Story
Lola is a playful, friendly, and active pup with a big personality and an even bigger love for fun! She is happiest when busy chewing on her toys or proudly 'redecorating' her stuffies, so durable, hard toys are a must for this energetic girl. Lola enjoys her meals and special treats and does best with supervised mealtimes and continued positive, reward-based training to help her shine. She is selective with her dog friends, not a fan of cats, and does best with older children who can match her energy and respect her space. The perfect home for Lola would be one that embraces her playful spirit and enjoys an active, engaging companion. She will thrive with adopters who can provide structure, consistency, and fun enrichment such as walks, playtime, and training games. Lola would love to be the star of the show in a home with patient humans who understand her boundaries and cheer her on as she continues to learn and grow.Lola is ready and waiting to bring joy, laughter, and lots of tail wags to a loving home that is ready for her vibrant personality!Lola is one year old and weighs 61 pounds. The adoption fee for adult dogs, seven months and older, is $250. All pets are microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and will be altered prior to adoption. If you are interested in meeting a dog, please stop by the shelter during open hours. Dogs may be in a foster home, therefore scheduling an appointment is recommended. If you have an existing dog at home, we recommend bringing it along to meet your possible new family member.helpingstrays.org

Story
Linda is a gentle, one-year-old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, weighing in at about 37–40 pounds. This sweet girl has a soft, sensitive soul and a story of resilience that makes her all the more special. She was found in an isolated area in heartbreaking condition—malnourished, covered in fleas and ticks, and struggling with painful skin issues. A kind-hearted gentleman discovered her curled up in a ditch at the end of his gravel drive. He took her in, got her the medical care she desperately needed, and showed her love and kindness until she was ready to find a rescue. Thanks to him, Linda got a second chance at life. Because of her past, Linda is very shy and submissive. It took her about six months in foster care before she felt safe enough to accept gentle pets without cowering. She’s still learning that the world can be a safe and loving place—but she’s making progress every day. One thing Linda does love is other dogs! She lights up when she has a canine friend around and happily follows their lead. She’ll need a home with a playful, confident dog who can help guide her and show her the ropes. Linda is housebroken and thrives in a consistent, calm environment. She’s not yet comfortable walking on a leash and will flatten to the ground when one is put on, so she’ll need a secure, fenced yard where she can safely explore and play. Linda is looking for a patient, compassionate home that will give her the time and understanding she needs to fully come out of her shell. In return, you’ll get to watch a truly special dog continue her journey from surviving to thriving.  If you are interested, complete the  Adoption Application  on our website at  www.NeedyPaws.org  and we will contact you.  Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO. Linda’s adoption fee is $295.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip. We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter. Story
Ming is the kind of dog who turns heads without even trying. Striking, stoic, and impossibly beautiful, she carries herself with a quiet confidence that makes her unforgettable from the moment you meet her. There’s an elegance to Ming — a calm, thoughtful presence that stands out in a world full of chaos. She doesn’t need to bounce off the walls or demand attention to make an impression. Instead, she wins hearts with steady companionship, soulful eyes, and the quiet way she chooses to stay close to the people she trusts. Beneath her composed exterior is a dog who simply wants connection and comfort. Ming seems to understand the value of peace: slow walks, soft places to rest, and the comfort of sharing space with someone she loves. For the person looking for a loyal companion with grace, depth, and undeniable beauty, Ming is truly one of a kind. If you are interested in a meet and greet for adoption for Ming, please fill out an application on our website at www.gatewaypets.org/adopt. If you are interested in learning more about Ming or the adoption process at GPG, please email placement@gatewaypets.org All of our dogs and cats will be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations at the time of adoption. For more photos of Ming, follow us on Facebook Gateway Pet Guardians and Instagram @gatewaypets ... #gpgMing. To view other adoptable pets from our shelter, please visit, www.gatewaypets.org/adopt. Story
Meet Plankton: He’s Got a Plan (to be your best friend!) Are you looking for sweet guy with a name that’s a total conversation starter? Meet Plankton! Don't let the name fool you—he isn't looking for world domination or a secret recipe. He’s just looking for a cozy home and a family to call his own. I'm on stray hold until 4/28/26. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2719214##
