Story
Excelsis is a beautiful Shepherd/Border Collie mix who is about 12 years old and 65 lbs, looking for her forever home. Celsie, as she is lovingly called at EHR, would be a great companion for a dog savvy owner. She needs a family that will work with her on manners. She is playful and energetic, but has a timid side around people she doesn't know. Celsie has learned "sit" and "off" and is currently working on leash manners. She is dog friendly but not good with cats. Celsie would do best in a home with adults who are willing to give her the one-on-one attention she has been waiting for. If you would like to meet this beautiful girl, please fill out an application and ask for Excelsis! If you cannot adopt her but would like to give her a foster home, please fill out a dog foster application!  May 18, 2024, 8:36 pm

Story
FOREVER HOME NEEDED!! Kubo came to us in 2020, and was adopted relatively quickly! Unfortunately, his owners could not handle Kubo and it led to them needing to return him. He was terrified upon being back at the kennel, a completely different dog than what had came to us originally. We found Kubo a wonderful foster home where he has been for 2 years! He never receives ANY interest We are now desperate. Kubo's foster is returning to work and will not have enough time to care for him. This poor boy needs his FOREVER home ASAP!!! Kubo is a very smart 5 year old cuddle bug. He LOVES to cuddle on his person and be around them. He has been undergoing training and has come such a long way. Kubo is good with other dogs but can be very vocal when seeing them outside which is part of what his training has consisted of. He would do amazing in a lower traffic home with adults/older teens If you are interested in Kubo, visit EHRDOGS.ORG and fill out an application for KUBOMay 18, 2024, 8:36 pm

Story
Meet Dottie! Doesn’t she look trim and fit? 😳 Believe it or not, this is after already losing 5lbs since coming into our care a few weeks ago. Dottie was a whopping 35lbs on arrival, probably double her ideal weight! She looks like a giant chihuahua who ate 10 other chihuahuas, or a mini border collie someone put in a baler to compress into a compact little square for easy storage 🤣 Medical testing has revealed she does have an excuse for her severe obesity besides just clearly having access to all-you-can-eat buffets… she has Cushing’s disease which was causing her excess hunger as well as obsessive thirst. Luckily it’s easily treated and managed with daily pills longterm and regular bloodwork monitoring, and we are hopeful she will live a normal lifespan as long as she continues to lose weight and get back into good health. Dottie is a joyful happy little 8-10 year old “young at heart” senior. She’s great with other dogs and has always lived with them, very friendly with all people, a star patient at the vet, and loves playing with and fetching squeaky toys. We haven’t seen a mean bone in her squishy little body, or seen or felt any bones for that matter 🩻. She’s pretty active or at least wants to be- right now she tires easily and starts turning blue and snorting and grunting with any exercise or heat. But hopefully if her weight loss continues, by the end of the summer she will be in shape enough to enjoy some fall hikes and fun times with her new people. She would be a great addition to just about any home that will enjoy her infectious happiness and fun personality, always looking up at you with a smile and ready to accompany you anywhere- a walk, car ride, nap, or just making sure you don’t have to go to the bathroom alone. And of course someone who will keep her toy basket full and doesn’t mind finding squeaky toys all over the house and continue her on her medication longterm. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Dottie in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Eliza! This young adult petite border collie mix is looking for a special person to continue her training and socialization. She is very fearful and distrustful of people until she bonds, but once she trusts is a fun high energy walking, hiking and jogging companion with her chosen buddy. She's fearful and avoids other dogs and is looking for a calmer experienced adult home with just one person she can bond to and protect. She loves to catch frisbees and play fetch and is a dog who needs a "job" to keep her mind busy and give her an appropriate outlet for her energy... no couch potatoes for this dog! Eliza is about 35lbs full grown and has the intelligence and energy of a border collie, with a bit more of the independent attitude of a shiba or spitz type breed. *Multiple meets required* Please submit an application for an appointment to meet her Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Age: 4yrs 7mths 4wks

