Story
https://www.collierescue.org/dogs/8 NAPERVILLE, IL Kirby is a gentle, mahogany sable Rough Collie who brings a calm, comforting presence to any room. This mellow, house-trained senior girl loves staying close to her people and would thrive in a quiet home that can support her slower pace and mobility needs. Kirby is a 11-year-old Rough Collie whose sweetness and easygoing nature shine through in everything she does. She’s fully house trained, rarely vocal, and content with a simple routine that includes short, regular walks and plenty of couch time. Kirby prefers to stay near her adults, soaking up gentle affection and companionship rather than high-energy play. She’s learning to loosen up and play a bit from her foster siblings, but her favorite role is quiet, loyal shadow. Due to significant muscle loss in her rear legs, Kirby has difficulty with stairs and getting up, so she needs a home that can accommodate her mobility challenges. She’s doing better with supportive care and supplements, but still benefits from a safe, stable environment where she can move at her own pace. A fenced yard is always desirable but she doesn’t require it as long as she gets age-appropriate exercise. Kirby moves carefully around seniors and would be an ideal match for a calm, patient household ready to offer her comfort, consistency, and love in her golden years.

Story
Fostered near Wonder Lake, IL Fenced yard optional https://www.collierescue.org/dogs/4 Sasha is a wonderful 7.5 year old Sable and White Collie. When Sasha came to CRGI she was very afraid of life. What we learned about her is although change, new people and experiences are scary for her, once she adjusts, she is a total Velcro dog, super smart, obedient and very loving. I am her foster mom, and I will tell you straight up, she will take time to adjust to a new home. Once she does, Sasha will show you just how amazing, loving and devoted a dog she is. For Sasha, slow and steady introductions to people and other dogs work best. She not only has bonded with me, her foster mom, but many of the neighbors she encounters through her frequent walks throughout the neighborhood and the people she has encountered in Petsmart and Home Depo. Sasha knows, crate, place, sit, watch, touch, down, wait, stay and paw. It is adorable when Sasha is asked to go to her place, sit, wait and watch for her food. She is like a little solder at attention until she is released. Sasha is nervous with anything new, places and certain people. When she meets dogs walking or in training, we do brief introductions and she does great. In the home Sasha prefers to be the one and only dog as she is not big on sharing toys, bones, or attention. Cats are unknown. Sasha has the energy of a 7.5 year old dog, calm and affectionate at home. Walks 2-3 times x a day, usually about 1-2 miles each, which she enjoys. Not a big toy girl but sure loves her bones! Sasha loves positive training with treats as it grows her confidence and focus on her owner. Sasha would do best in a home without children as their energy is scary for her. Older, calm children would be ok. Although she will do fine in a fenced in yard, her foster home has found that frequent walks have been an amazing aid in growing her confidence. Sasha will be totally devoted to her forever home. It is just her nature. When she first got to her foster home, she needed a couple of weeks to adjust and get comfortable. We gave her that. She has her crate which she relied on heavily to feel safe in the beginning. (Her crate will go with her to her forever home) After a few weeks we moved the crate upstairs and what is awesome is she made the choice to hang out downstairs with her foster mom and foster sister. The funny thing is her foster mom asks her to go in it now when she leaves the house, and Sasha has decided she doesn’t want to! (She is however enticed with a stuffed frozen Kong!) Not that she needs it when left in the house, well except for her paper fetish, so toilet paper or easy access paper beware! She was fully trained when she came to us. We decided to take her to a beginners’ training course to help her build confidence and get to know her better. Step one was getting in and out of the car. With the help of her foster sister and treats, she jumps in and out like a champ now. Although there are times when a new experience will cause her a bit of stress and she will decide to hang out in the car for a while after we get home! That is ok. It is her time to decompress. We are good with that because she trusts her foster mom to get her in the car and take her to new places and meet new people. Class was a bit scary the first time around, but by session three she would whine in excitement when we pulled in! We had an incredible trainer at Petsmart in McHenry named Morgan. Before class all I had to say was we are going to see Morgan, and she would get all waggy tail and excited to go. She did need a few moments to decompress in the car when we got home. Just the fact that she did so amazing at class, entitled her to a few moments to settle down. What is super interesting about this girl is that although new situations and people can be stressful for her, she still wants to experience them. For example, we walk all the time on both sidewalks and forest preserves. In the beginning, both stressed her out. Now she would be extremely upset if her foster mom left her home. Sasha needs a forever, devoted owner or family that appreciates with every effort to help her get comfortable, she will give her family unlimited love. She will show you at every turn how devoted and trusting she is.

