Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi there... I'm Dixie. I'm quite literally the best girl, according to the staff and volunteers here at the rescue. About me: I LOVE the water—I could swim all day! I'm fully potty and house trained, and I'll even let you know when I need to go outside by crying at the door. I walk nicely on a leash and absolutely love playing fetch (at least until my age catches up with me!). I get along wonderfully with other dogs, know my name, and have excellent recall. Here at the rescue, I even enjoy off-leash walks because I stay close and always come back when I'm called. I am a quiet, gentle soul looking for a forever home to call my own. While I may be a little older, I still enjoy playing with my toys and spending time with other dogs when the mood strikes. My journey here has been quite the adventure. During a big storm, the local fire department found me in the water and brought me to the rescue. They later realized they had actually been trying to catch me for months, believing I was a stray. But it turns out I wasn't always on my own. I once had a loving owner, but after he passed away, I was given away because his mother was no longer able to care for me due to her own health challenges. I'm already spayed, fully vaccinated, 4DX tested (positive for heartworm), and up to date on my ProHeart 12 and Bravecto. I am heartworm positive right now, but I’ve already started treatment. I’ve been on antibiotics and am going through the ProHeart 12 protocol approved by the American Heartworm Society. The good news is that with this treatment, I should test negative in about 8–10 months. My adoption fee is $250, and you can apply to adopt me at www.adoggie4you.org. I'm currently in Texas, but I can travel to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington (Kentucky), and locations along the East Coast for an additional $250 transport fee. Due to state regulations, I cannot be transported to Rhode Island or Massachusetts.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 3, 2026, 5:35 pm

Story
Space is a 9 month old medium size dog. She loves other dogs and has done well with cats. Space needs a special adopter that will give her time to realize people aren’t so scary. She has made a TON of progress at her foster home but is still very timid at times. She gets SO excited to see you after work but still only wants to be pet on her own terms. She will do best in a home with no children, another dog to help build her confidence, and her own yard, as she is not leash trained. She is very fearful of the leash, leading us to believe she may have had a traumatic experience involving a leash before coming to HART. This dog absolutely loves to be comfy. All she wants is a comfortable bed or to curl up by your feet on the couch. If you’re looking for a playmate for your dog that does not beg for constant attention or a friend to keep your dog busy while you’re at work, Space could be a great choice for you. If interested in meeting Space please fill out an application at www.rescueahart.org!

Story
Maximus is named after my youngest son. My mom received “Max” from her coworker. He wanted to make sure Maximus had a good home. At first Maximus and I would travel and explore all the great parks and everyday was an adventure unfortunately, for us work has picked up for me. I don’t spend nearly as much time with him as I used to. It makes me sad & I can only imagine how he feels. Max is playful, friendly, smart and is such a sweetheart. He listens but could use more training. If you’re patient and willing to put in the time he’ll do great. I haven’t quite mastered walking him without a leash, he likes people too much. Whether it’s to give warnings or to bum affection he loves others! Max is about 2 y/o now and his birthday is in Spring. He’s gotten some vaccines and he’s up-to-date on his rabies shots (had a wellness plan for him at Banfield Newport + Oakley). Received training at Petsmart. Looking for a loving home, preferably with a yard so he can run around freely :)

Story
Hello, fantastic friends! I'm Vader, a 3-year-old with a heart of gold, celebrating my birthday on Dec. 5th! 🎉 Here's a glimpse into why I'm the perfect fit for your loving family: I'm a cuddle connoisseur, belly rub enthusiast, and expert kisser. Treats make my tail wag, and I'm a smart, gentle soul eager to please my new family. A certified conversationalist, I'll gaze into your eyes as we share our thoughts. Rescued with my brother Celery after a West Virginia tornado, my foster parents adored us. While they can only keep one of us due to some sibling logistics, I come with heaps of love, ready to capture your heart. I'm an 65lb Border Collie German Shepherd mix, currently living harmoniously with two fabulous female dogs. I'm open to meeting more furry friends, with a preference for females. Cats, however, aren't my cup of tea. Dreaming of a bustling home with kids and furry companions, a fenced-in yard or a sprawling farm would be ideal. I'm a Gary's Professional Dog Grooming and Training graduate, well-behaved, crate-trained, and ready to learn more. A bit of extra training won't hurt, but patience is my forte. I may need a gentle reminder for commands like "off," but my excitement is just a friendly jump. Seeking a loving, playful, and gentle giant? That's me! Let's embark on this journey together. If interested in meeting Vader please fill out an application at www.rescueahart.org.

