Story
We believe Dottie to be a strong Dutch Shepherd mix with those ears! All of her 9 pups inherited those ears too. Her pups have already gone into rescue. Now it's Dottie's turn for a forever home. At first , Dottie was scared of everything and everyone, hiding in the dog house whenever her foster was present. She would even take her food dish into the dog house to hide to eat. She LOVES  other dogs! She now plays, polices the yard and goes in and out of the house. She crates very well and walks on a leash. She Is sweet, still a little shy, but loves to be petted and loved on. She needs slow introductions to new people because of her shyness, never has she shown any aggression. She will do great with a loving, active family. Please give Dottie her chance at a forever family. https://bit.ly/codys_adoption_application. ##2418677##

Story
Buster’s joy is contagious. If you’re looking for a happy, playful, fun-loving dog then come meet Buster. Buster is a 1 year old 40 pound neutered brindle Shepherd mix (Dutch/Belgium) part Carolina Dog. He came to Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/9 as a stray. He has a tall, lean body with a healthy coat and exceptionally big ears. He’s very sociable. He prefers to hang out with his human friends. He’s very loving and well mannered. He sits for treats and takes them gently. He does jump up but not on you. He walks OK on a leash. He didn`t show any interest in other dogs, yet if you have another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. He did his business when he got into the yard. He’s a great all-around dog that would love to go for walks with you and then come back in to cuddle up watching TV.

Story
Amelia is a 2 year-old mostly black Dutch Shepherd that weighs 51 pounds and came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/18. She is definitely striking with her glossy coat, sleek figure and quirky ears. Being at the shelter with all the noise makes this sweet girl nervous, but easy to see she wants to be friends. She even came up to me for some ear scratches. She sits on command but was not interested in a treat. She is very sweet, alert, gentle, well mannered, energetic and walks well on a leash. She didn`t show interest in the other dogs barking at her, yet we do always ask if there is another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. She is a precious girl that dreams of finding her own loving home soon!

Story
Tycho is a sweet, smart, stubborn boy. Any puzzle toys we've found last him no longer than 5 minutes, and he loves snuggle time on the couch. He's a big homebody, though also territorial towards strangers. We need to rehome him because he simply needs to have more interaction and more training than we can provide anymore, since he's developed some separation anxiety and some defensive behaviors because he just can't get enough energy out in a day. We're looking for a home that will be able to prioritize his activity levels and work on training with him since he really does want to be loved, he just doesn't trust easy. He is very particular about a lot of things, but also relatively well trained. We are more than willing to work with any interested parties to teach them all about him and his quirks, as well as make a slow, non-anxiety inducing transition to a new home.

Story
Hi, I’m GriffI’ve had a really rough start in life. I was found tied to a tree in terrible condition by one of the amazing volunteers, and that’s how I made my way to Apollo. I was scared, confused, and in need of medical care—but thanks to the rescue, I got the help I needed. I’m feeling so much better now, and the only thing left is a little bit of hair loss, which just makes me extra special.I was born in 201&, and I’ve already experienced abandonment and neglect. Because of that, the loud noises and busy environment at the rescue make me pretty anxious. But once you get to know me, you’ll see that I’m actually the cutest, quirkiest pup who loves to make people laugh and have fun.I’m looking for an active family who will love me, train me, and be patient while I continue to learn that the world can be a safe place. I’ll need understanding and kindness as I work through my past, but I promise I’m worth it.I’m neutered and up to date on all my shots. Right now, it’s hard to say if I’m dog reactive because the rescue environment is overwhelming for me. With time, a quieter home, and proper decompression, I may be able to tolerate other dogs—but slow, thoughtful introductions will be important. What I really need is someone willing to see past my rough beginning and help me write a happy ending. If you’re ready to give me that chance, I’d love to meet you.If you are interested in adopting, please copy and paste this link into your browser...https://www.apollosupportandrescue.org/adoptthisdog.htmlIncluded with adoption: Age-appropriate vaccinations, up to date heart-worm preventative, heart-worm test if over 6 months, microchip with registration, and spayed or neutered- if not already, a voucher is provided.Show less

Story
Meet Marla!Marla is a very smart 1-year-old German Shepherd mix with a great balance of energy and independence. She’s excellent on a leash and looks forward to her daily walks, then happily burns off extra energy with zoomies in the backyard. She’s fully potty trained, rides well in the car, and settles nicely at home.Marla enjoys playing with other friendly dogs, but she is not cat-friendly and would do best in a cat-free home. She knows several basic commands, is a fast learner, and genuinely wants to please her person, making her very responsive to redirection and training. She went through a brief nippy phase, which has been successfully redirected to appropriate chew toys—she loves her toys and can entertain herself well. She’s a wonderful mix of affectionate and independent, enjoying time with her people while also being comfortable doing her own thing.Marla is still gaining confidence around new people and can be selective with men. She may bark defensively if someone approaches her too quickly or tries to touch her before she’s comfortable. However, when introduced properly, she does well—some men are able to walk her and give her treats without issue. She does well at dog-friendly restaurants and stores as long as strangers respect her space and don’t attempt to pet her.Marla is currently working on confidence-building, socialization, and desensitization to new people, and she continues to make progress. With continued positive training and a calm, patient home, she’s expected to keep improving and truly shine.
