Story
Lilo is a sweet, snuggly, and slightly shy girl with a playful spirit and a big heart. She’s a certified Velcro dog — happiest when she's by your side, following you from room to room with her signature gentle loyalty. Once you earn her trust, you’ll unlock her goofy side: expect zoomies when you get home from work and bouncing excitement when she wants to play. She even gives you the cutest “please play with me” eyes! After a couple days in her new foster home, she settled in really nicely and caught onto the routine quickly. She’s fully potty trained, sleeps through the night in her crate, and even free-roams responsibly when left alone. She is doing well with household manners, like knowing not to jump up, counter surf or steal food, and she is quickly learning the "sit" and “wait” commands. Lilo can be vocal, especially when there are unknown noises that startle her or make her nervous. For this reason, Lilo cannot live in a home with shared walls (no apartments/townhomes).Lilo is polite with other dogs and has done well with both cats and kids in past homes. While she may bark a bit when meeting new people or dogs from afar, she’s quick to warm up and incredibly friendly once she feels safe. As a roommate though, Lilo would prefer to be the only dog or the only female dog. She prefers a calm introduction and a little patience — and in return, you’ll get a best friend for life.Lilo has a moderate-high energy level. A long walk or jog each day, or playing with another dog in the home would meet her needs nicely. She likes to play with toys if her humans are included too. If there is a fenced yard, we recommend at least four feet tall — Lilo can jump!Lilo can be a little anxious in new situations, so she will thrive with a family who has experience with positive reinforcement and redirection training methods, or demonstrate genuine willingness to learn these techniques. She’s smart, well-mannered, and eager to please — a perfect mix of cuddly companion and energetic playmate. If you are interested in Lilo, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

Story
BRITA is about 6 weeks old and we believe she is probably an Aussie/Shepherd cross who will be in the upper end of mid-sized when fully grown. Brita and her sister Yeti were dumped on a country road in a remote area when they were about 4 weeks old. A woman driving down the gravel road saw the pups and stopped (see picture). She gathered up the pups and took them to a nearby town and turned them into the police department. The police contacted PUP to care for and find them forever homes. Brita was in remarkably good condition. Although she had a few ticks, she was plump and she liked being handled and played with so she had been socialized in her previous home. She was vet checked on July 7 and weighed almost 7# and the vet pronounced her to be in good health. We are making a guess on breed. Virtually all dogs from the area have some German Shepherd, some husky, some herding dog and a dash of some small dog with 15-25 identifiable breeds in their DNA. We expect the same to be true for Brita. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Brita is a bit more careful about being picked up than average. Since the window for socializing is wide open for the next 6 weeks, we expect her to make great progress, however, her adopters must be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Brita has been vet checked, vaccinated and de-wormed. She will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. Her required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that she be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. Puppy can be seen and selected now but can not go to her new home until July 26.

Story
Odin is a 5 year olds, neutered male black bi Australian Shepherd. He is 37 pounds, housebroke, good with cats, and likes people but is bit nervous around strangers. He does pull on leash some, is well mannered in the house and can sit, down and shake. Odin is currently living in a foster with 6 other dogs with no issues. Odin was a transfer from a shelter in Iowa due to the fact that he has issues with body handling and needs some work in cooperative care to get him comfortable with grooming and vet visits. His foster is working on muzzle training and desensitizing him to brushing. Odin is very treat motivated and loves his training sessions on the grooming table. Scroll down on our facebook to see a live session on cooperative care using Odin as a demo. In that video I mention that Odin is headed to a new home. We took him there but the resident dog and Odin decided very quickly that they did not want to share a home and he came back to his foster the same day. The details: Needs fence: no, but unsure how he is off leash Good with dogs: yes, actively avoids conflict in house with 6 other dogs. Good with cats: yes Good with kids: likely not due to issues with bodily handling. Older kids would be fine. All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. All dogs have an adoption fee of $400 plus MN sales tax. We pride ourselves on matches that are awesome for both the dog and your family. Aussie Rescue of MN is here for support, advice and as a safety net for our dogs for the rest of their lives.

Story
Eunice came to rescue from Animal Control. She is a spayed female black tri Australian Shepherd, approximately a little over a year old. Eunice is a high energy dog whose foster has worked hard on her tendency to jump on people, so this behavior is much more controlled. She will sit and lie down on command as it is her opinion that these are fun tricks to do! She loves her stuffed toys but does have to monitored when she has them as to not shred them to pieces. (This is why we can't have nice things Eunice... you need to be nice to your toys if you want them to last Eunice...) She loves to be pet and talked to - her foster has been working on her house manners, observing her to be well-intentioned but a diamond in the rough. She needs a home that will enjoy training her and she loves to learn. She does have an off switch - she will enjoy herself on the deck and watch the birds. She loves her crate and has learned to "wait" to come out. She also was recently groomed and was a very good girl for the groomer. The details: Needs fence: Likely no, but needs established trust before being off lead Good with dogs: Yes, better with neutral dogs Good with cats: Not really; does like to chase those that run Good with kids: Seems to be All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. Story
Meet Marti! Marti is a 5 year old, neutered, double merle, male, who came to us almost completely feral. He is a slightly pudgy 40 pounds, crate trained, house broke (but still leaks a little urine when sleeping although we haven't tried medication for that yet as it has been improving). As he is double merle he has some vision issues as well. Marti will need a very special owner that is willing to give him plenty of time to learn to trust. At his foster home Marti gets along with other dogs, is great with cats, and walks off leash in a rural setting. Marti is that lower energy aussie everyone's looking for and would like a quiet home. Marti will need more training in cooperative Care which his foster is working on and is easy to implement. The details: Needs Fence: Depends on setting (needs to gain trust to be leashed, fence necessary in busier area) Good With Dogs: Yes Good With People: Needs patience Good with cats: Yes All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com.