Story
Brains, beauty, and loyalty in one package- That's our survivor Hannah! This compact 7 year old came to us as a pup originally after being hit by a car and left for dead with a fractured leg and pelvis. After a complicated surgery and rehab she made a full recovery and is an active healthy girl. Sadly due to changes in her adopters' living situation she is back at the shelter after years in a loving home, and she's very unhappy about it:/Hannah is a bit nervous and untrusting with new people, but after proper introductions and some yummy treats to win her over her sweet side shines through. She's very in tune to her people and their moods, and once you are in her circle of friends her loyalty and devotion is unmatched. She hasn't been socialized with other dogs and reacts when she sees them at a distance on leash, and a home where she can be the only pet and in a quieter low traffic living arrangement would be best for her. She knows her commands, is housebroken and well mannered in the house, and is about 50lbs full grown. We think she's border collie or cattle dog mixed with pittie, and she has the intelligence, energy, and playfulness of all 3 rolled into one little dog. Adults only please, she hasn't been around kids and they would frighten her. Please help Hannah find her perfect home and submit an application today for an appointment to meet her Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 58 Age: 7yrs 10mths 3wks

Story
These babies were turned into the rescue by a good person who just wanted them to have a chance at finding a good family to adopt them. The mama and babies were strays and the person that turned them in said they could take the mama but couldn't take the babies. So we offered to spay the mama in exchange for finding furever homes for the babies. They accepted. Who wouldn't want one of these cuties as a new family member? Can you just imagine having one of these beautiful puppies in your family? They are all very loving and playful. They will be fully vetted, Up to date on all shots, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. They are being fostered in TN but no worries because we transport using the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport. We transport every weekend alternating between the Northeast and the Midwest.

These pups are in Boonton, New Jersey too!

Story
This girl is pure love - all she wants is to give it and to get it in return. She absolutely adores her people and wants to be with them as much as possible. Those big beautiful brown eyes will look at you with so much love in them - she will make you feel like you are the most important person in her world. Tess is playful and full of life but she has a "chill" side, too, and loves just hanging out or watching TV with you.  Jessie's Girl aka "Tess" would make a great family pet in a home with kids, dogs and/or cats. She has a submissive and sweet personality that makes her totally lovable. She is a bit shy with new people and dogs but very friendly with absolutely no aggression. It may take her a short time to get used to her new home and people, but soon she will be your shadow & best friend! Who can resist those big chocolate-colored eyes, gazing up at you with love?  Soon you'll find yourself singing "Brown-Eyed Girl", too! Tess loves to play and go for walks - she also loves her toys. If you play with her with a Frisbee, ball, tug toy, or squeak toy she will be your BFF for life - she's also quite good at entertaining herself with a chew toy or a "squeakie"! Tess is very treat motivated so she's easy to train - she already knows Sit and Give Paw. And she takes those treats so gently! Tess loves being with her people so much that she would do best in a home where someone was around most of the time. Tess is 3 years old and weighs about 40 lbs. - she is full grown so she's "right sized" for just about any home situation. Tess is housetrained but as much as she loves going on walks, she prefers to do her "business" in a fenced-in yard. She's also terrific on a leash and a very good listener. Tess is great with dogs big and small, male and female - she currently lives with 4 other dogs & would love a doggie friend in her new home to play with. If you are interested in meeting Tess, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her "official" name, JESSIE'S GIRL TX!May 18, 2024, 6:47 pm

Story
CAMMIE is a sweet, calmer but playful 2 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Red Tick Hound mix who wants to please her humans. An adopter who will give her love, attention and spend time with her, including her in their lives, would be the best fit. She has a good calm medium energy level where she's up for adventures with her people but also knows how to relax at times. Cammie would be a great hiking, jogging and/or daily walking partner. She loves affection from her people, food and chasing squirrels.  Cammie is housetrained & crate trained. She is dog friendly, but also can be the only dog in your home. She is not a fan of other dogs around her food, but has no issues with people near her food. She is child friendly, but due to her playfulness and size, we are recommending older children. Cammie sleeps through the night on her own bed or in her crate in her foster's room. Cammie walks well on leash without pulling, but will need more work for off leash recall.  She's completely trustworthy left alone unattended outside of her crate!! Cammie rarely gets on the furniture, is not a jumper and does not have a hyper energy. She is not a big barker, but will alert you to strangers outside the house, especially if they have dogs with them.  Cammie is a quick learner, treat motivated and has picked up some basic commands 'sit, go home, no' and would be happy to learn more. Due to prey drive, she will not be adopted to a home with cats or small critters. Apartments can be considered if the adopter has an active lifestyle and will get her out for daily exercise. Cammie is 65 lbs, spayed. microchipped, up to date on vaccines, including rabies, heartworm negative and current on prevention.   Get your application in for Cammie and we can send you video and facetime with her and her foster family. If you are interested in adopting Cammie please email mkpeinado@yahoo.com. Her adoption fee is $300 and transport fee is $250.
