Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $250 plus tax Meet Melo with the wagging tail that never seems to stop.  Melo is a playful dog who loves to run, play and explore. He is incredibly friendly and affectionate with people. He loves to look out the window and watch TV. Although he can get pretty excited when he spots a squirrel or his favorite team scores. He is reliably housetrained and enjoy’s sleeping in bed with you or in his kennel. Melo would do well in a home with a yard where he can run and play. Melo would do best in a home with no other animals.Kids are great but he will want to play with them and may jump up on or knock them over in excitement. We do not know how Melo is with cats.  **Melo has a condition called hypoadrenocorticism (Addison's disease) which is when the adrenal glands do not function properly. The adrenal glands produce numerous important hormones that help to regulate the body. With Addison's disease the adrenal glands do not make enough hormone to properly regulate the body so supplementation is necessary. There is no cure for Addison's disease but it can be well managed with twice daily oral medication and a monthly injection. Recheck bloodwork every 6-12 months will also be required to make sure he remains on the correct medication dose. Cost for the medication is about $50-60 per month. When well-managed with medication Melo can still live a happy and healthy life with a normal expected lifespan. *Melo has had only one crisis and that was when he was first diagnosed. He has had no signs of sickness since being on his meds.***       Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the button below. They get along great with dogs, so we ant to make sure they go to a home with other dogs.  They do not need to stay together.  They have enjoyed living together but as long as there are other playmates, they are happy as can be.They are both good with kids but have never lived with cats.  Bertrand is very mild mannered and plays well with other dogs although can get a little over excited when playing outside. He is houstrained and well behaved when left non cratedBertrand recently had a tumor removed from his back leg. The tumor is called a mast cell tumor and is luckily considered 'low grade' meaning that it is unlikely to recur or spread to other parts of the body. Even tho recurrence is unlikely it is still possible so Bertrand will need to be closely monitored for new bumps and have them removed as an extra precaution. He has fully recovered from his surgery and is a happy go lucky boy who says to heck with cancer!  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Story
Meet Milo, an adorable 13-year-old senior dog! Milo and Daphne came into rescue as their previous owner passed away. Although he might be a bit older, Milo still has lots of love and affection to give to his forever family. He would be the most successful in a home with no cats, dogs, and with a fence, preferably a privacy fence. He does not jump fences, but does bark and growl at other dogs so it would be best if he does not have to interact with other dogs. Milo is the perfect companion for someone looking for a more low-key, yet affectionate dog.He loves to cuddle and snuggle. He is used to being alone at home. Milo is very loyal and will stick by your side through thick and thin. He would do best in a calm and quiet home where he can take life at his own pace. Milo may have a hard time getting along with other dogs, but he's sure to steal your heart with his charming personality and loving nature! He is not a fan of fireworks and thunderstorms so he does have an anti-anxiety medication he takes as needed. *More information and photos added over time. We work hard to ensure that our rescues have a supportive family while at foster homes to help them move forward and get ready for their forever home. We work on training, crate-training and socialization before a dog is adopted out. Foster homes are extremely important to the success of the cat at their forever home, and it is extremely rewarding to be able to watch the cats growth as you help them on their journey to their happy ending. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please fill out our application at http://legendsrescue.org/index.php/adopt/foster-application/ YOU CAN HELP: If you’re not able to foster or adopt right now, please consider sponsoring a Legend. Story
Meet Uncle Buck, a lively terrier with boundless energy and a heart of gold. At 15 pounds, he may be small in stature, but he makes up for it with his big personality. Now, let's address the elephant in the room—Uncle Buck's enthusiasm is off the charts! He's what you might call "OMG" levels of energetic, and he's not afraid to show it. His excitement sometimes manifests in mouthiness and jumping. In fact, he once managed to snag a handful of bangs during a particularly exuberant greeting. But hey, at least he's consistent—whether it's grabbing hair or jumping up for attention, Uncle Buck is always ready to make an entrance. Uncle Buck is a bit of a resource guarder when it comes to his bones, but he's not unreasonable about it. A little growl here, a strategic relocation there—it's all part of his process. However, it's worth noting that this behavior might not be suitable for households with young children who might not understand his boundaries. Despite his quirks, Uncle Buck is a charmer through and through. He's incredibly intelligent and loves nothing more than being around people. With a little patience and some consistent training, he's sure to pick up manners in no time. Plus, his impeccable bite inhibition means that while his antics may leave a mark (or a few bruises), they're more likely to result in scratches than anything else. In essence, Uncle Buck is a spirited terrier with a heart as big as his personality. He may demand attention with barks and snaps, but beneath it all, he's just a pup looking for love and companionship. So, if you're ready for a lively companion who will keep you on your toes (literally), then Uncle Buck might just be the perfect match for you. ##2014773##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Rubia is very sweet and calm. She needs a little time to warm up to strangers and while she doesn't love to be carried, she does love to snuggle close during down times and at night. Rubia would love a quiet life with someone who spend a lot of time with her. She always looks very sincere and serious. She is a calm and gentle presence. She also LOVES to go on walks and is an excellent walker. Rubia is from Texas. One big thing you should know is I am  heartworm positive - but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting me! After I undergo treatment for my condition I will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because I need treatment, I am available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program. Click here to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.   Click here to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can   donate   to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 17, 2024, 10:10 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Sheridan! When Sheridan found her way into the rescue she was thin and emaciated. She has been settling into her Texas foster home and receiving some much-needed TLC! One thing you'll quickly notice about Sheridan is her intense love for food. She's so eager to eat that she inhales her meals in record time. To help her slow down and enjoy her food more, her Texas foster parent uses a special dog bowl designed to help dogs slow down when they eat and separates her from other during feeding time. Recently, Sheridan's foster parent discovered that she's very fearful of storms. The loud thunder sent her into a panic, causing her to break out of her crate in search of safety and comfort. Now that this is known, there are many ways to help her feel more safe and comfortable during storms, including something called a thundershirt!  Sheridan has many favorite parts of the day. As mentioned, Mealtime is definitely at the top of her list, she also enjoy sitting in her loved ones laps, playing with toys and she enjoys having the freedom of using the doggie door to go in and out as she pleases. While she will go into her kennel, she would much prefer to be out and about in the house, hanging out with her humans! Sheridan has some quirks that make her unique like the funny moaning sounds she makes. She is only 1 year old and still has some puppy tendencies that require patience and supervision. She's prone to chewing on things if left unsupervised, and her intense focus on food means she'll dig in the trash or counter surf if given the chance. Sheridan has not been introduced to children or cats. Sheridan is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application.
