Please visit our website - www.cockeradoptions.org   There, you will find the current status of the dog, the links to our adoption and foster applications, and detailed information about our adopting and fostering procedures.   ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! ADOPTED! MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Chip, and I just arrived at CSAC. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. I do have a defective paw on my right leg. No one knows how I was injured. The CSAC volunteer says that I am very sweet. I was very comfortable with all the new people I was meeting, and I loved all the attention I was getting. I will be a great lap dog. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy. Hopefully, I will find my new family that will help me to understand that I am a cherished family pet, not just an animal to be used to make money. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible. Click the Donate menu at the top of the screen. My name is Pearl, and I just arrived at CSAC. The CSAC volunteer said that I was friendly, calm and easy to hold. I was rescued from a puppy mill. I am timid and nervous because I have not been around a lot of people or lived in a home as a pet. I have spent my life in a barn, a shed or a cage. The best home for me has people who have dog experience who can help with my training and acclimating to the outside world. The people in my new home should be able to teach me the skills I need to be a great pet: walking on a lead, house training, and socializing. I will need time to trust people who want what is best for me and are not going to hurt me. That is something I have not experienced so far in my life. Story
Meet Dexter! Dexter is an absolute doll and a fluffy ball of love and affection. This precious gentleman has spent his entire life being passed around like an old sweater: worn out, tossed aside, rehomed again and again whenever he became “inconvenient.” His most recent stop was only a few short months, through no fault of his own. When Dexter arrived at Miri’s Haven, he was clutching the few squirrel toys he was dropped off with like a child holds a blanket. He was confused, shut down, and painfully thin. Yet when he saw the resident pups, his tail twitched…the smallest spark of “maybe this time will be different.” And it has been. Dexter is thriving in his foster home where he is finally being showered with the love he's deserved along. His personality is shining through: he’s a connoisseur of comfort ~ he loves all the beds and needs approximately seventeen blankets to rearrange until he achieves the perfect snuggle architecture. He gets along beautifully with foster mom’s two cats, loves sniffing all the smells on walks, and has even started to show off his playful side! His favorite toys are the small soft ones that are easy for him to hold in his mouth. After a lifetime of being ignored and neglected, Dexter loves being with his person. He's a top tier snuggler and will happily follow his foster mom from room to room like a tiny loving shadow. He loves being petted, scratches his back by wriggling on the carpet, and bringing his face close to yours while wagging his tail to tell you just how much he loves you. If you have to step out, he'll stay home by himself - but will bring one or two of your shoes to his bed to snuggle with instead. He's not chewing the shoes - he just wants to feel like you're nearby and it's as precious as it sounds. He also has the funniest and most adorable little barks and growls. Dexter would love a home with humans who are home most of the time, love to snuggle with him, and can provide structure and routine. He walks well on the leash but would love a fenced-in yard to explore. He would also love to join a home with at least one other dog to pal around with. He's good in the car, so feel free to take him with you when you go out on adventures. Dexter is housetrained but may need a little time to get used to the potty routine and schedule in his forever home. He will benefit from pee pads and/or belly bands in the interim. Dexter does best with a predictable routine and regular opportunities to go outside. He has some trouble hearing, so cuddling and soft treats will help supplement verbal praise when helping him adjust. He sleeps through the night like a champ with the cutest, softest little snores you've ever heard. Right now, Dexter is on a special diet to help him gain weight and soothe his stomach. His forever family will need to be dedicated to helping him finish filling out to a healthy weight - as well as giving him the love, attention, and affection he's missed out on his whole life! He's got a little bit of arthritis and some itchy skin, but he's on meds to help him control these issues. Dexter is a well-mannered, affectionate senior with plenty of personality and playfulness. He acts younger than his age and enjoys walks, playtime, sniffing outside, warm clothes for cold days outside, mealtime, and cozy time with his people. Friendly, gentle, and polite, he would make a wonderful companion for someone seeking a loving, low-drama dog with a big heart. He thrives with a consistent routine and does best in a home where extended periods away are limited or thoughtfully planned. Dexter is counting down the days until his forever family finds him, and we can't wait to see who's lucky enough to adopt this sweet soul. Could it be you? Dexter is approximately 13 years old and 15 lbs. Fostered in Germantown, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org
