You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!           If you’re looking for a little dog with a big personality, Grizzly may be your perfect match. This handsome Rat Terrier is loving, loyal, playful, and full of life. He forms strong bonds with his people and quickly becomes a devoted companion. In true “velcro dog” fashion, Grizzly loves to be wherever you are and will happily follow you from room to room throughout the day. His favorite place to be? Curled up right on your lap or being carried around like a baby. Grizzly is a happy, energetic little guy who thrives on companionship and loves being with his people. He would do best in a home where someone is around much of the time, as that is when he is happiest. While he enjoys playing and wrestling with other dogs, he does not require a canine companion as long as his humans are home often enough to provide him with attention and companionship. For a small dog, Grizzly has an impressive amount of energy and stamina. He loves going for walks, running, exploring new places, and spending time outdoors. He does pull on leash a bit when excited, but because of his small size, it’s very manageable. In fact, his foster family enjoys his brisk pace. Grizzly is unique in that he is easy to travel with like a small dog but has the enthusiasm and endurance of a much larger adventure companion. An active adopter would love having him along for walks, hikes, or runs. Despite his rescue background, Grizzly is a confident and brave little dog. He may take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to fully warm up to new people, but once he does, he becomes incredibly affectionate and loving. He will bark when someone knocks on the door, when a new visitor enters the home, or occasionally when a strange dog makes him nervous on a walk, but otherwise he is a very good boy. Once he settles into a new environment and learns the routine, he is eager to please and will likely be easy to train thanks to his strong food motivation. Food is one of Grizzly’s greatest joys in life. Meal time is easily his favorite part of the day, and he greets every meal with unmatched excitement. He bounces, wiggles, and celebrates before devouring his food with enthusiasm. Treats and positive reinforcement are sure to go a long way with this smart little guy. Grizzly already knows several commands, including sit, come, wait, and go potty. He enjoys chewing on bones and toys, running around the yard, wrestling with dog friends, and relaxing near his people when playtime is over. While he loves adventure, he is also content to settle onto a nearby dog bed if you’re busy. He is an excellent travel companion and absolutely loves car rides. Most trips end with him curled up and fast asleep before you reach your destination. Like many dogs adjusting to a new life, Grizzly still has a few things he’s working on. He prefers company and isn’t a fan of being crated at night, though he has improved significantly and settles much more quickly now. He keeps his kennel clean and will even choose to nap in it during the day. He has occasionally shown interest in bathroom trash, so some supervision and management may be helpful while he settles into a new home. More than anything, Grizzly wants someone to love. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick with endless affection, a playful spirit, plenty of personality, and enough energy to join you on all of life’s adventures, Grizzly is ready to be your very best friend.   Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.  ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Keep checking back for upcoming events I will be attending!           If you’re looking for a happy, affectionate sidekick who’s always up for fun, Shoelace may be your perfect match! This young mixed-breed girl is an absolute delight with a heart full of love and a playful spirit that makes every day more fun. Shoelace loves everyone she meets and is eager to please her people. Whether she’s chasing toys around the yard, chewing on a favorite bone, or curling up for snuggles after a day of adventure, she’s happiest simply spending time with her family. Her favorite place to be is outside, soaking up everything a Minnesota summer has to offer! Because she’s still working on her leash skills, a securely fenced yard is needed, or a commitment to continue her leash skills, so she can safely run, play, and burn off her puppy energy. Shoelace is potty trained, crate trained, and does wonderfully with other dog-friendly dogs. While she’d certainly enjoy having a canine friend, she doesn’t require one if her people are home most of the time and can give her plenty of love and attention. Loyal, playful, and endlessly sweet, Shoelace is ready to become someone’s very best friend. If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion who will keep you smiling and then happily snuggle up beside you at the end of the day, Shoelace can’t wait to meet you!   I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. If you are looking for a best friend, please fill out the puppy application. The more info you include on the application the better so I can find a good match for my forever home. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! This fee must be paid within 24 hours or your application will be considered void.  We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.   Puppy Applications will be responded to within 5 business days, after receipt of the application fee.  Please understand that paying the fee does not guarantee you will be approved to adopt the puppy. Our goal is place puppies in homes that are suited for their individual needs. You may be willing and able to provide a great home, but if it doesn’t meet the specific needs of the puppy, we will not approve your application. We accept applications for puppies until we have a candidate that meets all of the requirements needed for the specific puppy and they have been contacted to review the adoption process as well as agree to all of the terms to move forward. Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by The Wilbur Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $250.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi, my name is Neuf and I'm from Minnesota. From his foster: Neuf is a happy, spunky, energetic guy who loves squeaky toys, playing with other dogs, and zooming around the yard. He’s very smart and highly food-motivated, making him responsive to training and eager to learn. Neuf has completed professional training and continues to make impressive progress with structure and consistency. One of Neuf’s biggest accomplishments has been his leash walking. When he first arrived in foster care, he struggled to make it around the block without becoming overstimulated. Today, he happily enjoys 2–3 mile walks and continues to improve every week. He still benefits from clear guidance and consistency, but he has shown just how capable he is of learning new skills. Neuf does great in his crate overnight and is fully potty trained, going right away when let out. He enjoys being close to his people and loves to relax after a day of activity. Neuf can be vocal when he hears unfamiliar sounds or meets new people, but he has made tremendous progress in these areas as well. While he may still bark occasionally, he is much calmer than when he first entered foster care and recovers more quickly from exciting situations. With calm, patient introductions, he becomes friendly, affectionate, and eager for attention. To help him continue building confidence and good coping skills, Neuf currently takes anti-anxiety medication under veterinary supervision. This has been a helpful part of his training and behavior plan, and his adopters should be comfortable continuing to work with their veterinarian to determine what support is best for him in the future. Neuf is very playful and may become mouthy during moments of excitement or greetings. This is not aggressive behavior, but he will benefit from continued reinforcement of appropriate play skills. Because of his enthusiasm and energy level, he would do best with adults or older children who understand dog boundaries. Neuf is good with other dogs but has been known to chase cats, so a cat-free home is recommended. Neuf has come a long way and continues to show what a resilient, loving dog he is. He is looking for an adopter who will appreciate his intelligence, celebrate his progress, and continue helping him grow. In return, you'll get a loyal companion with plenty of personality, affection, tail wags, and snuggles to share. Neuf has completed a Stay and Learn program with Happy Dog Lodge in Cambridge, MN, to work on his on his reactivity. This program will provide continued email and phone support to Neuf's adopter.
