Story
Madison is an incredibly loving dog who has been with Paws Up 4 Rescue for a long time. She doesn't understand why she can't find a home where she can be the only dog, getting all the love! She adores people of all ages, she just doesn't like to share her living space with other dogs. Going for walks is her favorite activity. She doesn't even care if it's raining! She's just a spunky pittie-mix with a big heart who would love for someone to give her a chance. If you're looking to a be one dog home, please consider giving Madison a chance. Our adoption process is usually quick, but may take up to two weeks. When you find an animal you are interested in, we ask that you fill out an application as a first step so we can determine if your family is a good fit for the animal. If you are, then we will contact you to arrange a time for you and your family to meet the animal so you can decide if it is a good fit. If you currently have dogs, we require that the dogs be present at the meeting to make sure it's a good fit all around. Once compatibility is determined, we move on to the paperwork and finalize the adoption. If the meet is not a good fit, we will keep your application on file for 6 months and we will gladly consider your family for another dog. Story
Mookie is a 7.5-year-old Pit Mix. She has been in a foster home for a couple of years, and we are ready to get her into her forever home!! Mookie is sweet and playful, but she does prefer to be the only dog in the home. She will require a patient and experienced individual who can do slow intros and give her space when she needs it. Mookie keeps her kennel clean and enjoys playing with squeaky plush toys and snuggling in bed. She thinks she's a lap dog too, and it's hard to tell that little face no! Mookie's favorite outdoor activities include sunbathing and taking naps in the pool.

Story
Queenie is a gorgeous pit mix who is just a giant baby in disguise. She is full of energy and loves to play! She has no knowledge of personal space and just wants to be on top of you and in your face. Queenie would do best in a home without other dogs or cats. She's done well with well-mannered kids, but she is a jumper and may knock them over. She loves to greet you with her sweet face and wagging tail. She would make an excellent companion and cuddle buddy! She is easily spooked by strange objects (ex. wheelbarrows, plastic bags), shadows, and some strangers/men. She has been able to meet many guys with slow introductions and patience. Please help us get Queenie out of the shelter!

Where are our athletes at? Marlo has never ending supplies of energy and could 100% beat you in an arm-wrestling match if she had hands. She's all muscle and goofy loving eyes. Marlo LOVES balls: tennis balls, basketball-sized balls, giant indestruct-a-balls- you name it, she's playing soccer with it. Marlo needs an active and strong leader who can help her be her best! Are you looking for a buff dog to join your morning workout routine? Consider this giant goofball!

Story
Sweet Dudley originally was adopted from us as a puppy. Now, at almost seven years old, he's back with us due to no fault of his own. He was running around in a nearby county in rough condition. We got some weight back on him and his fur is starting to grow back as well. Despite this period of uncertainty, he's a goofy guy who seems to enjoy the company of humans and other dogs. He loves treats and hanging outside, running the fences with his neighbors. He knows sit and paw, and his favorite thing is butt rubs. Dudley does have hip dysplasia and luxating patellas, likely due to the period of his life with a lack of proper care. He is on anti-inflammatory pain meds to help with the associated discomfort. We would love to get this stocky ol' pittie mix into a home to enjoy the rest of his senior years!

Story
Meet Dynamic! Dynamic is a 2 year old Pittie that was found in pretty rough shape. She was very thin, had patches of fur missing throughout her back, and was completely infested in fleas. Poor girl needed some TLC and a little elbow grease and is on the right path of recovery! Dynamic is very sweet and gentle. She has done phenomenal with the dogs and cats she has met from large to small. She has a pretty laid back personality and has great manners. She will happily sit on command and give paw for a biscuit or two. Her little ears perk up at toys and she'll nudge you for more back scratches. Although we know Dynamic is beautiful inside and out, she hopes our JTAC visitors look past her bald patches and love her for true personality instead. Her adoption fee is $230, which includes her vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, heartworm test, current heartworm/flea prevention, registered microchip, and spay.

