Story
Macy is an adorable young girl just over 2 years of age who is believed to be a Shepherd Cattle dog mix. Macy came from a rural part of Kentucky where she was live-trapped after being born to a pack of Shepherds that were free-roaming on a farm. Macy had zero human contact prior to being trapped and has been very slow to warm up. She is considered semi-feral at this point and is still overcoming her fears.   Macy prefers to avoid all human contact but has begrudgingly learned how to walk on a leash and tolerate being handled for daily living. Macy is a fear biter and if cornered - such as when she is in her crate and needs to come out - she will lash out in fear. If you move slowly with Macy she settles down and will allow you to handle her but she gets overwhelmed easily when rushed. Macy is going to require extensive ongoing handling, training, and socialization coupled with lots of patience as she continues to grow and bond. Macy has made great progress in her foster home and can be handled by all occupants while she is both on leash and off leash. She enjoys going on hikes around their property - she is still learning to not hate the car which would allow for hiking in new places - and romping in the creek near their yard. Macy does not do well with children which she views as small cattle to be herded - she will nip the back of their legs if left loose with children and will bark at them from her crate. She has been slowly learning to interact while on leash with an 8 year old that visits her foster frequently but would not be recommended for a home with children under 13 years of age. Macy is crate trained and relies on her crate to provide her a safe space to be when she overwhelmed or cannot be supervised. Macy does okay in the house while supervised but does like to chew - she has an expensive taste for cell phones and shoes - and cannot be left loose unattended.    Macy connects with other dogs much better than she does people as a result of her early life in a pack. She does well meeting new dogs and is quick to follow their lead. She loves to romp with the other dogs in her foster home and has learned to meet new foster siblings well. Macy can play rough and uses her smaller size to her advantage taking out the bigger dogs legs while rough housing. She also enjoys chase games as she can run underneath things to hide from the bigger dogs if they get to be too much for her. Macy does live with a cat that she does okay with but she will pester the cat at times and has chased it a couple of times. Macy probably would be great with a cat that is active or likes to run around the house as she is more likely to try to chase it than she is a more sedentary cat.   Macy has a sweet soul and is trying her best to overcome her fears and bond with the people around her. Macy is searching for a home that can provide her a stable environment and ongoing work as she continues to grow beyond her past. Macy will likely take between 3 - 6 months to settle into a new home and is going to require a steady commitment from her future home to her ongoing journey. If you have a place in your heart and home for Macy please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for more information. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 25, 2024, 9:20 am

Story
Zoey is a beautiful young sable German Shepherd female estimated around 3 years of age. Zoey was a stray and we unfortunately do not know her history but Zoey is happily looking forward to having a family of her own.    Zoey is a playful and rambunctious young girl. Her favorite activities include playing in muddy ponds, getting all the love, and inappropriately barking at unknown dogs and people. Zoey is learning how to navigate the world and make new human friends. While Zoey can be a very friendly and social girl she is at a critical point in her life known as the 'fear period' and can struggle with reactivity when meeting new people. It is extremely important that Zoey have a confident, experienced, handler that can compassionately guide her through the safe socialization she needs in order to learn how to navigate the world kindly. Zoey is very much a puppy and while eager to please she is still figuring out what is expected of her and how to rise to those expectations. Zoey has been great meeting volunteers with the guidance of her foster home and with those she knows is a very loving, playful girl. She has enjoyed going on hikes around private property and exploring ponds and mud puddles. Zoey is an active and athletic girl who is going to require ongoing exercise and structure to ensure her growth into a well rounded adult Shepherd. Zoey would be a great running companion, hiking buddy, and would likely excel in a number of dog sports. Zoey is NOT suitable for a home with children at this time.    Zoey is still figuring out other dogs and how to interact in a polite manner. Zoey can be very vocal when she meets new dogs and was defensive with other dogs when she arrived at her foster home. She has since settled in and is able to enjoy playgroups with other young Shepherds as well as group hikes. Zoey is slowly figuring out that she can play appropriately and doing a great job. Zoey will require ongoing structured socialization and guidance to maintain her progress as she is at an age of development where her socialization both in and out of the house is vital. Zoey is NOT friendly with cats or small dogs as she has shown a very high prey drive with both.    Zoey is a young, eager to please, and outgoing Shepherd who is searching for an active, loving, and adventurous home to give her the guidance and love she needs to grow into an even more wonderful companion. If you're the home for Zoey please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit tierhaven.rescuegroups.org for FAQsVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 25, 2024, 9:20 am

