Story
Romeoville, IL- PENNY really needs a home of her own where she can get the love and attention she deserves. Penny was born in October 2021, weighs 55 lbs, and is a Catahoula/pit mix (DNA was done by previous owners). Penny was adopted from us spring of 2022 as a young, energetic puppy named Delta. Delta went to a home with 2 young kids (2 and 4 at the time) and a husband and wife. They rarely left her alone, as one parent was most always home. They report she was a wonderful dog, fantastic with the kids, smart, loving.... but unfortunately their oldest daughter could not learn how to be nice to Penny and they thought it was in Penny's best interest to return her Spring 2023. We always stand behind our dogs so we agreed to take her back, but with such a powerful, young, energetic dog- she has had to be kept separate from the others. She displays a lot of anxiousness around the other dogs and despite the previous owners saying they would take her to dog parks we believe she needs very slow and controlled meetings with new dogs. She had been taken to 2 rounds of obedience classes. We have found that she knows her basic commands and will do them when you have a treat, but without a treat she seems to get selective hearing 😉. She has a tendency to pull on a leash, but has been doing well with a harness and slip leash as a combo, but she definitely will need to continue leash training. Penny is stressed out being separated. It was a huge transition from her going from always being with her people all day every day to being separated and not getting the undivided attention and only getting limited outings. We thought we had found another foster home for her, but there was an altercation between her and one of the resident dogs not more than 5 minutes after we left. We think things just went too fast for her and she really needed time to decompress. We think she has amazing potential with a family/person that can work with her on basic manners and someone who can give her outlets to burn off her puppy energy. An adopter that will take things slow when it comes to dog introductions and understands that it is a process and not a race. One bad intro can ruin a relationship. Penny has had exposure to a dog savvy cat and after the initial excitement she can walk by him on a leash without bothering him. We are not sure is she should be loose with a cat yet, but she shows potential for co-existing with a cat. Do you know someone that would be a great dog mom or dog dad to Penny? Please tag them in this post! Share!! Penny's adoption fee of $200 will be put towards a mutually agreed upon training class. For more info please contact us at info@perfectpooches.org Home visits, reference checks and meet and greet required. Her previous family had this to say about Penny: "Penny is a wonderful girl who loves to play tug of war/probably her favorite game of all. She loves to go on long runs and is pretty good with keeping pace with her human without pulling. She is really great with kids and has a watchful eye for them as well. She has loads of energy and would be best suited with a family that could provide a nice size backyard or frequent trips to the dog park. She's really good with getting to know and playing with other dogs. She has stopped growing for the most part and should maintain her current weight. If you give her a nice beef bone or new chew toy, she'll go off to her favorite spot and work on it for quite some time. She's getting better at walking on a leash but still needs a little guidance and patients with it. Penny is pure muscle and will need someone to help her complete her leash training. She is getting better on the leash as time goes on, but could still use some work in that department. She is generally really good about not chewing things up, including kid's toys. She knows the difference between her toys and kid's toys, stuffed animals included. She loves to cuddle and take naps. She really loves people and enjoys lots of interaction with them. She's a fast learner and really makes training easy, especially when there's high value treats involved. Penny loves to show off the skills she has learned. She really is an awesome family dog and would do anything to protect them and make them happy. She has grown up with two young kids that range from 2-4 years of age and is so good with them. There has never been any worry about her and her interactions with the kids. She loves to play with them as much as she can. She's so gentle with them and seems to understand the strength difference between her and the kids." If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website at www.perfectpooches.org under the Adoption Process tab. All dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested (age appropriate), fecal tested and/or dewormed, and microchipped.

