Story

Odin is a 5 year olds, neutered male black bi Australian Shepherd. He is 37 pounds, housebroke, good with cats, and likes people but is bit nervous around strangers. He does pull on leash some, is well mannered in the house and can sit, down and shake. Odin is currently living in a foster with 6 other dogs with no issues. Odin was a transfer from a shelter in Iowa due to the fact that he has issues with body handling and needs some work in cooperative care to get him comfortable with grooming and vet visits. His foster is working on muzzle training and desensitizing him to brushing. Odin is very treat motivated and loves his training sessions on the grooming table. We took him there but the resident dog and Odin decided very quickly that they did not want to share a home and he came back to his foster the same day. The details: Needs fence: no, but unsure how he is off leash Good with dogs: yes, actively avoids conflict in house with 6 other dogs. Good with cats: yes Good with kids: likely not due to issues with bodily handling. Older kids would be fine. All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. Story

Eunice came to rescue from Animal Control. She is a spayed female black tri Australian Shepherd, approximately a little over a year old. Eunice is a high energy dog whose foster has worked hard on her tendency to jump on people, so this behavior is much more controlled. She will sit and lie down on command as it is her opinion that these are fun tricks to do! She loves her stuffed toys but does have to monitored when she has them as to not shred them to pieces. (This is why we can't have nice things Eunice... you need to be nice to your toys if you want them to last Eunice...) She loves to be pet and talked to - her foster has been working on her house manners, observing her to be well-intentioned but a diamond in the rough. She needs a home that will enjoy training her and she loves to learn. She does have an off switch - she will enjoy herself on the deck and watch the birds. She loves her crate and has learned to "wait" to come out. She also was recently groomed and was a very good girl for the groomer. Meet Marti! Marti is a 5 year old, neutered, double merle, male, who came to us almost completely feral. He is a slightly pudgy 40 pounds, crate trained, house broke (but still leaks a little urine when sleeping although we haven't tried medication for that yet as it has been improving). As he is double merle he has some vision issues as well. Marti will need a very special owner that is willing to give him plenty of time to learn to trust. At his foster home Marti gets along with other dogs, is great with cats, and walks off leash in a rural setting. Marti is that lower energy aussie everyone's looking for and would like a quiet home. Marti will need more training in cooperative Care which his foster is working on and is easy to implement. Kiara is a beautiful 9 year old Australian Shepherd looking for a new home!! She is great with other dogs, cats, and kids. I recently had to move and she is not adjusting well sadly and I have tried everything. She right now is having some urinary issues, the vet has ruled out a UTI multiple times so we believe it is just behavioral at this point. An ideal home for her would be one with a yard and the only dog in the house because she loves attention! But she is so great with kids and cats!! Hoping her new family is out there to give her all the love!!

Meet Slick! A handsome Australian Shepherd born 1/2023. He came to NDLB in April 2024 from a breeder release in Missouri. He is very scared and nervous of any human touch. But with time, he should come out of his shell. He enjoys watching the other dogs in the foster home, but hasn't interacted with them just yet. He hasn't met a cat, so unsure how he would be with that. He is nervous currently, so would recommend older kids at this time. Being a breeder release, he hasn't received any sort of training or how to be "a dog". He is still getting used to being on a leash (he does flail around a bit still so we just go slow). I don't think he has been outside until NDLB as he is unsure what to do. So we are working on potty training. His fur may be in patches as he was going through demodex mange when he first arrived. This mange is the one that is NOT contagious to humans or any pets. He went through treatment of his foster home having to put two ointments on his skin twice a day. His eyes are two colored, or Heterochromia, where one is brown and the other is a sky blue. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, dental, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue.
