Meet Billy — The Sweetest Little Fighter If you remember Billy came to us on the brick of death after he was found abandoned and on his own trying to survive. He spent a lot of the first couple weeks fighting and honestly, we weren’t sure he would make it. But he did and now he is thriving!! Billy was diagnosed with Hypoparathyroidism which effects the breakdown of calcium, good news it is very treatable with just a pill a day! Even better the pills are very affordable! Now that Billy is healthy, he is ready to find his forever family. Billy is a 1–3-year-old, 35-pound Boxer mix with a heart as big as his goofy grin. He may be mostly blind and deaf, but don’t let that fool you — this boy is brave, determined, and full of life. Billy navigates the world with curiosity, sweetness, and a whole lot of courage. Billy is still working on potty training and learning the layout of his foster home, but he tries so hard and improves every day. His disability hasn’t slowed down his determination — he’s truly a little fighter with a huge heart. Billy would do great in a patient, loving home that understands his special needs and appreciates his courage and resilience. He gets along well with other animals and would thrive in a calm environment with people who are ready to cheer him on as he continues to learn and grow. I even graduated from a 7-week basic obedience class (I’m pretty proud of that!) and my awesome foster keeps helping me learn new things every day so I can be the best doggo I can be. I’ve got a big personality — loving, loyal, and just the right amount of sassy. I’m not a fan of cats, and I can be a bit particular about other dogs, so I’d probably do best as your one and only pet. But trust me, I’ve got enough love to fill your whole home! Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! My foster Mom tells me I'm a shy but sweet, eager to please girl that loves to PLAY, so I NEED another large active dog in my new home! I also love playing with toys and chewing on nylabones, but I REALLY love running through the back yard. I get along with my 4-legged foster siblings, and I would do best with a submissive, tolerant male dog that really enjoys playing. I really need a similar size very active dog in the home. Due to my activity level, I'm too much for a smaller dog. I'm a young lady with a LOT of energy to burn and need a back yard in my forever home or a very active person that likes to walk or hike on a regular basis. And I can jump really high so a 6 foot fence would be ideal.
