Story
Meet Ringo! This dapper little guy came to us through one of our vet partners after being surrendered by his owner. It was clear he had been neglected and undersocialized. When he arrived, Ringo was emaciated at just 10 lbs, with a severely matted coat. He was so fearful and anxious that he had to be sedated for a medical groom. His former owner admitted she couldn’t afford vet care and hadn’t realized how underweight he was. She also shared that he would sometimes vomit after eating too fast, so she started feeding him less, only making things worse. Fast forward three months, and Ringo has made a remarkable transformation! Now a healthy 17 lbs with a gorgeous, fluffy coat, he has adapted to home life thanks to the attentive care of his foster parents, Inge and Allen. Ringo is fully housetrained and can be trusted with free roam in the home, He has never chewed or destroyed anything. He’s become familiar with the crate, rarely barks, and sleeps soundly through the night. He enjoys going for walks but is hesitant and fearful of meeting new people, including visitors to his foster home.  While Ringo enjoys pets and sharing affection, we’ve also learned that he can nip if physically moved from a place he deems high-value, such as a couch or bed. He once nipped Allen’s finger when being removed from his lap because he wanted to stay put. While these incidents are infrequent, they still need to be addressed. To support Ringo and his foster parents, we brought in a trainer to assess his behavior and provide guidance. Inge and Allen have been working on setting clear boundaries, keeping a loose leash on him for easier handling, and restricting access to the couch until he learns to share space respectfully. With this structure in place, Ringo has shown improvement, but is still a work in progress.  FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 3/25/25 "Ringo is very sweet most of the time and has been on good behavior since our training session. I truly believe he was abused in the past. He did leave a mark on Allen’s finger when he tried to move him, but he won’t bite just to bite—even if you take his toy.  We’ve only seen this behavior when we physically try to remove him from our lap or his favorite couch or chair. Most of the time, you can simply stand up and tell him to come with you, and he will—but physically moving him remains unpredictable. I tend to be stricter with him (Allen is still learning how to say ‘no’ to him). Ringo listens to me most of the time. He used to put his paws on my lap while I drank my morning coffee, but now, when I tell him ‘no,’ he immediately lies down beside me and stays there. We also now only scratch under his chin instead of the top of his head, which he associates with praise. Ringo is a quick learner. The biggest challenge has been when Allen heads to the couch—sometimes Ringo beats him there and is reluctant to get down. Since training, we’ve been keeping a leash on him for easier redirection, and for the most part, we’re keeping him off the furniture. This morning, Allen was watching the news when Ringo jumped up beside him. Allen got up, told him ‘Down,’ and Ringo listened! He hopped off and went to play with his toys. He’s making progress!" ****** Ringo will do best in a calm, adult-only home with owners who understand his quirks and are willing to work with him. He would be fine with another calm dog or as an only dog.  He has already made progress with better boundaries established, and needs a patient, experienced owner who can reinforce his training while providing a loving and structured environment. In the right home, Ringo will be given time to trust so he can become an affectionate companion, ready to share his sweet and playful side.    BREED ESTIMATE: Poodle Mix with Shih Tzu (ShiPoo) or Maltese (Maltipoo) GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  17 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 6 years old COAT TYPE:  Medium-long fluffy coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION: Rock Hill, SC   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Eugene! This adorable poodle mix is loyal, goofy, affectionate, handsome, energetic, smart, snuggly, fluffy - basically the whole package. Eugene's foster family describes him as "the stereotypically perfect dog." If you're looking for a dog who will be active when you want to be active and snuggly when you want to be snuggly, Eugene's your man. He takes his job as his foster mom's shadow very seriously and follows her everywhere to make sure she doesn't get up to anything fun without him. He is also a smartie pants who is housebroken and knows basic commands. Eugene LOVES being outside, and if he can't be outside he loves staring at it and smelling it through an open window. His ideal forever home will have a fenced in yard so he can enjoy the fresh air as much as possible. He loves to take long walks, make new human and canine friends (he's never met a stranger), and go out for fun adventures. He's great on the leash as well as in the car. Eugene also absolutely adores people. He loves to snuggle with his foster parents and have them pet him until he falls asleep snoring - he is truly one of the most loving and affectionate dogs ever. His ideal household will be full of people who are home most of the time to love him and be loved by him. He would also love another dog to play with! Eugene is approximately 10 years old and 27 lbs. Story
Meet Julie! She is a sweet, beautiful, playful girl who has had a rough go of it and is looking for her soft landing spot. Julie was purchased in New York City, a tiny, delicate poodle bought as a breeding dog to make her owners money. But when she managed to escape and landed in a shelter, her owners had a choice: get her the medical care required by the shelter to bring her home or leave her behind. They chose to leave her behind. Julie has settled into the routine at her foster home and is keeping everyone entertained with her love of toys. She hoards them in her "den" (open crate) and takes care of them as if they were her babies. She also loves trying to snatch things off of the coffee table to add to her collection! Julie has some vision and neurological deficits that will likely be lifelong, although we have seen improvement as she's become more comfortable and confident. We believe they were likely caused by trauma in her previous life. Julie's forever home needs to be a safe space where she can just be herself, with humans who can help her navigate the world in her own way. She needs a home with a fenced-in yard as her neurological challenges make leashed walks difficult. She's working on her housetraining and making great progress, and is fine staying home alone when her people are out. Julie's ideal home will be generally calm and quiet, with humans who love to snuggle with her and can provide her with the structure and routine she needs to thrive. And she wants us to add - LOTS of toys! Can you be Julie's special person? Julie is approximately 6 years old and 13 lbs. Fostered in Rockville, MD Apply to adopt at MirisHaven.org

Story
Big Ted is in the house! This big boy is all love. At 22 lbs, he's quite overweight so our first order of business is helping him crush his diet goals. Fortunately his foster mom is a certified personal trainer so he's in great hands! Big Ted is so friendly and loves everyone he meets. He loves being petted and getting attention, especially in the form of belly rubs! He's also housebroken, leash-trained, rides well in the car, and doesn't mind staying home when his humans are out. He is always adorable but even more so when he gets the occasional silly streak, and when he sits or lays on the floor you might mistake him for a beached baby seal. BIg Ted has a heart murmur which is managed with Vetmedin, and some trouble seeing and hearing. This social boy loves other dogs and would do best in a home with at least one canine sibling. He adores exploring the outdoors so his ideal forever family will also have a fenced in yard. If you're looking for a big, loveable guy with a heart of gold, Big Ted is your man. Big Ted is approximately 10 years old and 22 lbs. Fostered in Severn, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
*** Please note that we are no longer taking applications for Dasher. *** Hi, I’m Dasher – a 1-year-old Poodle x with a fresh haircut, a fresh start, and a whole lot of love to give! I weigh about 19 pounds, and while I came in looking like a tangled mop, you should see me now – clean, groomed, and honestly feeling like a brand new man. When I first arrived as a stray, I was matted and underweight. My previous owner said she’d come get me but she never showed, which honestly, is for the best. She wasn't taking good care of me. I've had a sad start, but I know it’s only up from here. I’m officially ON the market in search of my forever home. I’m a friendly guy — I get along well with other dogs, love going on walks, and I’m leash trained too. I'm a friendly little guy and my foster mom says that I'm sweet. I’m all about pets, tail wags, and sticking close to my people. If you’re looking for a sweet, soft, non-shedding buddy to brighten your days and walk by your side, I’d love the chance to be your new best friend. Let’s dash into a new life together. — Dasher ##2422865##
