Story
Poor Genevieve was found stuck in a culvert in Texas, unable to stand. She was rescued from that situation and sent to an animal shelter. NorthStar rescued her from that shelter and has taken her into their care. She has seen our vet who said the issue with her back legs is not serious. She just has an old spinal injury. She knows how to walk but isn’t totally aware currently of where her back legs are. Vet says it’s not degenerative. She has no other health issues and will be up for adoption soon. Genevieve is about 7 years old and weighs 30 pounds and she gets along well with other dogs. If you are interested in adopting Genevieve, please fill out an adoption form at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for GENEVIEVE TX!October 12, 2024, 8:16 pm

Story
FOREVER HOME NEEDED!! Kubo came to us in 2020, and was adopted relatively quickly! Unfortunately, his owners could not handle Kubo and it led to them needing to return him. He was terrified upon being back at the kennel, a completely different dog than what had came to us originally. We found Kubo a wonderful foster home where he has been for 2 years! He never receives ANY interest We are now desperate. Kubo's foster is returning to work and will not have enough time to care for him. This poor boy needs his FOREVER home ASAP!!! Kubo is a very smart 5 year old cuddle bug. He LOVES to cuddle on his person and be around them. He has been undergoing training and has come such a long way. Kubo is good with other dogs but can be very vocal when seeing them outside which is part of what his training has consisted of. He would do amazing in a lower traffic home with adults/older teens If you are interested in Kubo, visit EHRDOGS.ORG and fill out an application for KUBOOctober 13, 2024, 1:16 pm

Story
Meet Dottie! Doesn’t she look trim and fit? 😳 Believe it or not, this is after already losing 5lbs since coming into our care a few weeks ago. Dottie was a whopping 35lbs on arrival, probably double her ideal weight! She looks like a giant chihuahua who ate 10 other chihuahuas, or a mini border collie someone put in a baler to compress into a compact little square for easy storage 🤣 Medical testing has revealed she does have an excuse for her severe obesity besides just clearly having access to all-you-can-eat buffets… she has Cushing’s disease which was causing her excess hunger as well as obsessive thirst. Luckily it’s easily treated and managed with daily pills longterm and regular bloodwork monitoring, and we are hopeful she will live a normal lifespan as long as she continues to lose weight and get back into good health. Dottie is a joyful happy little 8-10 year old “young at heart” senior. She’s great with other dogs and has always lived with them, very friendly with all people, a star patient at the vet, and loves playing with and fetching squeaky toys. We haven’t seen a mean bone in her squishy little body, or seen or felt any bones for that matter 🩻. She’s pretty active or at least wants to be- right now she tires easily and starts turning blue and snorting and grunting with any exercise or heat. But hopefully if her weight loss continues, by the end of the summer she will be in shape enough to enjoy some fall hikes and fun times with her new people. She would be a great addition to just about any home that will enjoy her infectious happiness and fun personality, always looking up at you with a smile and ready to accompany you anywhere- a walk, car ride, nap, or just making sure you don’t have to go to the bathroom alone. And of course someone who will keep her toy basket full and doesn’t mind finding squeaky toys all over the house and continue her on her medication longterm. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Dottie in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Mia gave birth to 8 beautiful puppies. She has been a wonderful Mom to her babies and now it's time for everyone to find their forever homes. Mia has since been spayed so her Mommy days are over. Mia is a sweet, friendly girl who gets along with people and other dogs. We do not know what she thinks of cats. She looks like she has some Border Collie in her but she is less energetic than the typical Border Collies we see. Mia is about 4-5 years old and 35 pounds. Please help Mia find the loving home she deserves. Update: Mia tested positive for Ehrlicchia, another common tick borne disease similar to Lyme's. She is undergoing a short course of antibiotic and is feeling great. Mia is currently available for adoption and any remaining pills will be sent home with her new family for completion. Don't miss out on this awesome girl! We do NOT ship our animals. All adoptive families must travel to us to meet their adoptive dog/cat. Applicants must live within a 2 hour radius from Sparta/Andover (07871/07821). Please understand that we are an animal shelter and thus unable to say whether the dogs are housebroken as they are not in homes. Story
A litter of 8 puppies were born comprising of 4 girls (Dot, Lali, Kohna & Tink) and 4 boys (Jordan, Peyton, Rizzo & Kane). Their Mom is Mia (also up for adoption) and she looks to be perhaps a Border Collie x Lab mix. The puppies all got great care from their Mom and now it's time for everyone to find their own homes. The 8 siblings are all happy & playful puppies who get along with people and other dogs. We do not know what they think of cats. They are about 9-10 weeks old and 6-7 pounds each. Please help Khona find the loving home she deserves. ***You must provide a vet reference for a current or past pet you have/had.*** We do NOT ship our animals.