DNA Results Are In! 🧬🐾 The DNA results are officially in for the “Golden Girls”—and they definitely have an interesting family tree! 😂 Mom was a German Shepherd, and Dad was a traveling salesman… haha! Apparently, Dad got around because his DNA is a wild mix of Corgi, Border Collie, Chihuahua, and several other breeds. That boy was all mixed up! 🤣 But the best news of all? Their DNA results revealed no identified genetic health defects. These pups are happy, healthy, and absolutely perfect just the way they are! ❤️ Now that we know a little more about their family history, who’s ready to make one of these Golden Girls & Boy part of their family? 🐾💛 Meet Stanley! 🩵 Stanley is a tiny, wispy little guy who looks like he’ll grow into a handsome dog with German Shepherd-like features and a soft, fluffy coat. He’s the perfect mix of playful and affectionate. Stanley loves romping around with his sister, Sophia, and the two are almost always together, whether they’re playing, exploring, or getting into adorable puppy antics. When playtime is over, he’s more than happy to climb into your lap for cuddles and soak up all the attention. Stanley is also very food-motivated, making him an eager candidate for training. With his sweet personality, loving nature, and playful spirit, he’s sure to make a wonderful companion for a lucky family.

"She ran calling "WILD.....FIRE"!! That is a haunting song.... I promise, though..I am not a HAUNTER!! But I may love to run around and around and AROUND :) I am a puppy! I am so sweet and cuddly, when i finish running around ;) I have plenty of energy so you HAVE to be ready to burn it off with mental and physical exercise. I am SMART too! Teach me who you want me to be and I will learn! I was found with 4 siblings living (dumped) at the Home Depot...but it was a LUCKY BREAK, cause we were seen by the husband of a rescuer and we got SAVED! Now I am in my foster home and learning the "ropes" ;) Potty training is getting better every day, I mean our foster mom takes us out often for potty control and I am really working hard to wait for the next jaunt outside! I also am crate training too! I don't like to pee or poop where I sleep- as long as I don't eat right before bed and go outside as soon as I wake up I am doing great!! I seriously am ready for my family, I LOVE to play and am great with all dogs big, small, old or babies. AND i have one half BLUE EYE!! The better to see you with, my new family! :) ADOPT ME SOON!! Story
Now, before we go any further into my story.... let me warn you...it contains heartache and then some puppies, and fear and even some hopelessness. We do go to the top of the mountain as well, so hold in for the wild ride of my life:) maybe you will get to be my happily ever after.... So I was born a poor border collie mixed pup, in the miserable heat, in a disgusting backyard. To a mama that could have been so beautiful, if she had been brushed and cared for.... Fast forward thru almost 4 YEARS of misery and puppies, we were saved!!! I was saved with 9 newborn puppies and my sister/daughter/ cousin, etccc Princess and HER 9 PUPPIES TOO! We landed safe and sound at the rescue! We are now gorgeous girls and all pups grown and adopted! Now its time for me!! I am a single gal, and really don't like other dogs in my business. I want to be the Queen of the house :D Adopt me and I will fill YOUR home with my love and devotion. Story
Meet Wiley! Wiley is an approximately 1.5 year old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix (best guess) with a happy personality and a very smart mind. He is an active boy who is always ready for his next adventure and would thrive with a family that understands the needs of intelligent working breeds. Wiley is high energy and will need a breed knowledgeable owner committed to continuing his training and providing both mental and physical stimulation. He is eager to learn and already does pretty well on a leash. With consistency and structure, Wiley has the potential to become an incredible companion. He would do best with an active family that enjoys walks, outdoor activities, training, and keeping their dogs engaged. Wiley is the kind of dog who wants to be involved in life right alongside his people. Wiley is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and preventions. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Blaze! Blaze has spent most of his life waiting for a family to call his own. He came to rescue in March 2024 as a young puppy after being removed from a hoarding situation in Bandera County. Not long after arriving, Blaze and his siblings faced another challenge when they contracted Parvo. Thankfully, Blaze proved to be a fighter and made a full recovery. Today, Blaze is a happy, healthy dog with a fun-loving personality and a heart of gold. He loves everyone he meets and is always ready for an adventure. Whether he's splashing around in the water, playing with his favorite toys, or heading out for a walk, Blaze is happiest when he's spending time with people. Despite growing up in rescue, Blaze hasn't let that dampen his spirit. He's affectionate, playful, and eager to be part of a family. He walks well on a leash, enjoys swimming, and has the kind of easygoing personality that makes him a joy to be around. Blaze is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, 4DX negative, and current on ProHeart 12 and Bravecto. Apply to adopt at www.adoggie4you.org. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Introducing Jade, a sweet dog with a heart full of love. Jade, along with her siblings, endured a challenging hoarding situation in Bandera County where they all battled and triumphed over Parvo through dedicated treatment. Jade has been with us at the rescue since she was a puppy. She has grown up with our volunteers and staff, unfamiliar with what a family home feels like. Jade is a very playful, loving, and energetic dog. She needs correction on basic commands and manners, like, to not jump. She doesn't realize her size, and because of this, she may knock over little kids.  Jade gets along with all people she meets, and loves to play with other dogs.  Jade's adoption fee is $200, which covers her vetting expenses and ensures she is ready to be a cherished member of her new family. If you're ready to provide Jade with the love and care she deserves, you can apply for her adoption at www.adoggie4you.org. Give Jade the chance to bring endless love and joy into your life.   This dog is currently in Texas; however, it can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington KY or all along the East Coast. If transported, there is an additional transport fee of $250   . We do not transport to Rhode Island or Massachusetts due to their regulations.
