Story
Riley, thought to be born in January or February of 2015 is a tricolor, smooth coat collie/border collie mix with some brindle markings on his legs. He has experienced 2 failed adoptions. He was adopted from us when he was about 6 months old and was returned to us 3 years later when the male member of the adoptive family, who had Alzheimer’s, became abusive toward him. In time he began developing his self-confidence again and began to lose his fear of men. Even though he was still somewhat leery of men he didn’t know, he would actually seek attention from men with whom he was familiar. He got along well with the dogs in his foster home but he behaved aggressively toward any new foster dog that periodically come in. He is not good with cats as he showed aggression toward the clinic cat at our vet’s office. Riley was adopted a second time, but after a year of trying different techniques to manage Riley’s difficult behaviors his second adopter felt that she could no longer handle him and once again Riley was returned to us. He left us weighing 55 pounds and returned, markedly overweight, at 78 pounds. He is now back to a healthy weight. Riley has had extensive training. He is quite smart and learns quickly. He rides well in a car and walks well on a leash unless he meets a dog while out on the walk, in which case he will pull and act aggressively. Riley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. Riley is currently in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $415 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Riley, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in

FOREVER HOME NEEDED!!  Kubo came to us in 2020, and was adopted relatively quickly! Unfortunately, his owners could not handle Kubo and it led to them needing to return him. He was terrified upon being back at the kennel, a completely different dog than what had came to us originally. We found Kubo a wonderful foster home where he has been for 2 years! He never receives ANY interest . We are now desperate. Kubo's foster is returning to work and will not have enough time to care for him. This poor boy needs his FOREVER home ASAP!!! Kubo is a very smart 5 year old cuddle bug. He LOVES to cuddle on his person and be around them. He has been undergoing training and has come such a long way. Kubo is good with other dogs but can be very vocal when seeing them outside which is part of what his training has consisted of. He would do amazing in a lower traffic home with adults/older teens. If you are interested in Kubo, visit EHRDOGS.ORG and fill out an application for KUBO (function () { // Only on animal detail pages if (!/\/animals\/detail/i.test(location.pathname)) return; // Debounce to avoid double-fire (touchend + click, etc.) var lastNavAt = 0; function toFullSize(url) { try { var u = new URL(url, location.href); u.searchParams.delete('width'); u.searchParams.delete('height'); return u.toString(); } catch (e) { return url || ''; } } function looksLikeAnimalPhoto(url) { return /\/pictures\/animals\/\d+\/\d+\/[^?#]+\.(jpg|jpeg|png|gif)/i.test(url || ''); } function handler(e) { var el = e.target; if (!el) return; // Find the closest anchor or image in the click path var a = el.closest ? el.closest('a') : null; var img = el.closest ? el.closest('img') : null; var url = ''; // Prefer anchor href if it points to an animal photo if (a && a.getAttribute) { var href = a.getAttribute('href') || ''; if (href && (href.indexOf('/pictures/animals/') !== -1 || looksLikeAnimalPhoto(href))) { url = href; } } // Otherwise fall back to the image src if (!url && img && img.getAttribute) { var src = img.getAttribute('src') || ''; if (src && (src.indexOf('/pictures/animals/') !== -1 || looksLikeAnimalPhoto(src))) { url = src; } } if (!url) return; // Absolute URL + full-size version try { url = new URL(url, location.href).toString(); } catch (_) {} url = toFullSize(url); // Stop PrettyPhoto (and any other delegated click handlers) e.preventDefault(); e.stopPropagation(); if (e.stopImmediatePropagation) e.stopImmediatePropagation(); // Debounce var now = Date.now(); if (now - lastNavAt < 500) return; lastNavAt = now; // SAME TAB navigation to the full-size image location.href = url; } // Capture phase is the key: we get the event before PrettyPhoto. Story
Meet Eliza! This young adult petite border collie mix is looking for a special person to continue her training and socialization. She is very fearful and distrustful of people until she bonds, but once she trusts is a fun high energy walking, hiking and jogging companion with her chosen buddy. She's fearful and avoids other dogs and is looking for a calmer experienced adult home with just one person she can bond to and protect. She loves to catch frisbees and play fetch and is a dog who needs a "job" to keep her mind busy and give her an appropriate outlet for her energy... no couch potatoes for this dog! Eliza is about 35lbs full grown and has the intelligence and energy of a border collie, with a bit more of the independent attitude of a shiba or spitz type breed. *Multiple meets required* Please submit an application for an appointment to meet her Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Age: 6yrs 9mths 2wks

