Linda is a gentle, one-year-old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, weighing in at about 37–40 pounds. This sweet girl has a soft, sensitive soul and a story of resilience that makes her all the more special. She was found in an isolated area in heartbreaking condition—malnourished, covered in fleas and ticks, and struggling with painful skin issues. A kind-hearted gentleman discovered her curled up in a ditch at the end of his gravel drive. He took her in, got her the medical care she desperately needed, and showed her love and kindness until she was ready to find a rescue. Thanks to him, Linda got a second chance at life. Because of her past, Linda is very shy and submissive. It took her about six months in foster care before she felt safe enough to accept gentle pets without cowering. She’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place—but she’s making progress every day. One thing Linda does love is other dogs! She lights up when she has a canine friend around and happily follows their lead. She’ll need a home with a playful, confident dog who can help guide her and show her the ropes. Linda is housebroken and thrives in a consistent, calm environment. She’s not yet comfortable walking on a leash and will flatten to the ground when one is put on, so she’ll need a secure, fenced yard where she can safely explore and play. Linda is looking for a patient, compassionate home that will give her the time and understanding she needs to fully come out of her shell. In return, you’ll get to watch a truly special dog continue her journey from surviving to thriving. I'm a sweet girl and would love to be your activity companion. Let's go for long walks, car rides, and play till we drop!! I'm around 10 months old and am said to be a Border Collie/Great Pyrenees mix- two fantastic breeds that are smart, loyal, and sweethearts. Take me out for playtime and I'll show you what you've been missing... Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to write. We are looking for a rescue or very experienced, child-free home for our 9-year-old Border Collie, Baron. Baron is: • Incredibly smart • Loyal and loves his people • A total lounger at home, but also like to run around in the yard • Happy in a calm, predictable environment However, we need to be very honest about why we’re making this decision: Baron has anxiety and reactivity, especially with other dogs and high-stimulation situations. Most importantly, he is not safe around children. He has had two bite incidents involving our daughter, including a recent bite to the face after being startled. Because of this, we cannot keep him in our home, and our priority is finding the safest and most appropriate placement for both him and others. Baron would do best in: • A child-free home • With someone experienced with reactive/anxious dogs • A calm environment (not a busy household) • Someone who understands bordercollie's behavior

Here is what they say about Snickers, a young BC/Aussie mix: Do you need a little Snickers in your life?? A yummy nougat encased in creamy chocolate to “make you feel you” as the famous advertisement states. This wonderful boy is a Aussie border collie mix. He is approximately 3 years old and weighs 60 pounds. Snickers has the kindest eyes that will melt your heart. To be honest he is struggling in the shelter. Although he is safe, knows he has delicious meals served daily and daily walks he would benefit greatly being in a foster or permanent home. Snickers is a fluffy black and white male, with white front legs and black back legs. He is very smart and is craving to be mentally and physically challenged. His breed mix desires to be trained, given commands and lots of mental stimulus. The shelter is a very loud and is over capacity so he is fearful of his current situation. Each day he improves and when he goes outside for his walks he does a cute little trot of a dance to celebrate. Snickers tail is the short stub that wiggles when he is outside smelling everything Mother Nature has to offer. So what does Snickers need?? A loving patient family that will allow him to relax and trust humans. He would enjoy a bubble bath and a nice brushing to make his black and white coat shine. Snickers is food motivated so his training will be fun and engaging for his new partner. So come in and meet this precious soul and let your heart melt with his sugary sweetness.