Story
Meet Cosmo! Cosmo is a very friendly Border Collie who loves his toys and has lots of energy. He’s still learning how to walk on a leash and is adjusting to new things like cars and seeing other dogs, but he’s doing well with these transitions. Cosmo does best with a consistent schedule to help avoid any indoor bathroom accidents. He would be a great fit for an active home with people and/or dogs to play with and keep him engaged. Cosmo is current on vaccinations. Location: Palos Heights, IL Contact: seanoh25@gmail.com

Story
Barney is a 3yr old border collie mix, he came to us on October 18th from a shelter in KY. He spent the last 8 months in the shelter and supposedly hasn't seen sun or grass in those 8 months. When he arrived there he was feral and no one could touch him because he was so shut down and scared. After gaining trust with one of the volunteers, he slowly came around and has blossomed into an incredible boy. He is a very friendly and loving dog. He loves going on walks and exploring. He is a little cautious when approaching new surroundings. He will slowly investigate and determine a course of action. He is the same when meeting new people. He loves to play with tugs and acts as if he is still a puppy. Barney needs work with basic commands but knows "no" and "leave it". He doesn't know "heal", but he is a dream on a leash, and doesn't pull or lunge. He loves to play with people or other dogs. He has been on walks and encountered deer, cats, dogs and has had no reactions. Saw a squirrel and did want to chase it, but did not pull. He would be a perfect companion for a house with or without dogs as long as there was plenty of time for him to be with people. Barney is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and neutered. He is currently being treated for hookworms, lyme and ehrlichia. Get your application in on this guy ASAP as you will not want to miss out on such a sweet boy! Story
Buddy here checking in to say HELLO! I am a 2-3 year old 45 lb TANK! I'm not a big guy - just solid muscle. I love to romp and play with my foster siblings. This snow is so fun! I even love rolling in it. I get along with both male and female dogs. I don't know about cats, but my foster mom thinks that it's a possibility I would be curious but not harmful. I am a really good boy in the house. I am quiet - unless my foster pals bark for the amazon guy - then I bark too but when my foster mom says 'quiet', we all stop the nonsense. I'm kind of a follower - so it's really their fault that I bark! I sleep in my kennel and keep it clean, always. I have free reign of the house when they are home and am a good boy. I mostly follow my people from room to room and look for directions on what to do. I am slowly learning what toys are and am having fun chasing them when thrown. I like moving them around the house, especially taking them to my kennel. It's a fun little game I play. When I am tired, I like to tucker out in the living room snuggled up on a bed or up against the couch. Sometimes I also lay by my foster moms feet when she is working. I'm rather chill inside the house but like to run around and get my zoomies out when outside. I really like my foster family but prefer the girls over the boys. My past life was awful - I don't want to talk about it but all I can say is that a not so nice man was NOT nice to me. I am working hard to trust men but I am worried I will get hurt again. My foster dad and son are really cool - they get down to my level, talk softly and kindly, take me out to play, feed me and I even get yummy treats from them that no one else gives me. Even though they are really cool - I am still a little cautious with them and just go slow. I would love to meet you - especially if you have other dogs for me to play with! I am looking for a soft landing where I can be loved unconditionally and hope you will understand that it will take some time for me to warm up and trust you.
