Story
Hi! I am Gretchen, a 30 lb yellow lab mix tripod who is around 4 years old. I am super sweet, affectionate and love to give kisses. I'm pretty low-key and love having people around me. Even though I had my left hind leg amputated it hasn't stopped me from wanting to chase after squirrels and rabbits. I love playing with older kids (5 years or older). I don't really like large dogs because I'm a bit intimidated by them therefore prefer smaller dogs. I would also love a fenced in yard so I can run and chase squirrels and rabbits. I have a gentle spirit and playful nature. I am looking for my forever home with humans that will show me lots of love and affection. THE HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS adoption fee is just $99! This will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 7:02 pm

Story
Hi I am Emmie (aka Ember)! I am about 1 1/2 year old female lab mix and full of wiggles and wags. I am a good vibes kind of gal. I would love someone who has time for me. My favorite place to be is near my people!!..I love to be loved… belly rubs, ear scratches… yes, please!!  I am good about staying off the furniture but enjoy having a cozy place to lay… nap time is important to me and I do spend some of my day lounging and relaxing…I am happy to hang out with you if you work from home or relax alone. Sometimes, my foster dad invites me on the lounge chair, it’s pretty great and I am big lap dog and snuggler.  Guess what else? I am potty trained and crate trained too! I enjoy being outside helping you work around the yard, but need to be monitored. A HIGH fenced yard would great, I love a good critter chase and am defiantly quite an athlete outside. No cats or small dogs would be best. Training would be very helpful, I am still young, I can get jumpy sometimes when I am excited, I will make you feel like the most important person when you come home!! Positive reinforcement is important to build my confidence. I am very smart and love to hear you tell me I am good girl… My foster mom says I am quite the princess… and I am very happy to be at the center of attention!! Did I mention that being rescued is great??  I am currently being fostered with two older male dogs and two older kids. I am still figuring out how to be friends with the dogs in the house…They have been teaching me the importance of alerting the family of all deliveries, but I am not a big barker (these herding breeds take their job seriously, I prefer squirrel and chipmunk patrol. I would be fine as an only dog or with an experienced dog owner who can help me when I am nervous… I am not really interested in playing with the dogs in my foster home, but I do follow them around the house and we lounge around together. I am doing well walking on leash and enjoy car rides… I am ready to be your best girl! Being in a shelter can be stressful and I hope that whoever adopts me will help me shine!! I am thankful to the volunteers at Starfish to give me a new chance at life.   If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! Story
Zucchini is sweeter than your average vegetable! This 2-3 year old boy is still a puppy at heart, he loves to play and is full of energy. Toys are his absolute favorite thing. But after his energy runs out, Zucchini just wants to lay on a comfy bed and snooze the day away. He can be shy with people at first, but once he realizes you're friendly you'll become his BEST friend. He'll follow you around and snuggle up any chance he gets. Zucchini is great with other dogs, but may not be good with small children because he can be rambunctious at times. **He would do best in a home where his parents are able to spend ample time with him, he does suffer from separation anxiety.** This furry fella just needs a forever home where he can be loved and appreciated for the good boy he is, so please apply if you're ready to be loved and appreciated back forever. Story
Hi my name is Cardinal! I am about a year old male lab/terrier mix weighing in at about 40lbs. Because of my age I can be a ball of energy, but with that said I also love to cuddle up on the couch for long naps. I can be a bit shy at first, but once I warm up to you I’ll always want to be by your side. When it comes to other pups I also can be a bit shy at first but once I warm up we could play all day. I am still working on my basic commands but I learn quicker with a pup who already knows the ropes and can show me how it's done. My foster mom thinks I’d be better off with a fenced in yard as I love to explore the yard and sun bathe in the grass. I haven’t been around kids or cats so I am not sure how I feel about them. I think I’d do better with another dog but I also love to be the center of attention so I should be okay by myself. I’m still working on my confidence but my foster mom thinks I’ll be the perfect addition to anyone willing to help me build it up. If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Story
Meet Claire! Claire is a special girl with such a big heart! A black lab mix who was born around 9/23/23 and weighs about 35 lbs, swas rescued from an over crowded shelter and needed time to become a healthy, happy pup. Claire is now ready to find her forever family! This goofy girl loves to play with toys, and other dogs. She always shows submission before playing with another dog to show them that all she wants to do is play nicely and she means no harm! She loves to snuggle with her humans and give lots of "boops" . This girl has such a fun personality and its great to see her grow every day. Consider her to join your family! We would prefer a home with a fenced in yard and a family who has lots of time to spend with Claire. Story
Pandora is basically an oversized lap pup. She will want to shove her way into a cuddle whenever possible and is especially skilled at creating trip hazards while sprawled out napping. She does get attached and protective so she'll bark pretty loudly when you return home and if anyone rough houses around her but she'll calm down with some head scratches and belly rubs. I am unfortunately in a messy separation right now and relocating rapidly so I am having to rehome my fur babies. She will need to have her shots updated. I have no issue with her being rehomed without a fee due to this, she has a leash and full body harness. She loves being outside in the yard. Her favorite snacks are cucumbers and bell peppers. Due to an injury at work I haven't been able to take her for walks in the last year so her leash skills have deteriorated and she will need to be retrained to not drag while walking. When applying please be on the lookout for an email from me

Story
Koba is a sweet boy who was brought to us after he was placed on a euthanasia list at a local shelter due to injuries he sustained from being hit by a car. We decided to help knowing we had a great team of orthopedic doctors and experienced technicians to help him heal. Koba received an FHO procedure to save his leg from amputation. He is doing well and going through physical therapy to get back to 100%! He lives with another dog and does well, except with toys. He is VERY toy possessive. So, he could live with another dog, with the right family. Otherwise, maybe a single dog home is best to prevent fights. He is great with cats and think he would be fine with kids. Koba's adoption fee is $259 and includes his neuter, FHO procedure to fix his injured leg, vaccinations and routine labwork. Please email helpsavepetsapps@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting Koba.
