General Information:Cookie is an approximately 4-year-old female Chihuahua who has been spayed, microchipped, and is current on her vaccinations. She arrived at the rescue facility at the end of August 2025 accompanied by one puppy, who has since been adopted. Origin and Arrival:Cookie was rescued from Southeast Colorado; we believe that she and her puppy were left outside without a lot of human interaction. Training and Behavior:She is kennel-trained and familiar with using a doggie door. Although she has experienced a few accidents inside the house, with consistent supervision, it is expected that she will become reliably housetrained. Social Compatibility:Cookie generally gets along well with most dogs but exhibits some bossiness and jealousy, especially when attention is given to other dogs. Therefore, careful management of interactions with other pets is advisable. Ideal Home Environment:It is recommended that Cookie be placed in a household with older children who are knowledgeable about dog behavior and language, ensuring a harmonious and understanding environment suitable for her needs. A dog by any other name, just wouldn’t be the same! Fantastic Mr. Fox, referred to as FMF or Fox, is a 6 year old (almost 7) Chihuahua mix. He came to MHCR as a transfer from a local CO shelter in February of 2025. He spent the next 10 months completely kicking our a$$e$ with his allergies and trying to get them under control. AND WE HAVE SUCCEEDED. This guy is, you guessed it, fantastic. He’s been totally worth the effort and we couldn’t be more thrilled to finally list him for his true forever home. He’s on a strict diet and requires daily meds to maintain this luxurious coat and to keep his skin fully intact. Fox is around 12-13 lbs. He loves wearing clothes and fully expects a nice wardrobe from his forever humans. He is great with dogs and cats of all sizes and has proven himself to be house trained. Are you in school? Perfect! He wants to eat your homework. If you aren’t into that you can simply crate him, but be warned, he will protest that a bit in the beginning. Fox likes car rides. He enjoys walks and stroller rides. He’s never met a stranger and is quick to warm up to new peeps he meets. He has bursts of play, but LOVES snuggle time under ALLLLLL the blankets as any good chi should. We have worked closely with Mr. Fox’s regular veterinarians as well as a dermatology specialist at CSU (🙏🏻) to come up with the right blend of meds and food to keep this boy comfy and healthy. He takes Atopica, prednisone, eats a strict prescription diet, and has an even stricter list of treats – with this kind of treatment you’d be surprised he isn’t royalty. We are happy to report, we’ve spent months monitoring his bloodwork and his body has finally taken kindly to the program. Mr. Fox, unfortunately has had a handful of seizures while in our care over the preceding 12 months. At this stage he does not require medications however it is something he may need additional support with in the future. We aren’t looking for just any home. We are looking for the right home. While there are many shapes and sizes, one thing is for sure, FMF’s forever peeps shouldn’t be opposed to a dog will have some medical needs. He promises to pay them back 10 fold, though. "Elden is a tiny guy with big feelings. At 1.5 years old this little Chihuahua is basically a shy introvert who accidentally signed up for life on Earth. Elden came from a hoarding situation where he unfortunately never learned how to be a normal spoiled house dog. When he first arrived in foster care, the world was very suspicious: People? Definitely sus. Couches? Could not be trusted. doorbells? Oh hell nawww. After a month or so, Elden’s foster mom noticed a majorplot twist. He now comes out of his crate to socialize and has discovered that humans may actually be useful for things like snacks and gentle ear scratches. And couches? The. Best. Thing. Ever. Especially if there’s a blanket available for snuggling. A few of his recent accomplishments: ✔ Leashed walks. What fun it is to explore. ✔Potty trained (a gentleman, however he may decorate a new space temporarily) ✔ Loves other dogs – they are his emotional support coworkers ✔Professional crate pickup specialist – if you need to pick him up, the crate is his safe “elevator” Things he’s still working on: •Being picked up in the open (he will perform a brief interpretive dance of avoidance) •Realizing that pets are good (he gets stiff at first but then closes his eyes and leans in like he’s downloading affection) •Learning that the world is not actually out to get him •Voluntary snuggling. He’s not a snuggler yet — but he very badly wants to be loved. With a patient human who gives him a few weeks to decompress, he will almost certainly turn into the kind of little dog who bonds deeply and follows his person everywhere.
