Luigi is a great fun-loving young adult who does great with both people and dogs. He sleeps through the night (can be on a dog bed or in a crate but he prefers the couch with the other dogs), is potty-trained, leash- trained and best of all, great off-leash on hikes with his crew! Luigi would love a home where his people are home most of the time, can take him on outings or to work, or who have another dog to keep him company. Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600 Meet Lumi – Sweet, Sensitive, and Ready for Her Match Age: 4 years old Breed: Shih Tzu x Poodle Weight: 18 lbs Coat: Non-shedding, low-allergy (and yes, ridiculously cute) Lumi is soft. In her coat, in her personality, and in the way she looks at you when she’s figuring out if you’re her person. She’s not the kind of dog who bursts into a room like a party cannon—but give her a little time and consistency, and she’ll be the quiet, loving shadow at your side. She’s the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a calm, cozy home and appreciates the little wins—like when she hops onto the couch for a cuddle or greets you with her signature dorky, toothy grin and full-body tail wiggle. Why Lumi might be your perfect match: She's crate trained and mostly potty trained She’s affectionate, cuddly, and happiest when she knows she’s safe She doesn't need a ton of exercise—she’d take lounging in a sunny spot over a dog park any day She’s food motivated and responds really well to calm guidance She does best as the only dog, soaking up all the love She's great with structure and settles beautifully when she knows what to expect What kind of home suits her best? Lumi thrives with people who bring steady energy and a little confidence to the table. Maybe you’ve just settled into your first apartment, working remotely, walking to your favorite café, building your own rhythm—and now you’re looking for the perfect dog to join you in that next chapter. Lumi could be that dog. She’s not looking for chaos or a crowd, but she’s totally content with a life of walks, couch time, and quiet company. She would do best in a home without young kids, and while she can pass by dogs just fine, she prefers to be the star of your show at home. From her foster: “Lumi has been very cooperative and agreeable during her stay. Even when a few dogs barked at her on a walk, she didn’t lose her cool. You could tell she noticed, but she kept her composure. That’s who she is—when she feels supported, she rises to the occasion.” Bottom line: Lumi doesn’t need fixing. She just needs the right match—someone who will meet her where she is and appreciate her gentle spirit. She's the kind of dog who builds a quiet, deep bond that gets better every day. She’s not for everyone, but she might be just right for you.May 12, 2025, 4:38 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, May 3rd from 12-3pm or until adopted. If you would like the first opportunity to adopt, please fill out an application to be considered.   Adoption Fee: $850   Meet Fozzie Bear: The Muppet of Your Dreams   At 10–12 months old and a perfectly huggable 19 pounds, Fozzie Bear (yes, like that Fozzie Bear—waka waka) is here to bring some gentle comedy, fuzzy charm, and non-shedding snuggles into your life. He’s the kind of pup who’s down for a walk, happy to chill, and always ready to flash a tail wag that says, “You’re my favorite person ever.” Don’t let the Shih Tzu-sized body fool you—this boy's got a heart the size of a golden retriever.   Fozzie is a work-from-home MVP. If you’re on Zoom calls all day, he’s hanging out quietly nearby, chewing on a rope toy or casually flopping into his donut pose on the floor. He loves people—especially his foster kids—and will happily follow you around like a furry intern, just waiting for his next assignment (spoiler alert: it’s cuddles). At night, he’s content to sleep in his crate, but he’d very much prefer to curl up at the foot of your bed like a proper bedtime bear.   He’s got a big personality with a soft center. Fozzie is sweet, curious, and occasionally protective—he’ll bark at visitors or passing dogs, not to be rude, but because he’s convinced everyone wants to be his friend. Once he’s had a minute to say “hello,” he warms up quickly and is back to being a velvety snugglebug. He recently spent a few days off-leash with a high-energy Australian Shepherd and held his own like a champ—proving that he’s got social skills and comedic timing.   Playful when you want to play, chill when you want to chill—Fozzie Bear is the best kind of versatile. He’s working on his potty training (yes, sometimes he leaves a little “note” on the hardwood), but he’s smart, eager to please, and sheepish when caught in the act. He’s crate trained, polite about chewing, and doesn’t dig or destroy—he just needs someone who’s ready to guide him through the fine print of “house rules.”   Fozzie would thrive in a home with kids, other dogs, or a family that just wants a loyal, loving companion who doubles as a fuzzy foot warmer. He’s sweet, affectionate, and shockingly trusting—he let his foster trim matted fur on his legs without fuss, laying calmly like a spa client who knows he’s about to look fabulous. You don’t get that kind of cooperation without a heart full of love and a sprinkle of magic.   So, if you're looking for a lovable goofball with teddy bear looks and a soul full of sunshine, Fozzie Bear is ready for his big debut—and he’s saving you a spot on the couch.May 2, 2025, 4:29 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $900 Meet Popple – The Littlest Fighter with the Biggest Heart   At just 6 months old, Popple has already overcome more than most dogs do in a lifetime. This sweet Shih Tzu survived a life-threatening liver shunt, underwent complex surgery, and made it through a long, difficult recovery — and somehow came out the other side with a wiggle in his step and love in his heart.   