Story
Meet Keiko! A serene eight-and-a-half-year-old Akita from Georgetown, TX, whose gentle spirit is wrapped in a stunning tan coat and a soft, dark-masked face that radiates warmth and wisdom. Keiko is the kind of dog who turns a walk into a peaceful stroll of joy, a patio into a front-row seat to life, and a living room into a sanctuary of calm. She’s a true gentle giant, tipping the scales at 103 pounds but with the heart and grace of a butterfly. Whether she’s quietly observing the world from her favorite sunlit spot or gently taking treats from your hand, Keiko’s tender soul shines through in everything she does. This sweet girl adores people—young, old, and everyone in between! She’s wonderfully social, getting along effortlessly with other dogs, and she’s proven to be incredibly loving and respectful with the elderly caregivers she’s grown up with. Her favorite pastimes include leisurely walks, casual people-watching sessions from the patio, and playing with her little plush toys (which, by the way, she treats like delicate treasures—never a rip or tear in sight)! Though she hasn’t been crate trained, Keiko has free rein of the house and handles it like a true lady. She’s also been successfully boarded, so with a spacious enough kennel, she adapts just fine. While Keiko was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease earlier this year, she’s stable and doing great on her one-a-day capsule, which she happily takes with her food. Her current guardians will even send her off with several months of her medication to help ease the transition. Keiko is fully house-trained, spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccinations. She’s not much of a barker—unless someone knocks on the door, in which case she’ll let you know with a polite alert. Her pet insurance is top-tier and can be transferred to her new family, adding extra peace of mind. Are you the kindhearted soul who can offer this big teddy bear a loving, peaceful home and continue the beautiful, gentle life she’s known? If your heart’s feeling a tug, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com—Keiko might just be the perfect new addition to your family!

Story
This is Liza and she has been with Chloe’s Pet Rescue since she was a newborn. She turned three years old on 2/3/2024. We aren’t sure why she hasn’t found her “furever” home. She’s such a beautiful girl. Liza is very friendly when meeting new people (after a few sniffs and she’s good to go) and is good with other dogs. In fact, if it looks like another dog wants to get into a tiff, she walks away. Liza is energetic and loves to go outdoors. She’s great walking on a leash, knows come here, stop, breakfast and dinner and is crate and house trained. One of her favorite things to play with is a ball. Something she does not like is rain and thunder. Don’t go out and buy a new bed for this girl because she will chew it up, just throw a blanket down and she is very happy. Liza’s adoption fee is $25, which includes her full vetting.

Story
Amos got to us after he had to go from the animal shelter to the vet clinic for an amputation. We don’t know why his front left leg was so damaged. We do know that the night of his surgery he managed to rip out all of his stitches and laid his head on the vet tech’s shoulder while getting wrapped for repair surgery the next morning. He is not quite a typical Husky as he’s very laid back. He doesn’t use his voice near as often as most Huskies although he does have a little growl in his conversational voice which isn’t nearly as off-putting as it might sound.Amos has great house manners, does fine on a leash, and would be a perfect go-everywhere boy for his family. He adores his humans and is very loving and outgoing. He is a social boy and meeting new people and animals is easy for him. He’s fine with cats and seems to ignore the livestock kids at his foster home.He is very engaged with his humans and loves to be as close when he doesn’t want to spend time watching the world go by from his perch on the porch. He will often ask to sleep outside but is willing to do what his human feels is best.Amos is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, and current with flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Meet Phoenix – A Beautiful Soul Looking for Her Forever Home Name: Phoenix Breed: Husky Mix Sex: Female (Spayed) Age: ~4 years (DOB: 02/18/2021) Weight: 60 lbs Microchipped: Yes Vaccinated: Rabies & DHPPC up to date Housebroken: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Phoenix is a striking Husky mix with a playful spirit and a lot of love to give. Rescued from the Forney Animal Shelter on March 30, 2025, she’s been making progress toward overcoming her challenges and is now ready to find the right home to help her thrive. Phoenix does need to be crated when left home alone and prefers to be with people. She has been kept primarily in a crate during the day, and although she’s made slow but steady progress, she’ll need continued patience, structure, and positive reinforcement training. Phoenix is great with children and would do well in a home where someone is around more often than not. A home with experienced, understanding pet parents willing to invest in her confidence and comfort is ideal. What Phoenix Needs: A calm, loving home with consistency Someone with experience or willingness to work through separation anxiety A home where she’s not left alone for long periods A secure space where she feels safe and loved Phoenix is in good health, and is current on heartworm prevention. She received her ProHeart12 shot on 5/29/25. This option is the slow kill method for heartworm treatment which requires no downtime and a re-test (covered by LHS) in a year.  She’s a special dog with a beautiful personality who just needs the right environment to shine. If you’re ready to help Phoenix rise and bloom into the amazing companion she can be, she’s waiting for you! For more information and or to meet with Phoenix, please complete an online application today: Adoption Application - Legacy Humane Society  We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program.
