He can chill on his own, but he clearly prefers being near his people and loves companionship. He has such a sweet, loving presence and is the kind of dog who will become very loyal to someone who gives him patience, structure, and love. Hardy is also a very smart boy. When he first arrived, he did not seem to know basic commands or respond to much direction, but he is already learning quickly. In just two days, he has started to understand “yes” and “no,” and it’s clear he is capable, attentive, and eager to learn with consistent positive reinforcement. He seems to be house trained overall, though he may still have occasional accidents as he adjusts to a new routine and environment. On walks, Hardy does not seem especially reactive to other dogs so far. Like many Chihuahuas, he can be alert and reactive to sounds outside the home and may bark at random noises, but that is part of his big little personality. He is observant, expressive, and very aware of his environment. Hardy is a loving dog, but he also has boundaries, and it is important that his future home respects them. He would do best with someone patient and understanding who can continue helping him build confidence, learn basic commands, and settle into a routine. Because of his size, sensitivity, and need for respectful handling, he would do best in a home without children. Hardy would be a great fit for someone who enjoys a mix of activity and cozy downtime: someone who will take him on walks, play with him, give him structure, respect his boundaries, and then let him curl up nearby when he’s ready to relax. He is such a sweet, special little boy, and he deserves a home that sees how much love and personality he has to give.

Though naturally shy and reserved, he has a quiet way of making everyone around him fall in love with him. When he first arrived in New York, he was extremely nervous and shaky. But little by little, Pippy has started to come out of his shell and learn how to be a dog — and a lot of that is thanks to his foster brother, Brady. Brady quickly became Pippy’s best friend and biggest source of comfort, showing him that the city isn’t such a scary place after all. Together, they spend their days playing, relaxing, and keeping each other company. At home, Pippy is happiest doing the simple things he loves most: curling up for long naps, playing with Brady, and loyally following his foster mom from room to room. He’s the kind of dog who always wants to be nearby, quietly offering companionship and love. While he may still be a little timid at times, each day brings out more of Pippy’s playful, affectionate personality. Beneath his shy exterior is an incredibly loving dog who just needed patience, kindness, and a friend to help him feel safe.

He is mature, well-behaved, and seems to have been owned before because he is housebroken, will give a paw and has excellent apartment manners.