Popple is now thriving in his foster home and soaking up every bit of puppy life. His days are a perfect balance of zoomies, toy attacks, nap sessions, and snuggles. Breakfast is strictly at 7am (he will remind you), followed by a short walk and morning playtime. Then it’s nap mode, often curled up right next to your desk as you work, or off on a solo mission to 'reorganize' your shoe closet (he’s very helpful like that ).   Afternoons include snacks, strolls, and some delightful couch cuddles mixed with bursts of energy. His favorite place? Right by your side — or on your lap. He ends the night with a little snack, a potty break, and snuggles into his x-pen for a cozy sleep.   Popple is:   Affectionate and playful – A cuddler who also loves to entertain himself (and you) with silly games   Resilient and joyful – He’s come such a long way, and now he’s embracing life with full puppy enthusiasm   Smart and curious – He’s learning fast, especially now that treats are part of the program!   Great on leash – Walks are his favorite new thing, and he’s doing wonderfully   Good with other dogs – Especially those that are tolerant of puppy energy; he’s helping his older foster sibling rediscover play   While Popple is still working on potty training, he’s come a long way and rarely makes mistakes. He’s pad-aware and really improving now that he’s on a regular walk schedule.   What makes Popple extra special?   He’s got the cutest butt wiggle you’ve ever seen   His tail is pure floppy joy   He has a signature move: grabbing your pant leg and turning into a living dust mop for your kitchen   When he wants to play, he’ll raise his front paws and flop into you like a tiny, happy wave   He figured out the doggie door by learning to stand on his back legs and topple through — unstoppable!   Popple is still teething and will sneak a stick or mulch chip if you're not watching, so he needs a yard-free snack zone and someone to monitor him during outdoor time. He's not destructive, though, and is easily redirected. He does bark playfully to tell you he’s ready to go out or wants to play — he’s expressive, not noisy.   Ideal home? Popple would do well in a loving home with someone who can continue helping him learn boundaries and grow into his best self. A tolerant, playful dog friend would be a bonus, but he’d also thrive as your one-and-only.   Why adopt Popple? Because he’s pure love wrapped in fur. He’s got a little fighter’s heart and a whole lot of joy to share. After all he’s been through, he’s ready for his forever family — and they’re going to be so lucky.      May 11, 2025, 8:10 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $850 Meet Meadow – The Tiny, Twirling Queen of Cozy  Age: 3 years old Breed: Shih Tzu Weight: 12 lbs Coat: Non-shedding, extra soft, and highly pettable Special Skills: Olympic-level pre-potty spinning. Will nap anywhere. Meet Meadow—a 12-pound cloud of calm, cuddles, and occasional chaos (only during bathroom time). She’s the kind of dog that makes you question why you ever left the couch in the first place. Need a lap warmer, a silent sidekick, or a built-in excuse to stay home and watch another episode? Meadow is your girl. A Day in the Life: Meadow wakes up around 6 a.m. with the elegance of a small woodland creature stretching in a sunbeam. After a calm walk (no pulling, no barking, just peaceful sniffing), she returns home for maximum cuddle time before breakfast. While her foster family heads to work, she lounges with her Chihuahua foster brother like they’re retired yoga instructors. Around noon, her human co-parent stops by for a potty break and a snack, and then it’s back to doing what she does best: being chill. Evenings are for snuggles, slow strolls, and pretending to help with dinner. At night, she curls up and sleeps like an angel. Personality Snapshot: Velcro status: Soft and clingy in the best way. She will follow you everywhere. Kitchen, bathroom, existential crisis? She’s there. Energy level: Couch potato with occasional play bursts. Think “low-key life coach with fur.” Cuddles: Elite tier. She will drape across your lap, nestle into your side, and nap like it’s her full-time job. Social vibes: She’s done well with calm dogs and was the honorary guest at a girls’ night in. She loves affection and thrives in mellow company. Bathroom behavior: Spins in endless dramatic circles before committing to the perfect spot, then executes a full-on, slow-motion squat split. Yes, it’s as funny and charming as it sounds. Walks & Manners: Walks gently on leash—no drama, no squirrel-chasing, no trash-tasting House-trained and used to both regular walks and balcony potty breaks Rarely barks (unless she’s missing you, in which case she lets out a little whimper to make you feel deeply guilty) Doesn’t chew or dig, unless she’s fluffing her nap spot like a tiny interior designer Ideal Home: Meadow would love a calm home with a slow pace and soft places to land—either as your one and only or with a fellow mellow dog companion. She’s perfect for someone who wants a gentle, easygoing dog who thrives on routine, affection, and lazy mornings. She doesn't need constant stimulation—she just wants to be with you. Why Meadow? She’s the type of dog who instantly melts into your arms like she’s been waiting to find you her whole life. She’ll greet you like you’ve returned from war every time you come home. She’s low-maintenance, deeply loving, and honestly—hilarious. Her pre-potty pirouettes alone are worth the adoption. If you’ve been dreaming of a tiny sidekick who prefers chilling over chasing, snuggling over showing off, and will love you with every fluffy fiber of her being—Meadow’s already picked her spot on your lap. Adopt Meadow. Nap better. Laugh harder. Love deeper.May 14, 2025, 4:56 am
