birds. She loves her crate and has learned to "wait" to come out. She also was recently groomed and was a very good girl for the groomer. The details: Needs fence: Likely no, but needs established trust before being off lead Good with dogs: Yes, better with neutral dogs Good with cats: Not really; does like to chase those that run Good with kids: Seems to be All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers.
