Hi! My name is Dain, and I'm currently accepting applications for one very important position: My Favorite Person. The job includes couch cuddles, neighborhood adventures, cheering me on as I learn that the world isn't quite as scary as I once thought, and reminding me every day that I'm safe and loved. In return, you'll get a ridiculously handsome sidekick with striking green eyes, a goofy personality, and a heart that's just waiting to attach itself to his person. I'm a bit of a Velcro dog—I don't just want to be near you, I want to experience life with you. Kids are some of my favorite people (they're much less intimidating than tall adults!), and when we go out in public, be prepared for everyone to smile, point, and tell you how cute I am. It's just part of the job description.
I'm also learning how to be a dog and discovering that life can actually be pretty fun. If my favorite human isn't around, I naturally look to my foster big sister for reassurance and will happily follow her lead wherever she goes. I haven't quite figured out this whole "playing" thing yet, but I think I'm getting close! Sometimes, if she walks away from a toy or a bone for a minute, I'll sneak over and grab it—not because I really want it, but because I'm hoping she'll come interact with me. I'm starting to realize that toys can lead to games, and games can lead to having fun with my friends. Every day my confidence grows a little more.
I've been working hard on my house manners, too! Since getting neutered, I haven't been marking in the house. I do my business outside like a good boy, although I've had a few poop accidents indoors because, honestly, being outside is just so exciting that sometimes I forget to slow down and take care of business before coming back in. At bedtime, I'll happily go into my crate to sleep, though I may spend a few minutes letting you know I'd much rather be snuggled up next to you instead. I haven't been left home loose yet because I'm still settling into foster life, but I haven't shown any interest in destroying the house and would likely do just fine outside of a crate once I'm comfortable.
If you're looking for an independent dog who barely notices you're there...I'm probably not your guy. But if you've always wanted a loyal little shadow who thinks you're the greatest thing in the world and just wants to do life by your side, I think we should meet. I have a feeling you might be exactly who I've been waiting for.