Story
Meet Sunshine, a 4 year old resilient and loving canine who has triumphed over adversity to find her place in the world. Born in 2019, her life began in unfortunate circumstances when she was callously abandoned as a puppy by a curb, confined within a cold and lonely cage in Chicago, IL. Fortunately, fate intervened, and Sunshine's life took a turn for the better when she was rescued by our compassionate organization. Sunshine's journey to find a forever home started when she was adopted as a puppy from our rescue. With her endearing personality and captivating charm, she quickly captured the hearts of her new family. However, life took an unexpected turn once again when she was abruptly taken to a local animal shelter. Undeterred by these setbacks, Sunshine's indomitable spirit shone through, and she was given a second chance at a loving home when she was rescued for the second time by the very organization that had initially saved her. This courageous pup had endured the rollercoaster of emotions, but her trust in humans remained intact, ready to give and receive love once more. Sunshine's gentle nature is apparent from the moment you meet her. Though initially a bit shy, her heart overflows with kindness and affection. She longs for a home where she can be the center of attention, basking in the warmth of a loving family. Sunshine's experiences have instilled in her a desire to be the sole canine companion, making her the perfect companion for someone seeking an intimate bond. While Sunshine appreciates the company of humans, she particularly adores the presence of children aged eight and above. Her patient and gentle demeanor make her an ideal playmate for kids, creating an environment filled with laughter and joy. Sunshine is a shining example of resilience, proving that a troubled past does not define one's future. As Sunshine embarks on the next chapter of her life, she carries with her the strength and grace she has acquired along the way. This lovable and spirited dog is ready to bring sunshine into the lives of those fortunate enough to welcome her into their home. Are you ready to give Sunshine the love and happiness she deserves? Story
Meet Pilgrim! He is a 3.5-year-old, 55 lb pup who is rear end paralyzed from being shot in the back. He came to us through Animal Rescue Corps when they assisted a Mississippi shelter that was shutting down due to allegations of mistreatment and neglect of the animals. Pilgrim is one happy and enthusiastic boy- just pure love. He has learned how to get around without full use of his rear legs- often called spinal walking. He uses his legs to prop himself up as he walks around, although he has no movement of the actual legs themselves below the hip. He does have a cart, but really doesn't like it, nor does he really need it unless it was for longer walks. He has full bowel and bladder control and is fully potty trained. He is also crate trained. He does get super excited and hyper around new people and that is when his puppy behavior really shows- specifically pawing, mouthiness, and jumping (as best he can). He gets along with other dogs, but can get overexcited, especially with medium to large sized dogs, so we recommend a slow and controlled introduction. Pilgrim currently lives with a 3-year-old dog savvy toddler and he does well, however, he has shown some guarding behavior around high value food, so we are recommending any kids in the home be older. He also lives with dogs as small as 3 lbs and as old as 18 years old and he does great. He is very gentle with small dogs. With larger dogs he likes to run and roughhouse with them. We do believe he has pica, which is a disorder where dogs will eat inappropriate items. We have not been able to find an underlying cause of the pica at this point, so we have just been managing it by ensuring he doesn't have access to his items of choice- stuffed toys, blankets, dog beds, socks, any fabric items. He has done fine with not touching furniture or even the small dog beds that are in their dog crates. He had one bowel obstruction surgery done in November of 2021 when he consumed a whole stuffed dog toy and it caused a blockage. His new home must be very serious about ensuring his environment is free of these items as consuming these things can be deadly. Due to his paralysis, Pilgrim's ideal home would be one without a ton of stairs with easy access to the outdoors. He has been able to navigate up and down the 5-6 stairs in his current foster home to get from the deck to the backyard. Anything more than that he would likely need some assistance. Pilgrim's adoption donation of $225 helps cover the cost of his medical care and includes his cart. Application, reference checks, and home visit required. For more information on adopting, please email us at info@perfectpooches.org. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website at www.perfectpooches.org under the Adoption Process tab. All dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested (age appropriate), fecal tested and/or dewormed, and microchipped.

Story
Romeoville, IL- PENNY..... really needs a home of her own where she can get the love and attention she deserves. Penny is about 1.5 years old, weighs 60 lbs, and is a Catahoula/pit mix (DNA was done by previous owners). Penny was adopted from us spring of 2022 as a young, energetic puppy named Delta. Delta went to a home with 2 young kids (2 and 4 at the time) and a husband and wife. They rarely left her alone, as one parent was most always home. They report she was a wonderful dog, fantastic with the kids, smart, loving.... but unfortunately their oldest daughter could not learn how to be nice to Penny and they thought it was in Penny's best interest to return her Spring 2023. We always stand behind our dogs so we agreed to take her back, but with such a powerful, young, energetic dog- she has had to be kept separate from the others. She displays a lot of anxiousness around the other dogs and despite the previous owners saying they would take her to dog parks we believe she needs very slow and controlled meetings with new dogs. She had been taken to 2 rounds of obedience classes. We have found that she knows her basic commands and will do them when you have a treat, but without a treat she seems to get selective hearing 😉. She also pulls really hard on a leash- on a flat collar, slip lead and a harness. We are trying to work with her on this, but she definitely will need to continue leash training. Penny is stressed out being separated. It's been a huge transition from her going from always being with her people all day every day to being separated and not getting the undivided attention and limited outings. We thought we had found another foster home for her, but there was an altercation between her and one of the resident dogs not more than 5 minutes after we left. We think things just went too fast for her and she really needed time to decompress. We think she has amazing potential with a family/person that can work with her on basic manners and someone who can give her outlets to burn off her puppy energy. An adopter that will take things slow when it comes to dog introductions and understands that it is a process and not a race. One bad intro can ruin a relationship. Do you know someone that would be a great dog mom or dog dad to Penny? Please tag them in this post! Share!! For an approved adopter, Penny's adoption fee will be waived, but will require proof of enrollment in a training class for Penny. For more info please contact us at info@perfectpooches.org Home visits, reference checks and meet and greet required. (Cat compatibility is unknown, but can test if needed) Her previous family had this to say about Penny: "Penny is a wonderful girl who loves to play tug of war/probably her favorite game of all. She loves to go on long runs and is pretty good with keeping pace with her human without pulling. She is really great with kids and has a watchful eye for them as well. She has loads of energy and would be best suited with a family that could provide a nice size backyard or frequent trips to the dog park. She's really good with getting to know and playing with other dogs. She has stopped growing for the most part and should maintain her current weight. If you give her a nice beef bone or new chew toy, she'll go off to her favorite spot and work on it for quite some time. She's getting better at walking on a leash but still needs a little guidance and patients with it. Penny is pure muscle and will need someone to help her complete her leash training. She is getting better on the leash as time goes on, but could still use some work in that department. She is generally really good about not chewing things up, including kid's toys. She knows the difference between her toys and kid's toys, stuffed animals included. She loves to cuddle and take naps. She really loves people and enjoys lots of interaction with them. She's a fast learner and really makes training easy, especially when there's high value treats involved. Penny loves to show off the skills she has learned. She really is an awesome family dog and would do anything to protect them and make them happy. She has grown up with two young kids that range from 2-4 years of age and is so good with them. There has never been any worry about her and her interactions with the kids. She loves to play with them as much as she can. She's so gentle with them and seems to understand the strength difference between her and the kids." If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website at www.perfectpooches.org under the Adoption Process tab. All dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested (age appropriate), fecal tested and/or dewormed, and microchipped.
