Cathy is making progress. ❤️ When Cathy first came to the Humane Society of Oldham County from a hoarding situation, she was so overwhelmed that she refused to eat or socialize with people at all. Since going into foster care - thank you, Angela! - Cathy has been slowly learning that people can be kind, homes can be safe, and life can be good. She is making positive progress, one small step at a time. 🥹 Cathy is going to need a special kind of home. A quiet home. A patient home. A home with gentle hands and even gentler hearts. One thing Cathy has never been shy about is her love for other dogs. She LOVES them! We believe she would do best in a home with one or multiple confident canine companions who can help show her that the world isn’t such a scary place. Cathy can also live with kitty cats. Small children, however, would probably be a little too overwhelming for this timid girl. At 2 years old and just under 41 pounds, Cathy is still a little underweight, but she has been slowly gaining and continuing to make progress. We have labeled her a Red Labrador Retriever, although you’re more than welcome to decide for yourself what you think she looks like! 😉 Cathy may not be the dog who runs up to greet you right away. She may need time to trust you. She may need you to celebrate the tiny victories along the way. But somewhere underneath all that fear is a sweetheart who deserves the chance to learn what being loved feels like. ❤️ If you have an open space in your home (and an even bigger space in your heart) for a special girl who needs some extra love and patience, please submit an application for Cathy.

Nico is a Malinois / Mastiff mix that is 9 years of age and around 65 pounds. He is impeccably trained with obedience and commands such as sit, stay, come, place and elevated commands such as "finish," and "peak," along with some basic scent work. He is extremely loyal to his "bonded" person and needs a savvy owner to build that mutual respect. This brindle breed mix is very intelligent and although he has lived with another dog in the past, we recommend his ideal environment be a home where he is an only pet to relax in his retirement years. He is a great companion for walks, lounging in the sunshine in a fenced yard and fulfilling the couch potato roll. He is at the age where he appreciates quieter surroundings. He enjoys human contact with his people. We would love to see him live out retirement days with a person who gives him attention, comfort, the luxury items of a comfy dog bed and lounging time in the backyard sunshine!

Koda Bear is big, furry, friendly, and TRAINED! 🐻 This handsome guy already knows his commands thanks to a board-and-train program completed by his previous owner. He could use a little brushing up on his leash manners, but overall, Koda Bear is an incredibly intelligent and trainable guy who is eager to please. Koda Bear came to HSOC as an owner surrender after his owner experienced multiple health complications and was no longer able to care for a dog, especially one as large as Koda. And speaking of large… Koda Bear weighs around 90 pounds! He does need to lose several pounds to get to a healthier weight, but underneath all that fluff is a German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix. So yes, he sheds. A LOT. 😂 He even comes with non-purebred AKC papers, if that's something you're into! This big lovable oaf is good with other dogs and children, and he's both crate trained and housetrained. He has plenty of manners already under his belt and is ready to find a family who will continue giving him the structure, exercise, and love he deserves. Like all HSOC dogs, Koda Bear comes with his age-appropriate vaccinations, neuter, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, a microchip, and all the support you need to help make the transition into his new home a successful one. Koda Bear is also eligible for free follow-up training through HSOC if you find yourself needing a little help along the way. Although, with a guy this smart, we think you'll be pretty well off with Koda just the way he is! Story

One of Kenai's adopted siblings completed a DNA test, and we can officially confirm that our guess was right! This lanky little guy really is a German Shepherd mix. Kenai is almost 7 months old, and he and his brother Kodiak are STILL waiting for their forever families. Will these boys find their people before their first birthdays? We sure hope so! Kodiak, Kenai, and their already-adopted siblings, Sitka and Denali, were all found at a dump. A literal trash dump. These precious pups made their way to the Humane Society of Oldham County, recovered from their previous living condition, and have been an absolute joy to care for. Now, two of the four are still waiting for their happily ever after. Kenai is a special kiddo who can be a little more afraid of the world than his siblings. He may need a little extra patience and understanding as he navigates new experiences, but he loves his people and has made friends with the dogs he's felt comfortable around. We consider Kenai dog-selective, so any potential canine siblings will need to meet him to make sure they're a good match. We're not sure how Kenai feels about cats just yet, but we'd be happy to cat-test him for an approved adopter. We do know that he's housetrained, crate trained, currently around 30 pounds, and expected to weigh a little over 40 pounds when fully grown. Kenai has already overcome so much in his short life. Now, he deserves the chance to grow up in a home where he can feel safe, build confidence, and be loved for exactly who he is. ❤️ Could you be the family Kenai has been waiting for?
