Story
We rescued Rose from the Western Riverside Shelter on the day she was set to be killed. At 10 years old, Rose has lived a hard life full of neglect. This little girl was a mess: eye infection, ear infection, arthritic paws, extremely underweight and missing hair. But what really caught our attention was the massive benign tumor hanging from her backside. Her vet estimates it had been there for years; dragging her down as she walked. We wanted to get it taken care of right away, but first we needed to get her body strong enough to go under anesthesia. It took four months of medication, tests, proper feeding, and TLC. Finally, on April 22nd, Rose’s body weight and blood work came back strong enough for her to undergo the mass removal and spay surgery. You should see Rose now! She has a new lease on life, zooming, as much as a 10-year-old will, around the house and cuddling with her foster at night. She is so happy! She even has a pug boyfriend. Rose loves belly rubs and ear scratches. She is easy going and happy go lucky. Rose is good with older kids and adult dogs. Too much activity overwhelms her. Rose’s next step is adoption. Her adoption fee is $250. Rose qualifies for our Senior for Seniors program. This program offers a reduced rate for Seniors over 65 years of age ($150 adoption fee for Rose for Seniors). If you or anyone you know is interested in Rose, please fill out our Adoption Application.

Story
Southpaw Rescue was contacted by a Good Samaritan after a video of a trembling dog in the San Bernardino Shelter went viral. Riley had been wondering a bad neighborhood for two months without being caught. Once in the shelter, Riley shut down and found himself on the euthanasia list within 72 hours. Southpaw Rescue was able to get to Riley and pull him within 15 min. of his cut off date for euthanasia. Like so many dogs, as soon as we pulled Riley, we realized he was one of the sweetest dogs you could meet. He lives for pleasing his foster mom. Riley is great with all the other dogs in the home, both big and small. He doesn't pull at all on the leash and enjoys hiking. Riley is learning his basic commands and has fallen into the home routine quickly. He would be good in a home with children, other dogs or as a single dog. He craves human affection and attention. Riley is a protector. When walking, he is constantly alert to his surroundings. If there is an unusual noise outside at night, he will alert you. If you are looking for an insanely loyal dog, look no further. https://www.southpawrescue.com/adoption-application

Story
Callie came into the San Bernardino Shelter as a stray. She was terrified and visibly shaking in the kennel. The shelters are so overcrowded, that fear can get you on the euthanasia list. Unfortunately, because Callie's "tail was tucked and she was whale eyed", she was set to be euthanized. Southpaw Rescue pulled her. Since coming into rescue we realize Callie is one of the sweetest, most inquisitive dogs we have had at Southpaw. She loves to give kisses and cuddle up with everyone. She is gentle with the children who have wanted to meet her, and gently licks their hands. Callie is good with all of the other dogs her foster home. She loves to play and is usually the more submissive one. Callie knows sit and walks great on a leash. She doesn't mind going into her kennel when her foster mom needs to work. https://youtu.be/d3d7O2wyGzY Call is spayed, microchipped and up to date on all her shots. Here is a video of her in February when she saw snow for the first time: https://www.southpawrescue.com/adoption-application

Size
(when grown) Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
Details
Good with dogs, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Patches was discovered as a stray in the Coachella Valley. A Good Samaritan took her in and called Southpaw Rescue. It was obvious when we got her that she had been in some sort of altercation with one or more dogs. She suffered from abscessed bit wounds all over her body. There has been some sort of trauma to her her face, causing her to be blind in one eye and most likely impaired in the other. She also has a slight head tilt, which seems to be correcting itself. We treated Patches wounds and pyometra, which thankfully was discovered early. She has been spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. Patches is currently being fostered in a home with other dogs. She can be adopted into a home with mellow dogs and also would be okay as a single dog. She has learned to get around with her impaired eye sight, but is still marked special needs because of this.
