Story
Potter is an absolute doll. This 4-5 year old easy going guy has been through so much. He was found wondering the streets as a stray on a hot summer day. He seemed confused and disoriented. After a perfect health check at the vet, he sat in his small kennel in the tiny rural shelter waiting for his people find find come for him, but they never came. Potter must have had a home. He behaves perfectly in his foster home. He is fully potty trained. And while he prefers not to have to go in the crate, he lays in there quietly if he is asked to. He is extremely food motivated and a bit underweight (he's about 55lbs and should be closer to 60), so he needs a little support in the begining to make sure he doesn't get into anything he's not supposed to. Potter also walks nicely on the leash. He does have a habit of orbiting around his person, but with a little positive reinforcement and treats, he picks up on how he's supposed to walk quickly. Potter would love a home where he can be with his humans for the most part of the day. He would love a family who would snuggle with him and give him lots of love. While he has not lived with another dog that we know of, he's done well greeting every dog he's met on walks. If you live in DC/MD/NoVa and looking for a companion to fill your retired years, or a sidekick who is ready for an adventure, Potter is the perfect candidate for either of those. Please fill out an application for him on our website to begin the adoption process: https://forms.gle/JZJqBN9q8Lkiyx188

Story
Maggie loves everything as long as she’s with someone. She loves people! Her cuddling and affection makes her very special. If Maggie was an object she would be a Teddy Bear because she is just a super cuddly and enjoys physical touch. She enjoys sticking her head out the window, when driving, and biting the wind. She tends to run around and spin a lot when excited and happy. She also snores a bit when sleeping. She LOVES cuddling and sleeping in bed with her foster family. She constantly needs someone to be touching her but she does have her down time where she sleeps on the couch while we are doing stuff around the house. She doesn’ t know her size and is a huge lap dog. Her foster mom says that Maggie gets at least 2 compliments a day when we take her out for walks because of how beautiful she is. She’s a very unique dog in terms of how much affection she gives all the time. Ready to add this silly pup to your home? Ordelia is funny, loyal, and very sweet. She makes a loveable companion. Ordelia loves her humans and enjoys following them around the house very interested in whatever you are doing. She does love to snuggle and will settle down next to you while you`re working, reading a book or to binge watch your favorite tv shows! She loves playing ball but her rope toy is her favorite. Ordelia also loves walks, sniffing is one of her favorite pastimes. Ordelia does have a few quirks. She loves greeting humans but she does so with a loud `hello` bark -- she has one volume generally speaking and it can be off putting to some folks at first.  Another quirk is that when on walks, Ordelia is overly interested in other dogs. Sometimes it seems as if she wants to play and others she seems protective. She also LOVES kids but does not like strollers!? We can say, if you are looking for a cute and reliable companion – Ordelia is your gal.

Story
Meet Netta, a sweet and low-maintenance companion who knows the value of a good nap and a belly rub! She’s fully housetrained, sleeps soundly through the night, and loves nothing more than curling up on the couch with her favorite human—her ideal day is simply being near her person, getting up occasionally just to check in and make sure you’re still there.Netta enjoys leisurely walks, taking in all the scents along the way, and she walks nicely on a collar. Just be prepared for a burst of excitement if a squirrel, rabbit, or other critter crosses her path—her inner hunter definitely wakes up! In the yard, she’s content to sniff around and take care of business before heading back inside to relax.Netta rides great in the car and settles in easily for the journey. Netta would thrive with someone who is home often and can give her the consistency and companionship she craves. She has some adorable quirks too—like her little “tap dance” when she wants attention—and even surprised everyone by discovering she can swim after an unexpected dip in the pool! With her expressive white eyebrows and slow, easygoing nature (think sloth vibes!), Netta has the charm of a wise old soul. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who will remind you to slow down and enjoy life’s little moments, Netta is your girl!