Story
Maestro is a handsome young lad estimated around 2 years of age and believed to be an English Shepherd. Maestro found himself at the shelter as a stray and his past is a mystery. Maestro has taken some time to come around to having new humans in his life and is now ready to look for a home of his own.    Maestro is a playful, goofy, loyal, and game-y young guy who is looking for a close bond and lots of adventures. Maestro is still learning how to trust new humans and requires a slow, patient introduction preferably during a walk. He loves going on walks and hikes and is a very active young guy - he is particularly fond of exploring muddy ponds. Maestro does have some herding dog tendencies such as circling and wanting to be very mouth on that require understanding and redirection. Maestro is a loving and eager to please guy that is going to thrive with structured socialization and building his library of compassionate experiences. Maestro is learning that the care isn't scary and doing a wonderful job although they aren't his favorite yet. Maestro is very weary of children and is not recommended for a home with children under 13 years old.    Maestro is very dog savvy and lives with a variety of other personalities. He does a great job of navigating play groups and respecting the boundaries of other dogs. He currently prefers trying to play with his preferred humans but is figuring out how to play with the other dogs over time. Maestro has not met any small dogs or cats at this time.    Maestro is searching for a home that values his herding skills and loyalty that can guide him in his ongoing socialization and adventure seeking. Story
Crystal Symphony is a beautiful female estimated around 5-6 years of age. She was found as a stray and has an unknown background. Her conformation and personality speak to a possible English Shepherd pedigree but that is a question we will never really know the answer to.    Crystal is a great girl who is a volunteer favorite for her loyal nature and fun personality. Crystal draws a tight circle around her heart and takes a bit to warm up to the idea of new friends but once you're in it is for life. Crystal loves her people and you couldn't ask for a more attentive, eager to please dog.  Crystal is best described as 'gamey' which is to say she sees nearly everything as a fun game and is always looking for something to get into. Crystal can easily jump a 4 ft fence and happily does so to switch play groups at her foster home. She is an athletic and energetic girl who will need either leash walked or a solid fence to ensure her safety. Crystal is not comfortable around children and would prefer a home without kids.   Crystal is around other dogs in her foster home and does very well. She has a bossy personality and likes to try to round up the other dogs but they tolerate her well. She has a few that she enjoys roughhousing with and overall seems to have a good understanding of dog social manners. Crystal is well mannered and quiet when meeting new dogs while out on walks. Crystal has met some GSD puppies around 10 lbs and thought they were strange little playmates but ultimately did great with them. Crystal is NOT cat friendly.     Crystal is an active and adventurous Shepherd who is looking for a family that will help her learn to trust the world and show her all the fun sides of life. If you're the home for Crystal Symphony please email Tierhavenrescue@gmail.com for an adoption application or visit our website, Tierhaven.rescuegroups.org to view our adoption process and fee. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 25, 2024, 9:20 am

Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Layla is a stunning female German Shepherd who is estimated around 5 years of age. Layla was a stray therefore we do not know her history or background prior to arrival at the shelter.     Layla is a fun girl who doesn't seem to understand the purpose of humans outside of meal times. She is aloof and generally seems to not understand why the other dogs would bother with human attention - after all humans are only good for their opposable thumbs. Layla defaults to ignoring people unless solicited for attention in which case she is happy to entertain her adoring fans. Layla has a diva energy about her and definitely thinks she runs the shows sometimes. Layla does not typically seek attention or playtime and prefers to chill out and do her own thing.  Layla has had very limited interactions with children at this time but has done well with the few she has met.        Layla is fostering with other dogs and enjoys being the bossy supervisor of anything they do. She tends to ignore the dogs 98% of the time but in the instance that she catches them playing or being too energetic she is quick to be the fun police. Her version of fun is being the fun police it seems and most dogs do not appreciate her reprimands. She gets along well with the more laid back dogs and those that tolerate her controlling nature. She would likely prefer being an only dog or with older, laid back, dogs. Layla is not good with cats or small dogs.        Layla is a beautiful girl who is looking for a patient home that will guide her in becoming a loved family member. Story
Freya is a pretty girl estimated around 6  years of age. Freya was a stray therefore we do not know her history prior to arrival at the shelter. We do know that she is a very social girl that is looking forward to a family of her own.      Freya is the life of the party and is always happy to jump into making new friends. She is active, social, and loves to make her presence known. Freya is an athletic girl and believes that staying fit is the secret to staying young - it is an extra perk if it also keeps you close to the humans. Freya can be a bundle of energy at first but does settle down and is an affectionate, sweet girl. Freya has done great with the children 7 + years old that she has met and would likely enjoy having kiddos around.    Freya does well with the other dogs but does tend to be a bit bossy. She is an opinionated female and wants to make sure that everyone stays in line to her satisfaction during play groups. She does know when to change tactics though and will happily romp when she feels like it. Freya would be happy as an only dog or with other dogs that won't challenge her rule. Freya has not been around dogs under 30 lbs at this time. Freya is NOT cat friendly and would likely chase other small animals.     Freya is a sweet girl who is looking for a family to join on adventures.