Story
Hi there, my name is Hazel, and I am looking for my forever home. I am currently being fostered in a home with another fur sibling, and I am learning so many things like sit, stay, and wait. I also love to play with my fur sibling, and I've met many other four-legged pups and everyone I meet I love to play with, I'm social like that! I love to go on daily walks and walk nicely on the leash with some pulling when I get excited. I'm told I'm pretty cute and that I'm such a good girl. I don't even have accidents in the house they say I'm something called housebroken? I'm also crate trained, but would prefer to be out. My rescue even took me to the vet and got me all of my vaccinations. I'm spayed and microchipped. Now, all I need is a family to call my own. If interested in meeting me, please reach out to A Tail of 4 Paws at rescue@atailof4paws.org

Story
Archie is such a special little guy in so many ways that we aren’t sure that writing this bio will do him justice, but we sure are going to try! Archie was found as a skinny stray at six weeks old. At animal control it was quickly discovered that he had a vision impairment, and was clumsy and wobbly on his feet. The Animal Control veterinarian wasn’t quite sure what condition he had specifically, but knew something neurological was going on. When our team met him, and saw how spirited, loving, and happy he was despite his challenges, she knew that WISH had to help him and get him into a foster home. We didn’t know what was going on with him exactly, but we were committed to finding out as much as we could with the help of our veterinary team. Archie has seen our regular veterinarian, as well as an eye specialist. Despite some subtle facial deformities (that somehow just add to his cuteness), and his vision impairment, Archie is a fairly normal developing puppy. It is suspected that he may have cerebellar hypoplasia (which causes him to have a wobbly gait), that has improved as he has grown and gained more muscle (as is typical with cerebellar hypoplasia). If he does have cerebellar hypoplasia, he is pretty steady compared to other dogs and cats with the condition! He can run, jump, and play! In fact, he loves to play so much with other dogs that we are hopeful to find him a home with another playful dog to wrestle around with and play. Although we learned that Archie is blind, you’ll swear that he can see! He is able to quickly map out his surroundings and navigates them well. And if he gets confused, he lets out these little whimpers and cries almost like he is calling mom for help. We happen to find it so darn adorable! Archie is also able to follow sound, which is helpful when he is playing in the yard or can’t see you, but knows you are there. For Archie’s safety we think a home with no stairs or minimal stairs, and a fenced yard would be best. Archie is an incredibly friendly pup who really thinks everyone and everything wants to be his friend. Strangers? Yup! Kids? No doubt! Dogs? You betcha! He’s just a happy, go lucky guy. Which is pretty amazing considering the adversity he has experienced. He romps around with favorite toys, and likes to play chase like any other puppy. He loves a good nap, and is a world class snuggler. He quickly forms attachments with things he uses regularly like his crate, dog bed, and preferred toys, and thrives on routine. This is a skill that can take some dog owners months to train a puppy. But not Archie! He is calm in his crate, and quietly sleeps through the night. He is happy to find his favorite dog bed and take a nap, and is even doing well with housebreaking. Archie comes to find us when he has to go potty, but like any other puppy his age, he will still need support in this area. Archie’s breeds are a mystery to us, but given the area he came from, and his personality, we think it is likely that he is a pitbull or pitbull mix. Regardless of that we do know that he is 100% cute. Our vet thinks he will grow to be about 60 lbs. Archie is a really special boy looking for that special person or special family to share his life with. Every person that meets Archie falls in love with him. He’s got something about him where you just can’t resist his charms. Archie needs a home where he can safely explore and be afforded the opportunity to be his absolutely lovable self. Special needs dogs make outstanding companions and Archie is ready for the challenge.