No, not the fruit—but she is just as sweet and guaranteed to make you smile! This goofy girl loves playing with her favorite toys. Disks are her jam, and—if she feels like it—she might even bring them back. She’s still deciding if returning the ball is truly necessary (we respect her creative process).Banana is the life of the party; she knows when to play hard and when to just chill out. Don’t get it twisted, though—she’ll still politely demand her signature butt scratches (that’s her favorite spot). She’s a total people pleaser with a heart as golden as her name. Banana also knows sit and shake.Come meet this lovable goofball today and see why everyone’s shouting, “Baaanaaanaa!” when they meet her!Find more pictures of Bananaaaaaaa here: https://tinyurl.com/AdoptableBanana

Story
We adopted Bella from North Carolina. She was removed from her home because her previous owners were using her to have babies. When we got her, she was very shy, and she would not play. Today she is the sweetest girl you can ever meet; she loves walks and loves to chase squirrels and ducks. She is potty trained. I would love to keep her; unfortunately, where we live, we cannot keep her. She needs a place where she can run and play.

Story
We were contacted by a local shelter about a SUPER emaciated pittie. He was essentially a dog shaped skeleton wrapped under a thin coat of fur. He landed on the urgent list at a local shelter thin, hungry, and alone and was near the end of his time. As luck would have it, his sad face caught the eye and heart of his foster, and he was given a lifeline as a result of his foster opening up her home to him. His foster gave him a new name to start his new life with, Rusty. At his core, he is a bundle of love and a total a people dog. All 75 pounds of him exists to be near his humans. Whether you are on the couch watching television, sitting at the kitchen table, or just passing through the hallway, Rusty will find you, position himself as close as physically possible, and let out a long, satisfied sigh that says he is exactly where he belongs. He does not ask for much only that you be nearby. Cddles are not optional in Rusty's world. If you settle onto the couch without making room for him, he will let you know through gentle, persistent whining that an adjustment is needed. Once you make space, he melts right in, and all is well. Rusty is about 3-4 years old and he is wonderful in SO many ways. His one kryptonite is food. Given his past, he has a complicated relationship with food and water. It makes sense as when you have gone without for so long, it becomes something you crave. Rusty has deemed the toilet as a known water source. He will drink from it with gusto, tail wagging the entire time. The solution is simple and non-negotiable: keep your bathroom doors closed. A simple closed lid will not do. He will help himself to lifting the lid and you will hear the slurping and see the tail in no time. Rusty patrols kitchens and monitors countertops with the dedication of a seasoned professional. He will watch every bite you take with wide, hopeful eyes and appoint himself your permanent food quality inspector. Rusty wakes up thinking about food. His internal alarm is impeccable, and he will make absolutely certain that his breakfast does not slip your mind. The moment that bowl is filled and emptied, he is more than happy to climb back into bed and spend the next hour cuddled up beside you, warm and perfectly content. Walks are an adventure. Rusty is strong, enthusiastic, and has very clear opinions about where he would like to go (aka wherever he smells food!). Leash manners are a work in progress, and he will need a patient, committed adopter who is willing to put in the training time. He is smart, and he wants to please. He just needs someone who believes in him enough to show him the way. Rusty's ideal home is one where someone is around most of the day, someone who loves to cuddle, and someone who has the patience to work through training with him. He needs humans with a good sense of humor who will laugh rather than despair the first time they hear suspicious sounds coming from the bathroom. He is a dog who has known real hardship, and now all he wants is to give all of his love to one person, or one family, for the rest of his life. Rusty is ready to be your whole heart. Story
ADOPT ACOYEE! Acoyee is a mature and wise man. At 8 years of age, he's technically a senior who knows a thing or two about life, but still got the spunk in his steps! This 65lbs happy pup is affectionate and loves his scratches. He turns and leans into your body to show and receive the love he craves. His foster described him as a super chill pup who is content to nap while you're doing stuff around the house. He is a great walker and loves to go on walks, but he is a bit reactive on the leash to other dogs and wildlife. He is perfectly potty trained, not a fan of the crate, and LOVES to learn new tricks. He knows the basics like sit, paw and speak. And he also knows some advanced things like going to fetch his leash when it's time for a walk! He loves to pull toys for a good game of tug of war. Stuffed toys won't last very long with him, he likes to tear them apart. The cattle dog in him is FIERCELY loyal. Like most cattle dogs, he certainly has a good amount of stranger danger. But once you take some time to earn his trust and you're in his circle of trust, he will be your best friend for life. He will do best in a quiet home in a quiet area without a lot of comings and goings, with a fenced in yard, and without another dog. If you live in DC/MD/NoVa and wish to ask Acoyee to join your family, please fill out an application for him on our website to begin the process: https://forms.gle/GYHWGHiHCbxqZJae6
