FOREVER HOME NEEDED!! Kubo came to us in 2020, and was adopted relatively quickly! Unfortunately, his owners could not handle Kubo and it led to them needing to return him. He was terrified upon being back at the kennel, a completely different dog than what had came to us originally. We found Kubo a wonderful foster home where he has been for 2 years! He never receives ANY interest We are now desperate. Kubo's foster is returning to work and will not have enough time to care for him. This poor boy needs his FOREVER home ASAP!!! Kubo is a very smart 5 year old cuddle bug. He LOVES to cuddle on his person and be around them. He has been undergoing training and has come such a long way. Kubo is good with other dogs but can be very vocal when seeing them outside which is part of what his training has consisted of. He would do amazing in a lower traffic home with adults/older teens If you are interested in Kubo, visit EHRDOGS.ORG and fill out an application for KUBOJune 14, 2024, 11:03 am

Story
Meet Dottie! Doesn’t she look trim and fit? 😳 Believe it or not, this is after already losing 5lbs since coming into our care a few weeks ago. Dottie was a whopping 35lbs on arrival, probably double her ideal weight! She looks like a giant chihuahua who ate 10 other chihuahuas, or a mini border collie someone put in a baler to compress into a compact little square for easy storage 🤣 Medical testing has revealed she does have an excuse for her severe obesity besides just clearly having access to all-you-can-eat buffets… she has Cushing’s disease which was causing her excess hunger as well as obsessive thirst. Luckily it’s easily treated and managed with daily pills longterm and regular bloodwork monitoring, and we are hopeful she will live a normal lifespan as long as she continues to lose weight and get back into good health. Dottie is a joyful happy little 8-10 year old “young at heart” senior. She’s great with other dogs and has always lived with them, very friendly with all people, a star patient at the vet, and loves playing with and fetching squeaky toys. We haven’t seen a mean bone in her squishy little body, or seen or felt any bones for that matter 🩻. She’s pretty active or at least wants to be- right now she tires easily and starts turning blue and snorting and grunting with any exercise or heat. But hopefully if her weight loss continues, by the end of the summer she will be in shape enough to enjoy some fall hikes and fun times with her new people. She would be a great addition to just about any home that will enjoy her infectious happiness and fun personality, always looking up at you with a smile and ready to accompany you anywhere- a walk, car ride, nap, or just making sure you don’t have to go to the bathroom alone. And of course someone who will keep her toy basket full and doesn’t mind finding squeaky toys all over the house and continue her on her medication longterm. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Dottie in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Meet Winter, a gentle and intelligent 1 year old pup whose journey began in Texas. Found as a tiny puppy abandoned in a box by the roadside, she was rescued and brought to New Jersey, where she was adopted in October. Unfortunately, Winter was recently returned to us when her family realized that the hustle and bustle of a busy household with young children was too much for this timid girl. She needs a quieter, calmer environment where she can truly thrive. Winter is very perceptive and quickly picks up on the energy around her. She enjoys the company of other dogs and may do well with a confident canine companion. We often use her as a dog tester as she is just so good with other pups. Winter isn't a fan of cats and considers them more of a game to chase. She's a kind-hearted dog with a gentle spirit who longs to be understood and loved for who she is. Winter will make a wonderful companion for anyone willing to invest the time to show her the world isn't so scary after all. If you can offer Winter the safe and loving home she is searching for, please visit ehrdogs.org and apply.June 14, 2024, 11:03 am

Story
Aiden is about 3 1/2 years old and 39 lbs. He LOVES to play and is fabulous with other dogs and children. Aiden is also very shy and skittish to start, though. He would do best with a low traffic, calm home and a confident dog buddy already in the house who could keep him company and a family that is able to socialize & train him. In the end, he would love a family of his own!  A note from Aiden himself- “Hi, I'm Aiden! I am a pup that loves all - humans and animals alike! I do need some time to warm up to new environments, but once I do, I am funny, quirky, and very playful!  I like finding cozy spots where I can nap and relax but also be able to see what is going on around me. I am curious and very observant. I enjoy getting pets (chin and ear scratches are my favorite!). I am picking things up very quickly from my foster humans and foster doggy brothers.  I am house and crate trained and I have EXCELLENT leash manners! I love a neighborhood walk and outdoor play time with other dogs. Running/galloping in enclosed areas puts me in my happy place .    I would do well in a home with other pup(s) that I can pick things up and gain confidence from. I am still a little shy at first, but am looking to break out of my shell and become a socialite.” Apply to adopt at EHRdogs.orgJune 14, 2024, 11:03 am

Story
Everyone that meets Daisy falls head over heels for her! Daisy absolutely LOVES everyone she meets and loves playing with doggie friends. She has good house manners being housebroken and she also walks great on a leash. She is 1 1/2 years old, 50 lbs, and is an all-around happy girl! Get your apps in on this girl if you're looking for a loyal, loving family member! When her home burned to the ground, Daisy ended up at a local shelter and no one from her family ever picked her up. When shelter workers discovered that Daisy was about to give birth, a kind lady took Daisy in so she would not have her babies in the shelter. After she had 5 beautiful babies, the lady returned Daisy and her puppies to the shelter. All her babies got adopted, but sweet Daisy is still waiting to find her forever home. Now it's Mama Daisy's turn to shine! If you'd like to meet Daisy and give her the happy ending her story deserves, please complete an adoption application at www.ehrdogs.org and be sure to ask for DAISY WILSON SCAS!June 14, 2024, 11:03 am