Story
Do you believe in love at first sight? Well I believe in love at first sniff. Being born blind robbed me of the opportunity to see my forever family but it did not take my spirit, or my striking good looks. Somehow pictures never do me justice. Imagine the petite roundness of a bulldog body with a big block pittie head. And don't forget the double merle coat. I'm a beauty, its okay, I know it! Everyone who meets me is amazed at how special of a dog I am, too. Some say I would make an amazing therapy dog because I am so relaxed, lovable, and gentle. I enjoy the little things in life like listening to the wind and feeling the sun on my skin. I love to spend hours outside napping and sniffing. If I’m not ready to go inside yet I like to scrunch down into a little ball then spin and bark. I also love being inside, the cold floors, nice smells, and my foster siblings are great. The cats don’t seem to care about me, which is fine. We can coexist! But that’s okay me and the ferret got a bromance going on! I have a dog foster brother too! But, we haven't really figured out how to play together. He likes to play chasing games, and I just can't do that because I can't see him and he is so fast. So we stick to the roommate life which is okay with me! It will take me a bit but I will learn my surroundings, and map out my house, like all other blind dogs, and then be able to navigate the house with ease. People always swear that blind dogs can see because of how well these use their intelligence and other senses to find their way around! I’ve been with my foster mom for almost 2 months and in that time I’ve learned how to go from my room to the water bowl to the back door and then to NARNIA! I’ve also learned that I like squeaky toys and do not like tug a war. I am crate trained though and don't mind just laying down and napping. I actually really enjoy napping. Give me outside time, a good bed to nap on, and some cuddling and I'll be your perfect companion. As for home life a single story home would be ideal. More than few steps can be dangerous for a blind dog. I would love to find my forever family. Could it be you? The adoption fee for Wonder Boy is $450. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. Story
Lavender is a four year old pittie who is as sweet as her name suggests. This girl found herself abandoned in a trailer yard after her owner passed away. Thankfully, after so much loss and uncertainty, Lavender ended up at a small animal control where dedicated volunteers were determined to get her into a home. Along came her foster mom who knew the second she met her that she was going to take Lavender home to help her find her forever home. Lavender is full of life, and it is absolutely contagious. She is happy to be alive. Happy to say hi. Happy to play. Happy to cuddle up for a nap. Just happy, happy, happy! She enjoys sunbathing, going for walks, playing with her toys, fetch, and cuddle time. But most of all, just being in the presence of people best. She is a wonderful companion to have around. Lavender is so gentle, and loving and has so much joy and loyalty to offer any family lucky enough to have her. Lavender is smart, easy to train, and loves to learn which would make her great for agility training, and really any kind of training if we are being honest. She is an athletic girl and never skips leg day. Lavender is very praise driven and eager to please but she does also enjoy learning with treats. She is a such a sponge! At the same time Lavender loves to hang out and chill with people while watching TV in her doggy bed, too. She is potty trained and crate trained like a pro to top it all off. We are so excited to give our Lavender girl (and her kong) her happily ever after after being a loved dog that became an abandoned dog. She's special and deserves a special home. Could that be you? The adoption fee for lavender is $300. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Story
Characteristics - friendly, sweet, playful, lazy, affectionate Meet Opie Opie was found outside with no background information, but he clearly came from a home as his little tuxedo shows no signs of wear and tear. He’s estimated to be between 1 and 2, and he definitely still has that puppy cuteness to him, despite his huskier size. He loves nothing more than cuddles, back and belly scratches, and affection. His favorite activity is somersaults in the yard and then waiting on his back for someone to come and rub his tummy. This guy will thrive in a yard that he can make his own and with soft grass for him to roll in and the occasional sprint. Opie also loves filled Kongs and exciting dog toys. He’s been a great houseguest and knows which toys are his, and which are the kids. Opie also loves going right up to kids and adults alike and giving them a nice side body push for some love returned. Opie is working on simple skills such as “come” and “sit” and has almost mastered both. He’s very close on “down.” He’s eager to learn and is motivated by treats, and working with a clicker thru positive reinforcement. Opie has also quickly learned to respond to his name and is silly, but smart. Opie is in a home with kids (9 and 6 years old) and is the most happy when they come home from school. He loves to greet them at the door and roll around with them in the yard, give tons of kisses, and go on walks with them. Occasionally on walks he enjoys just laying, army crawling, and observing, but once the kids call him, he’s up and at it again. He’s still learning how to best walk with his leash, but has made improvements. The smallest things bring Opie joy on walks; leaves, sticks, and soft grass. The rain and thunder were no bother to Opie, as he was more concerned about the kids’ reaction to thunder and making them feel okay. Opie is affectionate and wants his humans to be happy. Opie also gets some fomo when he sees other dogs. He did great meeting a 100-pound Rottweiler; super playful and was actually sad when she left. The funniest is when he tries to jump up for the birds and squirrels. Opie has a beautiful, soft coat that appears not to shed much, and soft sweet paws. He’s comfortable with people touching his paws, ears, and anywhere and everywhere he can get a good scratch. His teeth are bright and look well cared for; Opie has no issue with us grabbing the occasional stick out of there. He is not too keen on jumping up into beds or into the car, so he needs someone able to pick him up or get little doggy stairs/ramp. Once he’s in the car though, he is cool and calm and loves a good car ride. If he’s not quietly looking out the window, he’s curled up in his seat napping. Opie’s forever home would be great with a family or someone who works from home and would love to share their time with a great companion. He’s crate trained but prefers to be out and around people. He is a true sweetie, loves all people, and will make a great addition to so many homes. His foster family will be sad to see him go, but are excited for him to find his forever! The adoption fee for Opie is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Opie please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team members.

