Story
Meet Loki! He may take some time to open up to new faces, but beneath his guarded exterior lies a loyal and protective companion. Initially reserved with strangers, Loki prefers to set the pace when it comes to forming new connections. However, once he establishes trust, he is a steadfast and protective presence for his people. In his previous home, Loki has proven himself to be a reliable companion in households with children. His protective instincts extend to those he cares about, making him a loyal guardian. Loki is not only house trained but also kennel trained, displaying a knack for adapting to routines. His resource guarding tendencies and protectiveness may manifest during mealtimes or when strangers enter his domain, requiring a watchful eye and understanding approach. He is also capable of jumping a 6ft fence, so his new family will need to take the proper measures to ensure that he doesn't escape. For Loki to thrive, he craves both mental and physical stimulation. He will require regular exercise and ample attention in his forever home. If you're prepared to invest time, understanding, and love into this enigmatic canine friend, Loki may just become the loyal and loving companion you've been searching for!

Story
Hi, I'm Pacheco, and it's so nice to meet you! I am a playful 2-year-old cattle dog mix just counting down the days until I find my people! I'm a total puppy at heart and have lots of energy. I love running around and playing with other dogs! My foster mom is helping me with potty training and says I'm getting better and better each day. I need a bit of guidance in the manners department - after all, there's always room for a little refinement! Because of this, I would do best in a home without small children. My foster mom thinks I could really benefit from some training. I hope to find a home with a family with an active lifestyle or with another rambunctious doggo to play with every single day!

Story
Jenkins is a spirited cattle dog with boundless energy and a playful spirit! He is a social butterfly when it comes to canine companions, thriving with dogs who appreciate his unique play style. While he can be a bit jumpy and mouthy in his interactions with both humans and fellow dogs, his enthusiasm is infectious. Jenkins is seeking a special home where his owners are well-versed in the quirks and intelligence of cattle dogs. He would be best suited for an active household, where he can channel his enthusiasm into various activities. He would do best in a home without younger children.

Story
Meet Vienna! A 2 year old Carolina dog mix, weighing around 45 pounds. Vienna gets along well with those young energetic boy dogs, she really loves playing with Nomad at the shelter. She keeps her kennel clean and isn't a huge barker. Vienna can be a little shy at first, which is why she has been here since June. This world can be tough for Wallflowers! But we know there is someone out that that will give her the time she needs to shine. Once she loves you, she will be in your lap, giving you kisses. Vienna is medium energy, she will enjoy a walk then a snuggle on the couch while you catch up on your favorite show. Vienna is up to date on her shots, spayed, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Come down to meet her by calling the shelter at 816-325-7207 to schedule an appointment.

Story
Renegade came to us in 2015 as a 4-6 month old pup. She was on the urgent list at the Kansas City shelter: "***Rescue Only - Pup was brought to the shelter by animal control. It appears that she has had no previous human socialization and is very defensive when staff attempts to interact with her." Most ferals you work with will shut down, and curl up, and not really think about biting the thing scaring them. Renegade was different (hence her name). She will defend herself and will try to scare strangers away before they ever get near her. She eventually bonded to us and we could handle her and pet her and she'd curl up in a ball and allow the touching without defending herself. She'd wag her tail for us, and get excited to see us but then if you reached for her she'd run to her safe spot (an open wire crate) and curl up. With time, patience, and consistency she will now just cower down for petting, not run away. She WANTS the petting. She's so happy with us, dances around wagging her tail, gives us little kisses, loves treats, but when you reach for her she'll cower down and wait for the petting. The feral dog in her. With strangers, she acts like she's a guard dog and tries to scare them away...but with treats, time, and love she'll warm up to you. Renegade loves it here, she's safe here, but if a skilled, special person was interested in her...she is available for adoption. In the wrong home Renegade would bite someone. So we will be thorough in our screening of potential homes. Because of her trust/fear issues the potential adopter would need to come to our property to meet her 2-3 times a week for 3-6 weeks in a row to build a bond with her. Socially Imperfect...but still worth it. Renegade is a happy dog, who loves life, loves to play with other dogs, and deserves to live. She's a perfect example of why we do what we do. Just because she's not a 'normal' dog doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to live. Check out this video of her playing: https://www.facebook.com/AutumnAcres/posts/3285192524848339 Renegade doesn't have a sponsor. Want to help provide toys, treats, and routine medical care for her? Become her sponsor! $50 a month is all we need to help provide for her.

Story
Blink 182 (also known as Jack) is a quiet and shy boy who is looking for a calm, loving female-only home to settle into that has a safe little space he can call his own. He's potty trained and very clean. He doesn't like loud people or noises, so he would do best in a quiet home that doesn't have a lot of activity or visitors. He can be reactive to very loud and fast-moving strangers that enter his space; he just wants to protect his family as best as he can. Riding in the car is not something Jack is a fan of, but he very much enjoys short walks and stays with his foster mom even when he is not on leash (although he is leashed when away from their country home). He also enjoys long naps and being near his foster mom, although he is not a lap dog and prefers to have a good bit of personal space. Since he sleeps so much, his foster mom finds that he doesn't need to be crated. He would likely do best in a home without children. He is not a big fan of men, so he would need to live in a female-only household. Jack has a strong prey drive so should not be in a home with cats or other small animals. He has not been around other dogs in foster, so we are unsure of how he would coexist in a home with canine siblings. Blink 182 would do best with a patient adopter who gives him plenty of time to adjust to dog life.
