Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Katamata's foster mom rescued her as a 2 month old puppy after her paw was run over by a bus. Her mom & siblings presumed dead this little angel was all alone in the world. After spending 8 months sitting in a crate they were not able to save her paw and decided to amputate her leg in order to stop the spread of infection. Now a healthy, energetic, loving girl looking for a forever home. 80% house-trained, loves to play with toys and in her backyard. Short walks only since she does get tired and needs to take a break. Does counter surf but will stop if commanded. Further training would be beneficial for her and new family.

Story
Rudy is a handsome Border Collie. If you are looking for an Agility dog he would be perfect. Recalls are great, and he just wants to be near his human. Bonds quickly. Loves to herd everything (typical border collie), and playing with balls. Does well on playdates so a submissive dog would be fine for him. Does become very curious when he sees other dogs on his walks and wants to meet them. Can become protective of his crate and food when another dog gets near it. Fine with his humans. Well out out of your hand gently, gives kisses and sit in your lap. No small children since he will herd them up and possibly knock them down when playing. Fenced in yard and someone who is active to keep Rudy's mind and body busy would be the ideal friend/family.

Story
Are you looking for a pair of loving, intelligent, pretty, and active girls who are always on the go?  Well, then Tosa (a.k.a. Toaster) and her sister, Mika (a.k.a. Microwave) might be just the pups for you.   Tosa  is a healthy, 39.1 pound, almost one year old Brittany/Lab Mix. She adores running around in her fosters’ yard, going for walks in the neighborhood, hunting for squirrels and other critters, playing fetch, performing surveillance duty while looking out her foster family’s picture window and sliding doors, and gobbling up all the training treats she can.  Her current favorite past time is carrying a tennis ball around in her mouth, throwing the ball for herself, and then retrieving it. The name “Tosa” comes from the Potawatomi  word for “firefly.”  Tosa has a special meaning for her foster parents.  It is a contraction for the city of “Wauwatosa,” a place where Tosa’s foster parents once lived.  Tosa lives up to her name. Her personality, eyes, and smile always sparkle.  She loves with her whole heart and whoever adopts her will not be disappointed!  Tosa is a very devoted dog once she feels comfortable. She basks in all the kisses, hugs, tummy rubs, and praise she receives.  She often likes to cuddle up next to her humans on the sofa as they relax in the living room or sleep with them in their beds.  She is a big velcro dog.  In fact, foster mom has observed that Tosa will howl a bit after being put into her crate as her humans go out the front door. This pup is NOT a fan of car rides nor thunderstorms.   Tosa likes people and other dogs IF she knows them well.  If she is unsure, she will bark.  Tosa’s foster mom feels her fear is rooted in her limited time for socialization while she and her sister were being boarded before coming into foster care.  As a result, any potential adopter(s) who is/are experienced with the breed and is/are serious about adopting Tosa and her sister  will need to keep in mind slow introductions of people, animals, and novel situations/ inanimate objects.   Serious adopters will need to be committed to continuing Tosa’s  training.  Right now, Tosa knows “sit,” “paw,” “stay,” and “come.”  We continue to work on, “down,”“look at me,” and “off.” Mastery of these commands will help Tosa on her walks and her yard.  On walks, she has a tendency to chase moving cars.  Early on in her foster’s yard, she jumped the four foot fence. This puppy also  likes food and has been known to help foster mom by “prerinsing” the dishes placed into the dishwasher.  Tosa fiercely adores her people, her house, her yard, her toys, and life in general.  She is most definitely a “lover” and not a “fighter.” Since Tosa is part of a bonded pair, and her sister, Mika, is a little less predictable, foster mom would not recommend adding this bonded pair to more canines in the home.  Tosa is typical of all sporting breeds and requires plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.  She does best with one or two one-hour walks daily plus lots of romping around in her foster family’s fenced yard.  Tosa likes her treats; so training should come naturally for those who are committed to spending time doing so.  She is crate and potty trained. Tosa also still needs to do plenty of heavy duty chewing. ( Foster Mom has learned that the hard way:). )  When Tosa first arrived in foster care, she was leery of our five-year-old.  Now she looks for her in the mornings and cuddles with her in the evenings. Again, slow and calm introductions are a must for this dynamic duo. Tosa is a jumper and a climber, so a six foot privacy fence would be best.  This firefly along with her sister are ready for an experienced adopter. She and her sister will make a great addition to his/her family! UTD on vaccines, hw neg, crate trained, housebroken and on hw ft prevention. If you are looking for a pair of active loving girls,  you can’t go wrong with this bonded pair. The adoption fee for WI/Toaster aka Tosa, who is in Brookfield, WI is $325,  which helps to offset our vetting and allows NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful family members.  If you are interested in making WI/Toaster aka Tosa part of your family, please complete the on-line application by visiting www.nbran.org .  Contact Hallie Barbara at minnesotabrittany@gmail.com and then let your state coordinator know so we can get the ball rolling.  A phone interview, home visit and vet check will be required as part of the approval process by your state coordinator, before talking to the foster of Toaster aka Tosa.  Transportation can be arranged up 1400 miles with the adopter being responsible for at least the last 100 miles.    June 10, 2023, 10:52 am

