Story
Our compassionate New Mexico rescuers saved the life of this very sweet and irresistible Chihuahua mix with hopes of transporting him to Colorado for a new and wonderful life. We're uncertain exactly what Alfie's history was or how he landed at a scary New Mexico shelter, but what we do know is that this little guy won the hearts of so many. Alfie's cuteness and the power of his very happy, social, sweet and loving personality motivated his rescuers to save his precious life. This irresistible pup is now safe and sound (and so happy) awaiting his transport to a wonderful new life in Colorado. Alfie is a 5-year-old, 14 lb Chihuahua / Rat Terrier mix who’s full of love and personality! This happy little guy is always wagging his tail and greeting everyone he meets with a tail wag. He’s super friendly and loves making new friends wherever he goes. From Alfie's foster: * * * * “Alfie is such a great little guy. He is friendly, happy, wiggly, and seriously always wagging his tail. He adores people and greets strangers with excited wiggles. He gets along well with both of my dogs and really enjoys being part of the pack. In the home he is a polite, sweet housemate and loves nothing more than cuddling up and being close. I do want to be honest about who Alfie is so we can make sure his adoptive home is truly his forever home. I don’t think he was treated kindly in his past, and he can be sensitive about certain things because of it. Alfie is very food- and treat-protective, both with other dogs and with humans. If another dog walks by while he’s eating, he can react, and he has nipped when someone reaches for his food or chews. Because of this, I feed him in a crate and keep chews separate — this routine works great for him, and he relaxes and does really well with structure. I think he likely had to scavenge / fight for his food previously and this stems from that. He also has some leash reactivity with other dogs. He is good in the home with my dgs, but on walks he gets a bit talkative when he sees other dogs and can bark or pull because he wants to make sure they know he’s there. For such a small guy, he is surprisingly strong! He’ll thrive with someone who has a good handle on a leash and is willing to continue working with him. The good news is he’s totally social with dogs once the initial excitement passes, especially with dogs his size or smaller. He just needs an experienced dog owner. He is not scary or mean, he is actually an INCREDIBLY sweet, sweet dog. Alfie is very very loving, affectionate, and sweet. Once he trusts you, he just wants to be your little shadow and soak up all the love you’ll give him. He’s goofy, cuddly, sensitive, and so eager to bond. He has a safe place with me until the right, experienced adopter comes along—someone who understands his quirks, can give him structure, and will let him blossom into the wonderful dog he truly is.” * * * * Farfel's Rescue would like to see Alfie in a home with an active retiree or someone who works from home. Alfie is much to social to be left alone for long hours while his person works outside of the home. Alfie has been fully vetted and vaccinated to fulfill Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support our work toward a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. If interested in this cute, cuddly and very loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE**. If you're truly interested in adopting Alfie please be sure to submit the Farfel's Rescue adoption application that can be found at the link above or at farfels.com. Rescue site applications such as Petfinder or Adoptapet don't provide enough information for us to determine a great match for this very deserving dog and therefore aren't useful. We're sorry, but in many circumstances, we're unable to get back to those those that don't submit a Farfel's adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue!

