Story
Meet Hanni   • Name: Hanni • Age: 2 years • Sex: Spayed Female • Breed: Border Collie Mix • Color: Black & White • Weight: 13 kg • Height (shoulder): 45 cm   Rescue Story In February 2025, Hanni and another dog were abandoned at a slaughterhouse by their owner. After the facility shut down, they were transferred to a municipal shelter. Hanni was rescued in March 2025 and has been preparing for her forever home ever since.   ‍‍ Social with People Hanni is incredibly affectionate and people-oriented. She happily approaches both familiar faces and strangers, leaning in for pets and attention without hesitation. She enjoys being held, shows her belly once comfortable, and loves physical affection.   She has been gentle with children around 13 years old, though she has not been tested with infants or toddlers.   In unfamiliar environments such as the vet, she may become nervous and resist handling—especially around sensitive areas like her hindquarters. However, in her foster home, she does very well with grooming, baths, nail trims, and daily care routines.   She loves interactive play with people, including tug and fetch, and truly thrives on human companionship.   Social with Other Dogs Hanni is curious and interested in other dogs, often wanting to approach and greet them during walks. She is currently learning to wait and practice better leash manners.   Because she can be a bit forward, she may come across as overly enthusiastic or “rude” to some dogs. She can be pushy with smaller dogs, so supervision is important. With larger dogs, she tends to be more respectful.   Once comfortable in an open environment, she plays well and currently coexists nicely with her foster dog. However, if provoked, she may engage in conflict, so careful introductions to new dogs are recommended.   With Cats Hanni shows curiosity toward cats during walks but follows her handler well when redirected. She may try to chase birds.   Energy Level As a Border Collie mix, Hanni has a higher-than-average energy level. She benefits greatly from regular outdoor exercise and mental stimulation such as training, games, or enrichment activities.   ‍ Walking & Exercise Hanni is currently working on loose-leash walking. She tends to pull, especially when excited or when she sees other dogs. She enjoys running more than slow walks and may vocalize (bark or make sounds) when excited.   Other Behaviors • No food guarding toward people or dogs • Eats well with no picky habits • Crate trained (eats and rests comfortably in crate) • Travels well, including long car rides • Rarely barks, but may bark when playing or seeking attention • Does not bark at visitors   Training Hanni knows: Sit Down Stay Paw Speak House (crate command)   She is smart, eager to engage, and will thrive with continued training and structure.   Ideal Home Hanni would do best with an active adopter who can match her energy and provide both physical exercise and mental stimulation. She will make a loving, fun, and devoted companion for someone ready to engage with her bright and energetic personality.   Hanni is full of love, energy, and potential—she just needs the right person to share her life with. Story
Say Hello to Julian! (Born 8/30/2024) he is 34 pounds of sweetness! We guess he might be a Smooth Coated Border Collie mix. Julian came to us from a situation where nervous energy surrounded him, and like the sensitive guy he is, he absorbed some of that. But good news! With patience, consistency, and plenty of encouragement (especially when treats are involved), he’s been making wonderful progress since arriving here. Understandably, city sounds and the hustle bustle are overwhelming to Julian, so we are looking for a home in a quieter area. Julian really enjoys treats, one on one time, playing with other dogs and we are seeking a home for him with a yard where he can stretch his long legs and enjoy the fresh air. We really appreciate that you want to give a shelter animal a home. The Humane Society of New York was founded in 1904. The Vladimir Horowitz/Wanda Toscanini Horowitz Adoption Center is a no-kill shelter. Our on-site clinic and staff of skilled Veterinarians looks after the health and well-being of every animal here. We also have a great adoption matchmaking team who will gladly take your profile and match you or your pet with just the right cat or dog companion. We start the process once you have submitted an application to us. FOR AN APPLICATION, please visit http://humanesocietyny.org/adoptions/ and download then email your application to hsny.adopt@gmail.com. Our one and only location is: 306 East 59th Street (between 1st & 2nd Avenue) in Manhattan. If you'd like to sponsor Julian, please email amk.hsny@verizon.net. You can give as much or as little as you like. Your donation is tax deductible. Thank you! For additional information on the Humane Society of New York, please visit: humanesocietyny.org. Thank you!

Story
Cheetos is a 9-month-old mixed breed boy with a gentle soul and the sweetest smile. Based on his look, he appears to be a Border Collie/spaniel-type mix, with a soft medium coat, expressive eyes, and a happy, loving personality. He’s still young, playful, and eager to bond with his people. Cheetos was sadly surrendered when his owner moved away and could not take him along. Because he previously lived in a home, he already understands home life and is used to being part of a family. Despite the change, he has remained incredibly affectionate, friendly, and trusting. He is wonderful with kids, gets along well with other dogs, and is also cat-friendly. Cheetos has a calm, loving temperament and enjoys attention, companionship, and being near people. He would thrive in a home where he can continue building confidence and receive the love he deserves. He is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, dewormed, and 4DX tested. Cheetos is also on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention (Simparica). Cheetos is currently waiting in the shelter, but we would love to bring him to New York on our next transport if we can secure either an adopter or a foster-to-adopt home for him. He’s ready for a second chance and a family to call his own. ❤️ To adopt Cheetos, please complete an application and email sosanimalwelfare@gmail.com.

