Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Holly (darker colored) and Patsy (lighter colored) are a bonded pair. Their DNA test showed that they are a Pug/Poodle Mix! They weigh 12 and 15lbs. They are very sweet gals. They are quite affectionate with others and each other. We guess their birthday is somewhere around 7/2022 - 12/2022. They get along great with other dogs of all sizes. They even boss my 70lb Lab/Pittie mix around with ease. They haven't been around cats, but I believe they’d do fine.  They are very treat motivated. They are potty trained on a schedule. They greet me very excitedly each day when I get home.  They both love attention, snuggles and belly rubs. They are pretty active when they are outside and love to play and run in a fenced yard. They are escape artists so a secure 6’ fence is a must with these two or they will need to be on a tie out. They do play and get vocal at times inside. Walks are a work in progress for them. They tend to bark and react to squirrels and other dogs walking by but with some training and guidance, this should improve over time. When you settle down to watch a movie, they will too. They are great snugglers. When I work from home, they want to be near me, sometimes even in my lap. They spend weekdays in their kennels for about 8 hours. They do bark at first, shared walls will not be a good mix for these two talkers.  They prefer to sleep with their people.  It’s been a joy to having Patsy and Holly in our home and we know they will make a wonderful addition to any family they join who have the time to commit to 2 fun little pups.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application.  Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet!  A home visit is required prior to adoption.  Thank you for choosing to adopt! Story
Hi, I'm Buddy! I am an 11 month old Mini Aussiedoodle on the hunt for my forever home.  I may be a bit shy when we first meet, but give me a moment and I'll be your loyal friend. I'm young, full of life and just need a bit of patience. I promise, I'm worth it. I love to play, but I also enjoy quiet moments. I'm not just looking for a home, I'm looking for a family, someone to share my love with. I promise to bring joy and happiness to your life. Will you be my forever friend? Adopting me means giving a second chance to a dog who's eager to love. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2078498##

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.      Hello, wonderful souls! I'm Peter, your soon-to-be charming companion! I'm a very handsome Miniature Poodle, and I'm discovering the joys of comfort and love in my foster home. Each day brings me more confidence, and I'm eager to share my overflowing love with a special someone—maybe that's you! I am a bit timid, sudden movements, commotion, and loud noises still make me a bit uneasy. However, I'm getting better at facing these fears every day. When foster mom is still, I'm all about those loving pets and cuddles. But if she's on the move, I keep my distance—I even bolt if she walks toward me. I know commands like "outside" and "stop," and leash and potty training are still on my to-learn list. I'm 95% potty trained, especially with a consistent routine. A fenced yard is a must for my adventurous spirit. I'd love to have a canine companion to show me the ropes, help me 'dog' properly, and boost my confidence. We're working on some manners, and my foster pals are excellent teachers. Walking on a leash needs some practice, and a confident pal by my side would be perfect. Despite being easily startled and a bit hand-shy, I've found joy in playing with toys, furry friends, and even those mysterious creatures called cats. I'm all about giving kisses, nibbling fingers, and enjoying ear scratches. Zoomies are my specialty, especially in the fenced yard or on the stairs. I've got some manners to polish up, like waiting for my turn and distinguishing between toys and household items – hee hee! I really am a sweet boy who is simply looking for the patience, unconditional love, and security that I SO richly deserve from my own fur-ever family! I really hope that YOU will be my new family because my heart is overflowing with love that I want to share with someone very special! Love, Peter *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.  Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared.  Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.  This will be at the adopters expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses .   Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue.   Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    I’m fairly new here but have been gaining confidence by the day!  As with most dogs, when I first meet someone, I’m a little shy and timid.  I’m really curious inside and want to be near so it’ll just need a bit of time to know that you’re a safe space for me.  I’ve been learning about trust and now I’m more apt to stay put than run, when approached.  Once I’m picked up I just melt right in for love.  That’ll likely be my personality all the time once I know you’re my people.  I’ve just started sleeping on my foster’s leg and inching my way up to hopefully a lap soon. In my spare time I enjoy eating and playing with other dogs.  I’m trying hard to follow along and go potty outside but as close as I am to getting the hang of it, I might need a little transition time to learn it at my forever home too. I do well in the kennel and am working on going inside on command.  