Story
Are you looking for a pair of  gorgeous, spunky, and active girls who are always on the go?  Well, then Mika (a.k.a, Microwave)  and her bonded sister Tosa (a.k.a. Toaster) might be the gals for you.   Mika is a healthy, 39 pounds, almost one year old Brittany/Lab Mix.  She adores running around in her fosters’ yard, going for walks in the neighborhood, hunting for squirrels and other critters, playing fetch, performing surveillance duty while looking out the picture window and sliding doors of her fosters’ home, and gobbling up all the training treats she can.  Her current favorite pastime is claiming all of the pillows on foster parents’ bed as her own. Mika means “quick and nimble.” And does she ever live up to her namesake! Unsurprisingly then, according to Mika’s foster family, Mika does best with one or two one-hour walks daily plus lots of romping around in her foster family’s fenced yard.  Mika likes her treats; so, training should come naturally for those who are committed to spending time doing so. Mika is a very loving dog once she really knows you.  She basks in all the hugs, tummy rubs, and praise her foster family can give her.  However, she is weary of most strangers (adults and children) and their dogs.  Mika’s foster mom feels her fear is rooted in her limited time for socialization while she and her sister were being boarded before coming into foster care.  As a result, any potential adopter(s) who is/are serious about adopting Mika will need to keep in mind slow introductions of people, animals, and even noisy household appliances (like the vacuum cleaner) are best.  Mika is fearful and handles it by barking and lurching.   Serious adopters will need to be committed to continuing Mika’s training.  Right now Mika knows “sit,” “paw,” “stay,” and “come.”  We continue to work on, “down,”“look at me,” and “off.”  Mika most definitely is a food aficionado; consequently, we have been trying to break her of counter surfing.  To her credit, Mika soaks up all the love and affection that she can.  Sometimes, MIka and her sister compete for attention, toys, and even space in the yard. Mika is crate and potty trained. She does still need to do plenty of heavy duty chewing.  Foster Mom has learned that the hard way:).  At first, Mika was afraid of our five year old.  Now they are the best of friends.  Again, slow and calm introductions are a must.  Mika is a jumper and a climber, so a six foot privacy fence would be best.  This dog is fiercely loyal and loving.  This dynamic duo (Mika and Tosa) will make the right adopter a great addition to his/her family! Story
Please contact Doug and Becky (phrederic@live.com) for more information about this pet.Jack’s the name—I’m a pretty cool dude! I’m really getting to love being around people and having all this attention! My current house mates have been showing me the ropes—doggy doors so I can use the bathroom anytime I want, and playing with toys for fun. I don’t have many teeth anymore, but I love my hard kibble so it takes me a while to eat sometimes. It’s a good thing my people leave my food out so I can grab a couple of bites anytime I want it. I’m sure enjoying my freedom! My housemates like the crate, but I’m not going in there for naps, no sir! I like my little throw rug for that. I prefer to not be in a closed room at night, even with my people. A few more things you might want to know about me: I love being brushed and cuddled. I’m not food aggressive at all—I share a hard kibble bowl with my foster pack. I’ve got that no using the restroom or marking everything in the house down, so the humans aren’t making me wear a belly band anymore. They say I’m housebroken—whatever that means. I’m still learning to walk on the leash, I just have so much to look at!! I am looking for a forever home where it’s okay to be curious about everything and have an occasional zoomy. Oh, and I adore soft treats. I need lots of love, attention and treats—did I mention treats? Jack is a 9 year old liver and white Brittany weighing at 33lbs. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines and preventatives, and HW negative. He is currently living with a foster in Michigan. If you’re interested in giving Jack a forever home with all the treats he could ever want, please fill out our online adoption application by visiting http://nbran.org/adopt/adoption-application as well as emailing our Michigan coordinator Nicole Stafford at Nstafford.NBRAN@gmail.com. Jacks adoption fee is $350 and as part of our canine railroad, he can be transported up to 1400 miles from Michigan with the adopter being responsible for the last 100 milesJune 10, 2023, 10:52 am

The looks? Yep! The attitude? Yep! The personality? Yep again! This handsome, loving, and oh so goofy boy is looking for his forever home, and Duke really is the dog to meet! Duke lives the best of both worlds - he wants to get a good play out, and then settle down nice and close for a good cuddle. Duke does also enjoy a good few minutes of the evening zoomies, and takes off like a racehorse. It never lasts long, but it sure is a sight to see! Since arriving in foster care, Duke has worked with a trainer and his manners have greatly improved. Early in his foster stay, he would bark at dogs across the street and he now completely ignores them, and continues on his way; just like the true gentleman he is! With the use of a little distracting, you will be good to go. He does get very excited at the sight of his leash, and wiggles his butt around but his listening ears turn on once his leash clicks to his collar. We can’t all be absolutely perfect, and with this, Duke prefers to have his humans home with him. Duke does whine and cry when his humans have to leave, but can be distracted with a tasty peanut butter Kong when needed. Like all good boys, Duke is also both fully house trained and crate trained. Duke joined us in the Animalert Foster Family back in December of 2021, and he is eagerly waiting for somewhere to finally call his forever home. If Duke’s needs and wants fit into your lifestyle, please apply to make his happy ever after today at https://www.animalert.ca/apply/dog-adoption Duke is up to date on his vaccines, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has had heartworm & flea/tick preventatives.  Duke’s adoption fee will be $650.00 and will include his health records.    If you wish to learn more about Animalert, please visit our website at     https://www.animalert.ca/ Due to the volume of emails, phone calls, and messages Animalert receives, it is not always possible to respond to every application.