Story
Introducing Jude, a two year old Pittie that was sadly left behind and abandoned in her home. Unsure what the story was, we received a call about a dog left in a home and after leaving a notice, she was removed from the home with no signs of her previous family. Jude completed her stray hold at our facility and is hoping to find her a loyal family that will add her as a permanent member to the home. Jude is quite the character and loves to play with toys and zooms around with her canine pals. Wrestling and chase is her favorite with her buddies and she would love to have another doggie brother/sister at home to keep her company. Someone that can keep up with her spirited personality and be down for all the puppy shenanigans. Jude loves treats and will gently take them your hands. She's always up to greeting everyone on her walks to say hello. She is looking for a feline free home as she thinks they are toys, not friends. Her adoption fee is $235, which includes her vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, heartworm test, current heartworm/flea prevention, registered microchip, and spay.

Story
Our next available pup is Cosmo! Cosmo is our silly boy that's about a year and a half old. He loves to make people laugh and can be quite derpy at times. We love his brindle eye patch and his unique pattern on his cute nose. Cosmo loves to play with other dogs and will happily entice them in a game of play bow and zooms. He is looking for a home with no small dogs, cats, or male dogs in general. He does great with a large female dog here but being the longest resident has really started to take a toll on Cosmo and kennel stress is real. He loves sitting at your feet, being your shadow. He loves treats and will show you his gratitude by licking every little crumb off his face. He's not the most coordinated as he'll let the treat bounce right off his head as catching it midair is too much effort. He's a big snuggle bug and he all he wants to do is make you happy and laugh! It's his comical personality that wins us over. His adoption fee is $160, which includes his vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, heartworm test, heartworm/flea prevention, registered microchip, and neuter. He is already fixed!

These pups are in Romeoville, Illinois too!

Hi, my name is Honey. I'm about 1.5 year old Bull Dog /Pit Bull mix. I am looking for my forever home or foster to adopt home. My current foster family is going to be relocating soon, and I am looking for my forever family. Let me share what my ideal home would look like: an active family that will continue my training and give me regular walks. My new family will give me expectations and structure. I would also love a fur companion that likes to play. You see, I don't have a long list, but these are things that will help with my happy energy. I am housebroken and crate trained. I love to cuddle and be with my people. I do walk nicely on a leash, but sometimes I do pull when I see rabbits, squirrels, or another doggie I would want to play with. I get along with other dogs. I would do better with children 10 or older as I get excited and don't want to knock down smaller children.. I am current on my vetting- spayed, rabies vaccine, distemper vaccine, bordatella, negative fecal, negative heartworm, negative Lyme, and Erlichia. If you are interested in meeting me please go to the website www.atailof4paws.org and fill out the application. Your one application away from meeting me.