Story
Brains, beauty, and loyalty in one package- That's our survivor Hannah! This compact 9 year old came to us as a pup originally after being hit by a car and left for dead with a fractured leg and pelvis. After a complicated surgery and rehab she made a full recovery and is an active healthy girl. Sadly due to changes in her adopters' living situation she is back at the shelter after years in a loving home, and she's very unhappy about it:/Hannah is a bit nervous and untrusting with new people, but after proper introductions and some yummy treats to win her over her sweet side shines through. She's very in tune to her people and their moods, and once you are in her circle of friends her loyalty and devotion is unmatched. She hasn't been socialized with other dogs and reacts when she sees them at a distance on leash, and a home where she can be the only pet and in a quieter low traffic living arrangement would be best for her. She knows her commands, is housebroken and well mannered in the house, and is about 50lbs full grown. We think she's border collie or cattle dog mixed with pittie, and she has the intelligence, energy, and playfulness of all 3 rolled into one little dog. Adults only please, she hasn't been around kids and they would frighten her. Please help Hannah find her perfect home and submit an application today for an appointment to meet her Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 58 Age: 10yrs 0mths 1wks

Story
An unspayed female and a roaming male produced an "oops" litter of 7 puppies. Mom is now being spayed to prevent such future outcomes from happening again and now 5 girls and 2 boys are literally the puppies of the week looking for new homes. Mom is a fluffy black and white border collie mix and of course, Daddy is unknown. The puppies are all social, fun loving, playful and happy babies who get along with kids and other dogs. We do not know how they are with cats. They are about 3 months old and 9-10 pounds. Please help Monday find the loving home she deserves. "Puppies of the Week: litter: Girls are Sunday, Monday, Tues, Wednesday & Friday. Boys are Thursday & Saturday. ***You must provide a vet reference for a current or past pet you have/had.*** "Puppies of the Week" litter's adoption fee is $550. For puppies that have not been able to be neutered/spayed yet (due to being too young or small) we charge $550 with the condition that when they are fixed $50 is refunded. This covers all their age-appropriate shots, microchipping and vetting.

These pups are in Boonton, New Jersey too!

Story
If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick then Joey is your guy. We think this gorgeous tricolor male could be a cross between an Australian Shepherd and an English Shepherd, both of which are very intelligent breeds. Joey does not like being crated and he thinks it is totally unnecessary as he has really good house manners. Joey LOVES to be outside during the day and he would make a great hiking buddy as he is always ready for an adventure. However, he is not hyper at all, and also likes to just chill out if that’s what you prefer. Joey does well with other dogs and would be happiest with another dog in the house unless you are home all the time. Each morning when he is let out into the fenced back yard, he goes out the door, stops, turns around and waits for the other foster dog to come out before proceeding off the deck. Joey was picked up as a stray by and is guesstimated to be 3-5 years old. Joey walks well on a leash, even though he pulls a bit at first, and he rides well in a car. Joey weighed 46.4 pounds on 3/26/26. He has been neutered, microchipped and is up to date on vaccinations. Unfortunately, he did test heartworm positive. He is asymptomatic for heartworms and is on the doxycycline protocol which is the “slow kill” method. On this protocol, Joey receives monthly heartworm prevention to protect him from further heartworm infestation and he gets doxycycline twice a day every other month until he tests negative for heartworms. He can be given a proheart 6 or a proheart 12 shot if adopter prefers that method of heartworm prevention rather than the monthly dosing. Also, on this protocol he has no activity restrictions so he can live life normally throughout the treatment process. With this protocol he should test negative in a couple of years.Joey’s adoption donation is $450 which includes the $165 transport fee. Joey is being fostered in Arkansas. If you would like to adopt Joey, please fill out an adoption application. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Meet Boochie (aka Booch, aka Kombucha if you’re fancy). Boochie was adopted out in 2021 and, through absolutely no fault of her own, recently found herself back with us. Huge shout-out to her previous adopters for doing the right thing and honoring the contract — once a NorthStar dog, always a NorthStar dog. Now Boochie is ready for a fresh start and her next forever home. She’s older, wiser, and… let’s say, a bit fluffier than she was back in 2021. But don’t judge — she’s on her weight-control food, taking daily walks, and already seeing progress. New year, new Booch! Maybe she’ll even be your accountability buddy in the “healthy habits” department (you know, if you’re into that sort of thing). Boochie is around 7 years old, housebroken and crate trained. She weighs in at about 58 pounds — down from 69 when she returned to us — so yes, she really is putting in the work! Boochie snoozes through the night in her crate like a total pro and will even hang out in there during the day with the door open. She’s also an excellent work-from-home co-worker and will quietly supervise from her spot by your desk. With other dogs, Boochie is friendly but still learning her manners — she tends to be a little extra with toys and snacks (with dogs, not humans), and her play style is very “in your face, let’s be best friends RIGHT NOW.” A chill, tolerant dog who can help teach her the ropes would be ideal. Her favorite hobby? FETCH. Capital letters absolutely necessary. For her size, she’s surprisingly active, agile, and downright enthusiastic about chasing down a tennis ball. Leash walking? Well… it’s a bit chaotic, but she’s working on that too. If Boochie’s mix of sweetness, sass, and self-improvement vibes is speaking to you, fill out an application and don’t forget to mention Boochie TX! NOTE: We have included pictures of Boochie from 2021 when she was younger and, um, thinner :)July 5, 2026, 6:38 pm
