Story
Stella is a very loving and caring German Shepherd. She is 8 years old. My wife and I are both teachers. I am a head high school basketball coach with our son beginning to be involved in youth sports as well. We are in the process of moving into a rental a couple hours away. The combination of the rental home and our busy schedule has put us in a position to unfortunately rehome. She loves to be loved on, and hugged. She is beggining to show signs of aging as her back end is sensitive.

Story
Posy found us at 4 months old. She wandered into our yard. We found her owners, who decided they had too much on their plate to have a new puppy. We adopted her into our home, even though we had 3 other dogs at the time. I am her person, but unfortunately this leads to jealousy issues. This is now the main reason for our rehoming. She has become aggressive towards our Great Pyrenees. But only her. We also have a German Shepherd, and a Chiweenie. We have also tried working with her for the last 3 years (she is 3 yrs old) on not killing our chickens, ducks, and rabbits. She’ll be ok for a little while then play with one to death. On the flip side, I believe she would be a great fit if taught to hunt, or heard. She loves the outdoors, although she is an inside/outside dog. She is crate trained, and will ring bell on door knob to go outside. She is also a sweet snuggle bunny who thinks she is a lap dog! Good on leash, but pulls to meet ppl and get pets on the heady.

Story
Meet Buddy Elf! Buddy is about 5 years old. Buddy seems to likenothrt dogs, we are unsure about cats. Buddy would do well with older children, but no small children as he is big and rambunctious! Buddy needs a home preferably with another dog and a fence to keep him from wandering. An experienced home with training experience would be ideal! WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT BUDDY WILL BE STARTING A TEAINING CLASS WITH ROSIE DANE DOG TRAINING WITH OUR EXPERIENCED TRAINERS!  If you are wanting to adopt Buddy we will help you transition his training to you!    If you would like to make Buddy a part of your family, fill.out an application at www.barktownrescue.org    BUDDY ELF'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    May 16, 2026, 4:51 pm

Story
Moxie is around 2 years old! Not only is she adorable, but she is very intelligent! She is timid, standoffish and flighty when you first meet her, but she does warm up pretty fast! Moxie is a typical teenager and needs guidance and training to keep her from doing things she shouldn't such as counter surfing and chewing. If you are a high energy, you will enjoy this high energy girl. A home with other dogs would be beneficial to her to help burn her energy. She is doing well with crate training and house training. She would probably do well with older kids, but no small children as she could accidently knock them down! She really needs a tall, fenced yard as well just for safety! She walks pretty well on a leash and would likely LOVE hiking/running! WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT MOXIE COMES WITH TRAINING WITH ROSIE DANE DOG TRAINING! Thanks to the Pedigree Foundation, we are able to work with the trainers at Rosie Dane Dog Training to pay for a 10 week Novice Training course once adopted. More details available upon request! Story
Macy is around 2–3 years old, and she is one of those dogs who quietly steals your heart. She’s very sweet, but she’s also a little shy at first — the kind of girl who needs a moment to feel safe before she shows you her whole warm, gentle personality.Once she trusts you, she melts.Macy has lived in a home with other dogs and kids and has done beautifully. She’s polite, easygoing, and just wants a calm, loving family who will give her the time she needs to settle in.She doesn’t ask for much — just patience, kindness, and a soft place to land.If you’re looking for a dog who will reward your love tenfold, Macy is your girl.