Story
Raven -  1 year, 29lbs, Border Collie/Beagle Mix, Spayed  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn’t necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup.  Energy level:MEDIUM – Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet because this pup is brand new to us. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age carefully.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from Tennessee or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses. This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2730652##

Story
Location: Knoxville, TN   Meet Oakley!   Oakley is a 4 - year - old neutered male Australian Cattle Dog weighing about 40 pounds .  He is a beautiful red mixed with some blue and has the best ring tail ever! He is up to date on vaccines including canine influenza and is heartworm negative and currently on prevention.  Not a lot is known about his earlier history other than that he was a “farm dog” who likely had few outside life experiences.  Since coming into foster he has really come out of his shell and is a real sweetheart  with tons of potential!  Oakley has a high energy level.  He is very friendly to people although he is prone to jumping up (we are working on this).  H e walks well on and off leash – he doesn’t really know heel  yet  but he does not pull. He  naturally stays close and  has a totally rockstar recall.  He is dog  friendly  but his exuberant nature sometimes makes them afraid of him. He has done well with parallel walks with other dogs. He likes to swim and is not afraid to climb on agility equipment! We have done a bit  a jogging  together and he has been great. He has learned  sit  and has a pretty good  down   but we are still working on this.  He is good in the  house  and his housebreaking is almost there! He is a counter surfer though  and if left alone too long might chew !  But he is good in a crate!  He is food motivated but not as toy motivated. He is a total toy destroyer – if he can’t destroy  it  it ’s just not that fun! He is good around horses and goats  and does not bother them even when off leash .   He is good with cats after a supervised  introduction  but I wouldn’t trust him with chickens.  He does however display some strong herding instincts and when very  excited  will give a quick  playful cattle dog  nip to you.  His biggest problem is going in the car. He loves to get in the car and does not get carsick. However, when the car is  moving  he barks – something else that we are working on .  Oakley had some fly strike on both ears when he came into rescue. The open sores have healed but he has  some hair loss on the back of his ears at the tip  that I believe will be permanent – it is barely  noticeable. He does have some chipped incisors which do not bother him at all  currently  but may require extraction in the future. Oakley loves attention and is looking for his forever home  with his person .  He has so much potential with continued training and interaction. He is fostered in Knoxville, TN . Please reach out to his foster home at  m_trogdon@hotmail.com  with any questions about Oakley or to arrange a meet and greet .  Complete an Application: https://search.app/x6VdVLYHVyXCqR9G7       March 8, 2026, 5:40 pm

Story
Location: Reinholds, PA   Hello, my name is Lincoln, but they call me Link for short. I am a very playful and energetic cattle dog puppy who is approximately 5 months old. I came from Georgia where a family had too many dogs and they reached out to the rescue for help. My foster mama saw me and thought I was cute, so now I am in PA and boy is it cold, but I do love running around in this snow! I love to play with my foster sister who is a JRT, see me on the chair with her in the pictures? I also try to get my very old foster sister who is a cattle dog to play, but she doesn't like it so usually I just walk away, but sometimes I will bark at her to tell her how upsetting it is that she won't play with me. Anyway, enough about that old grump. I live with 2 human kids, and I am starting to chase them when they run (I think they need to be herded). I like to fetch and play tug with toys. I would love to go to a home where my people take me to training class, exercise me regularly, and engage with me mentally as well. Link's foster mom here:  Link is wicked smart, energetic, and a typical cattle dog puppy. He is starting to learn that people are not chew toys and is progressing with potty training with a schedule. He does sleep through the night in the bed. The crate is not his favorite place, but he will go in with high-value treats tossed in. The longest he has been crated is 4 hours and if you want to adopt him you need to have a solid plan in place if you work outside of the home. He needs structure and may be a dog sport candidate as he is very handler focused and biddable (for a puppy). He knows the following commands: sit, down, come, go potty, drop it, and touch. He is fairly solid with all of them. He is up to date with vaccines and will be adopted out with a neuter contract. He is being fostered in Reinholds, PA. If you have questions regarding Link, please email m_kellerrn@yahoo.com   Complete an Application: https://www.acdra.org/adoption-application March 8, 2026, 5:40 pm

Story
Location: Wilmington, DE     Preston is a male cattle dog mix. He is currently about three months old (born early February) and weighs about 15 lbs. He is being fostered with his siblings Prissy and Percy. Unlike his siblings he has a unique look. I sometime call him Fraggle because the name reminds me of a Fraggle character. He is medium energy and has a calm demeanor. Housetraining is going smoothly. He does everything with his siblings. He is being fostered with our five adult dogs. They are crated when unsupervised and sleep together at night. He should be with an active family with a fenced yard.      He is current on all age appropriate vaccinations and flea and tick and Heartworm preventatives and is microchipped. He will be adopted with a neuter contract    Please keep in mind that puppies require a huge commitment. The adopter will be responsible for the neuter that will need to be done at six months.     If interested learning more about Preston feel free to contact his foster mom Joan at ohdgarden@comcast.net    He is being fostered in Wilmington, Delaware and preferred to meet potential adopter in close proximity of my home.     Complete an Applicaion:  https://www.acdra.org/adoption-application                May 18, 2026, 12:10 pm