Story
** If you are interested in adopting Berry, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Meet Berry! Berry is an adorable 1 year old, 13 lb Chihuahua mix. This tiny girl had a rough start — she was found as a stray on the streets of Houston with a small healing scar on her forehead. We can only imagine what this petite sweetheart endured out there, but those days are far behind her now. Berry can be a bit shy when she first meets new people, but she warms up very quickly and is the sweetest little thing. She’s a total lovebug who just wants to be close and soak up kindness. From Berry's foster: * * * * "We love Berry! She gets along so well with our 3 dogs, she’s indifferent to our cat, and she seems potty trained! She is a HUGE snuggler! She is extremely affectionate with us - she always wants to snuggle on the couch and get lots of loving. She loves burrowing under blankets. We do have three dogs that she has been great with. She is usually not initiating the playfulness, but when our dogs start to play, she will run around in the backyard with them. She can be a bit of the fun police when other dogs start playing too rough, but she gets along great with them overall and is all about a calmer, more mellow dog vibe than rowdy play. She loves squeaky toys and is learning how to play fetch and play around the house with our dogs. We love her personality - she’s been amazing. She goes in a crate when we leave the home and at first she chewed the blankie up a little bit that was in her crate with her, so we leave toys with her in her crate now so she doesn't get bored. She’s already opened up so much in just a week being with us - she was a little timid at first but is getting more and more comfortable and showing her wonderful personality." * * * * Berry is up to date on her vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is spayed. Farfel's Rescue and our New Mexico rescue partners would love to see Berry in a home with an individual, family (older kids are preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet dog. We'd hate to see her left alone all day while her family works full-time outside of the home, as she is much too social for that type of arrangement. We'd like to place Berry in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Story
Meet Agnes!  At just 6 pounds, Agnes may be tiny—but her heart is full of potential. This petite Chihuahua is a sweet soul who blossoms with time, patience, and love. Once she feels safe, Agnes reveals her snuggly, playful side and will happily curl up beside you or bounce around with joy. Agnes is currently working on her potty training and socialization, and she’s making steady progress with the help of her foster family. She’s already kennel trained and finds comfort in having a cozy space to call her own. She thrives when she’s near her people and would do best in a calm, adult-only home where she can continue building confidence at her own pace. Agnes has a soft spot for her canine companion, Edith, and while they’re somewhat bonded, we believe Agnes could also thrive as a solo pup in the right home. What she needs most is someone who understands that trust takes time—and is willing to continue her training journey with kindness and consistency. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who just needs a chance to shine, Agnes might be your perfect match. If you're interested in meeting her please fill out an application at www.thegooddogrescue.org (If you already have an approved application, please email thegooddogrescueadoptions@gmail.com with your interest in me!) Her adoption fee is $300 and she is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations ##2555725##

Story
Meet Edith!   Edith is a delicate blend of Chihuahua and Chinese Crested charm, with a quiet spirit and a heart that’s learning to trust. She’s more independent than her buddy Agnes, but don’t let that fool you—Edith has a soft spot for snuggles once she feels safe. This shy girl is still working on her socialization, and she’s making gentle progress every day. She’s kennel trained and finds comfort in routine, especially when paired with a calm, confident canine companion. Edith absolutely loves going for walks—it’s her favorite way to explore the world and build confidence at her own pace. Edith would thrive in a home with another dog who’s patient and tolerant, someone who can model social behavior and help her feel secure. A quieter household without children would be ideal, giving her the space and stability she needs to continue blossoming. If you’re someone who understands that trust takes time and are ready to offer Edith the gentle guidance she deserves, she’ll reward you with quiet loyalty and tender moments that feel truly special. If you're interested in meeting her please fill out an application at www.thegooddogrescue.org (If you already have an approved application, please email thegooddogrescueadoptions@gmail.com with your interest in her!) Her adoption fee is $300 and she will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations prior to adoption ##2555726##

Story
He’s been waiting forever for his rainbow, will you be his wonderful world?   Meet Max, the sweetest little Rat-Cha gentleman you’ll ever meet. At around 13 years old, Max is a gentle soul who loves nothing more than curling up in a blanket on the couch, snoozing in bed, or following his foster mom around like a loyal shadow. He’s even claimed the guest room as his personal nap spot!  Max was diagnosed with a heart condition and takes two inexpensive medications twice a day. Thanks to his meds, he hopefully will enjoy two more wonderful years filled with love, snuggles, and cozy naps.  This little guy would thrive in a quiet home where he can live out his golden years surrounded by comfort and care. He gets along beautifully with well behaved dogs and cats, making him a lovely companion. With only a few teeth left, he’s perfectly content being spoiled with soft food and extra gentle love.  Max may be a special case, but he’s truly a special guy. Could you be the one to give him the forever home he deserves?  Follow his journey at @skihousepets ##2287856##

Story
Meet Greg. He is a five pound bundle of personality. Greg is searching for a lap. He is looking for someone who is home most of the time where he can snuggle into that lap…all day long.  Greg does not like to be left alone! He does enjoy being outside with his person when the sun is shining. He is not crazy about snow and cold. Greg  likes to play with little toys and balls.  He likes anything he can chew. And he is a great eater. Greg is ok with SMALL  dogs. Bigger dogs play too rough for him. He would also love to be an only child. Like most chihuahuas Greg is stubborn and opinionated. He cries when he doesn’t get his way. And he is a talker. He is house trained when taken outside frequently. He will not ask to go outside. But he is working on it. And handsome? Greg is a beautiful gray blue apple head chihuahua. If you are looking for a Velcro dog to dote on he may fit the bill.  ##2567520##
