Story
Meet Sammy — the Handsome, Wirehaired Wonder! Hi there! I’m Sammy, a 1-year-old Wirehaired Terrier with a heart full of sweetness and a dash of little-dog spunk. I may be a bit shy when meeting new people, but don’t let that fool you — I warm up quickly and soon become your cheerful sidekick. I’ve got plenty of terrier energy for playtime, walks, and any adventures you have planned. I love people of all sizes, and I’m even cool with cats, which I’m told is a pretty big deal. And yes… I am very handsome. Have you seen my eyes? They’re practically adoption magnets. So what are you waiting for? Give Heartland a call to set up a meet-and-greet. I promise — I’m even cuter in person, and I can’t wait to meet you!

Story
Say hello to Zoey! — a 2-year-old, 13.4-lb Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix with a big personality packed into a perfectly portable size. Zoey is super friendly and brings all the happy puppy energy wherever she goes, she'll need someone who can keep up with her ability to play the day away. She’s fond of men, but really just loves people in general and is always ready to make a new friend. When she gets excited, she does the cutest little snort that will absolutely make you laugh. She’s potty trained and already knows some helpful words like her name, “no,” “potty,” and “treat” (her favorite one 😉). Zoey is comfortable being picked up and handled, and she seems like she’d do well with regular grooming — a great plus for a pup with her fabulous coat. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big heart, playful spirit, and lots of love to give, Zoey might just be your perfect match. Since many of our adoptable dogs are in foster homes, appointments are highly recommended to ensure the animal you are interested in is currently at the shelter. Please call or e-mail the shelter to set up an appointment to meet and adopt! Our adoption fees include the following: all of our dogs/puppies are current on vaccinations (DHPP and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, heartworm tested and current on preventative, microchipped, treated for fleas/ticks and are spayed or neutered. Our large dog adoption fee is generally $175 + tax. Our small dog and puppy adoption fee is generally $300+ tax. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances. Due to space limitations, we do not hold dogs. Because we are on a busy street, we require that all dogs leaving the shelter be in a carrier or on leash. All pets remain up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee paid.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.London is a super sweet Mini Poodle in search of her forever home. London is a very playful little dog - she's discovering the joy of doggie toys and playing with the other pups in her foster home. She is working hard on her house training.    ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS: Physically fenced in yard to keep her safe - no invisible fences. London would love a resident dog to play with in her forever home, but it's not required. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.*All SFCR dogs are current on age-appropriate vaccinations (rabies, distemper, bordetella, and lepto), spayed/neutered (if at least 6 months of age), tested for heartworm & tick-borne diseases, receive dentals if needed, are started on preventatives for heartworm and fleas/ticks, and microchipped. Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have received limited socialization, so they generally require extra time to settle in and acclimate. Skills like house training, leash walking, and mastering stairs may require a little extra practice. However, with understanding, patience, and a gentle hand, most of our dogs adapt quite quickly. January 12, 2026, 1:22 pm
