Story
Shadow is a high drive working breed border collie who needs someone with breed experience (preferred). Fulfillment requirements: She will need more than just an hour long walk a day to meet her physical requirements. She currently bikes, hikes, and loves to swim. She is also well versed in carrying a weighted pack on her hikes, which helps her tune into her body and slow her mind. She's an athletic girl and needs someone to match that lifestyle. Sociability (Dog preferences): Shadow is dog selective. She would be perfectly fine in a home with no other dogs but would also do ok if she found a home with the right dog for her. No little dogs or other small animals though. She doesn't enjoy every dog but enjoys most in the proper introductions are taken. She doesn't enjoy chaos with other dogs but loves to partake in structured pack activities. She is NOT a dog park or high-energy daycare type dog. Training: She's crate trained and sleeps, eats and rests in one daily. She's highly intelligent and learns quickly. She is well versed in basic obedience cues: sit, down, stand, stay, recall, place, middle, and loose leash walking. She does not enjoy being approached, touched or spoken to by strangers but has increased her thresholds for tolerance by quite a lot. She can navigate public spaces with the proper guidance but is probably never going to be a "coffee shop" dog. Shadow's Adoption fee is $250 and includes spay, microchip and current vaccinations. Story
Penny is a loving, sweet, and playful dog who has been part of our family for the past 5 years. She is a very smart and energetic girl who loves attention, being around her people, and having space to explore and play. She would do best in a home that has the time, patience, and space to give her the exercise, attention, and enrichment she needs. We are looking for a loving home where Penny can thrive and have someone who can give her the time and care she deserves. She is a wonderful dog and this is a very difficult decision for us, but we want to find the best possible home for her.

Story
How this pet arrived: Toby was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on January 5, 2026. Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Toby! This affectionate boy is happiest spending time with his people and soaking up all the love and attention he can get. According to his previous owner, Toby is "not a big walker" and prefers a mellow, relaxed lifestyle - making him a great match for a calm home where he can simply enjoy being by your side. He likes to approach new people at his own pace, but once he's comfortable, he makes human friends quickly and enjoys companionship. He will thrive best in an household where any children are 10+ and his body language can be understood and respected. Toby has been known to be protective of his favorite items, so he is looking for a home where he can be the only pet and where high-value resources can be carefully managed. He is also not a candidate for dog parks or other off-leash venues, but there are lots of other activities you can do together to strengthen your bond! With the right home, Toby will reward his adopters with loyalty, affection and heartfelt companionship. Ask about adopting him today! At SDHS:Toby has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He is now ready for his new home! Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 65.8 Age: 3yrs 11mths 1wks

Story
Meet Corky! ❤️ At 12 years young, Corky is proof that age is just a number. This adorable Australian Shepherd/Terrier mix found himself at the shelter after his family moved, but he’s ready to find a forever home that will love him through his golden years. His foster mom affectionately calls him “Porky” because mealtime is his absolute favorite part of the day! Corky is fully potty trained and has never had an accident in his foster home. He’s also a quiet companion who rarely barks—though that may be because his hearing isn’t what it used to be. Corky can be a little shy when meeting new people, but give him a little time and you’ll see his fun, puppy-like personality shine through. Once he trusts you, he’s full of love, enjoys everyone he meets, and still has plenty of playful energy left. He’s also wonderful with other dogs and would be happy to share his home with a canine companion. If you’re looking for a loyal, easygoing best friend who loves treats, naps, and being part of the family, Corky is waiting to meet you. Senior dogs have so much love to give, and Corky is ready to spend his golden years showing you just how special they are.

Story
How Trooper arrived:Trooper was brought in by his previous owner on June 29, 2026. Why Trooper is the one for you:Trooper is reporting for duty as your new chief of sniffing, zoomies and very serious grass-rolling operations. This handsome goofball has a nose for fun and a talent for turning an ordinary walk into a full-scale adventure. Trooper can have a bit of "stranger danger", but once he feels comfortable, his playful personality comes right out. He enjoys bouncing around, offering adorable play bows, and showing off his delightfully silly side. Trooper has a positive history with dogs and may enjoy a canine companion after a thoughtful introduction. Trooper is deaf and may have some vision impairment, so he needs people who appreciate his special way of experiencing the world - a calm, predictable home where he can have space to adjust is an important part of helping him feel safe. He's looking for a home without young kids (10+), and we recommend that the whole family come for the meet-and-greet! The best Trooper teammates will celebrate consistency, patience and peaceful hangouts until he feels more comfortable. Trooper may take a little time to warm up, but the reward is one wonderfully goofy, gentle-snacking, grass-rolling, tail-wagging pal! Give this brave little Trooper patience, kindness and a calm home base, and he will be ready to report for love! Please bring a leash and collar when adopting. At SDHS:Trooper has been vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He is now ready for adoption! Primary Color: White Weight: 63 Age: 6yrs 2mths 2wks

Story
How this pet arrived: Phoenix was brought in by their previous owner on September 2, 2026. Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Phoenix! If there's water involved-whether it's chasing the garden hose, splashing around, or even hopping into the bath-he is totally in his element. Phoenix is a clever, active guy who loves a good game of fetch, daily adventures and having a "job" to keep his busy brain happy. Phoenix can be timid when meeting new people, so the trick is just letting him come to you. Give him that bit of patience and you get the full package: goofy playfulness and top-tier cuddles. The whole family must be present to meet Phoenix before adoption and any kids should be 8 or older. If you already have a pup, an on-campus meet is required to make sure the vibes are right-he prefers mellow dog pals who won't overwhelm him. Ready for a smart, splash-loving sidekick? Phoenix is ready to meet you!Shy/Fearful Dog: Phoenix requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them. At SDHS: Phoenix has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. Phoenix is now ready for his new home! Primary Color: Red Merle Weight: 38.4 Age: 3yrs 6mths 1wks