Won’t that be a neat trick?! I do need a fenced yard in my forever home. When it is time to put on a leash and harness, I get worried. We are practicing how to stay put nicely to put on a harness without bolting.  HAHA  I’m tricky like that.  I haven’t really had any true leash walking experience so that’s something we can practice.  I do know the command for “stay” which is what I’m told when they want to wrangle me in the harness.  I have been snarky with some of the other dogs here when it comes to my food.  I have to tell them to buzz off, that it’s mine.  That seems to be all it is, as I’m not aggressive.  I can be an only dog too if you’d like. I’m just a sweetheart (so I’m told) and quiet overall.  I am still a little timid but not as much as I was when I first arrived.  I hope to find my forever home so I can have all the love I deserve. *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.      How do you do? Regina is my name, quite a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Now, it’s not like a lady to share her weight, but if I must, I’ll make the exception this one time. I am a 26 lb adult poodle, and while some other dogs are okay calling themselves a “good girl” I would say I am more of a refined lady. I mind my p’s and q’s, I wouldn’t dare cross your personal boundaries until I am invited to which I will gracefully accept your invitation. I will stand and give you a greeting hug and put my arms around you in a gentle fashion.        I am rather intelligent and am of the curious kind. If my senses are heightened by a delicious scent from the countertop, I must admit, I may explore but only when I know something is obtainable. Perhaps keeping delicious morsel treats a tad bit higher will keep my nosy nature at bay, which will likely lessen a counter surfing opportunity. Because of my intellect, I will remember where you keep treats, so, take note.        Despite my small frame, I move with elegance, like a graceful horse in stride. Though I have not been around children or felines, I am gentle and calm in spirit, so I do believe my patience will carry over if either were present in my new home. I do not mind other dogs of any size, but I love being with my person, a home without another canine could be ideal. I’m sure either will be quite alright.       I do prefer to be near my master, but will remain quietly poised in my kennel if that’s where you desire me at times, I also understand the command. While I often do not choose to speak, if prompted by another playmate, I may whine until the barking stops. Because I am a smart cookie, puzzle games are a great joy to me, along with treats and food being a delight as well.        I’m hoping my new home has a fenced yard, I don’t enjoy unnecessary sights and sounds, and an area that’s familiar would keep me in a gentler state of mind. I am working on potty training, I go outside, and I do use bathroom pads in the middle of the night, but I do need practice. I would think that with some extra attention in this area, maybe a schedule, I will likely pick up on cues in this area quickly. Perhaps allowing me to have free reign in the home when you are gone will have to be a reward that I must earn because of this reason, which is quite alright as I stated earlier, I don’t mind the kennel.       Well, look at the time, I must take my afternoon nap. Before I go, I will leave you with this thought to keep in mind. I promise to be loyal, loving and a caring companion for the human that is looking for a fellow gentle soul. Sending my warm regards.   *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi! I'm Chestnut, a sweet and shy Mini Poodle. I'm a young adult at 3 years old, and I weigh a petite 14 pounds. While I'm still a bit reserved, my confidence is growing every day, and I'm becoming more curious about the world around me. At home, I'm the easiest-going dog you'll ever meet. I go with the flow and enjoy watching the household activity from a distance. I'm not really into playing with my humans just yet, but I do enjoy playing with my toys by myself. I'm not particularly interested in our resident dog or cat and prefer to keep to myself and prefer to watch. I would thrive in a home with a confident and social dog to follow, especially for walks and potty time. Some of my favorite things include chicken treats, pup cups, and toys that make crinkle sounds. I do have a fear of loud noises, and while I haven't had much experience with kids, I'd probably do best in a home without small children and commotion. I'm potty trained on a schedule, though I don't alert when I need to go out and might have an occasional accident. I'm also crate trained and do just fine without a fenced yard since I walk nicely on a leash for potty breaks and exercise. I never bark, not even a peep, so I'm very quiet around the house. I'm respectful towards cats and honestly keep my distance. Since coming to my foster home, I've warmed up quite a bit. I love snuggling on the couch and in bed before kenneling up for the night. I go for walks almost every day and walk right at my foster's heel – I'm such a great walker! Sometimes, I even smile during our walks. I like to follow my foster around the house, finding my favorite spots to relax in. If you can give me space, patience, and love, I promise I'll be the most loyal and loving companion. Could I be the perfect addition to your family? *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders.
