Story
Buddy is the kind of little dog that quietly works his way into your heart. He is about 2 years old, under 20 pounds, and appears to be a Chihuahua/JRT mix. Buddy used to live in a real home with his owner until his owner went to prison and he ended up dumped at a small rural shelter. It is very obvious that Buddy misses being someone’s little companion. Despite all the instability in his life, Buddy has remained an incredibly sweet and affectionate little dog. He can be shy at first, but once he settles in, he becomes very loving and attached to his people. One thing to know about Buddy is that he is sensitive to yelling, harsh energy, or movements that make him think he may be in trouble. The animal control officer suspects that the family member caring for him after his owner went to prison may have been rough with him, so now he sometimes flinches or briefly worries when someone moves toward him quickly or in a way that feels confrontational, even if they are not interacting with him directly. Outside of that, Buddy is not a nervous or unstable dog at all. He enjoys affection, likes being part of the household, and settles in nicely once he realizes he is safe. Buddy is great with other dogs and cats, even kittens. One thing that stands out about him is how balanced he is socially. He is not one of those little dogs that constantly tries to dominate bigger dogs, but he is also not fearful around them. He simply coexists peacefully and confidently. Buddy would do best in a calmer home where he can fully relax back into normal life and remember what it feels like to simply be loved and safe again. Good fit: someone patient and gentle looking for a small companion dog that wants stability, kindness, and real connection. Adoption process: All adoptions are completed prior to transport. Dogs are picked up at designated transport locations. If an adoption doesn’t work out (rare, but life happens), we always take our dogs back. Location: Oklahoma (available to approved out-of-state adopters via transport) Health: Fully vetted (spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested) Adoption fee: $500 (includes transport + vetting) Transport routes: WA, OR, ID, MT, UT, WY, CO, MN, WI, IA, IL, IN, OH, PA, MD, NY, NJ, VT Think you might be a good fit? Story
Meet Cisca! A Gentle Soul Looking for a Quiet, Loving Home Cisca is a sweet, tender-hearted Chihuahua who is ready to find her haven.  She came to our rescue after her previous owner, overwhelmed, arrived with five other Chihuahuas.  Coming from a crowded home, the transition has been a lot for her, but she is ready to blossom with the right family. Cisca's Details Breed: Chihuahua Age: One year old Sex: Female Medical Status: [e.g., Spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines]   Personality & Progress Like her rescue siblings, Cisca has been very scared of new sounds and unfamiliar people.  However, she is bravely starting to come out of her hard shell!  She is realizing that she wants attention and is slowly showing her affectionate side.   Her Ideal Home Emma needs a patient, peaceful environment to decompress and feel truly secure. A Quiet Environment: A calm household without loud noises, heavy foot traffic, or unpredictable activity is essential. Patient Humans: Her new family must be willing to go at her pace, allowing her to build trust day by day without forcing interaction. She would do well with another confident, small dog to show her the ropes! Please fill out an application. If you have any questions or would like to meet him, please call or text 720-588-6809. ##2755864##

Story
"Some Wilburs capture hearts in storybooks. This Wilbur is hoping to capture your heart in real life. At just 1-2 years old and 15 pounds, Wilbur has already overcome more than most dogs ever should after being rescued from a hoarding situation. These days, he is discovering that life can be full of cozy beds, kind people, and yummy treats. He is still working on learning that human hands can be a source of love instead of something to fear. If you’ve ever had a soft spot for the quiet shy ones, this little guy is sure to steal your heart. Wilbur’s foster family says that he is the total package. He’s house-trained, free roam trustworthy when left home alone, and loves his daily walks. He’s also a smart boy who is great at settling into your routine. He is dog and cat friendly. He especially enjoys the company of other calm dogs and needs a canine companion who can help him continue building confidence. While Wilbur is a healthy young dog, he will need daily eye drops in one eye. The good news is that he is becoming a pro at his eye drop routine. All he needs now is a patient adult-only family willing to give him the time, love, and reassurance he’s always deserved. He will be ready to go home after 6/26." Wilbur is being fostered in Loveland, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/wilbur/.
