Story
Hi, I’m Flower. I am a not quite 1 yr old, 40 lb pittie mix girl full of love and life. I am so happy to be out of the shelter and in my foster home where I can run around in the backyard and play with the other dogs.  I am completely potty trained so you don’t have to worry about teaching me that. The only thing you should worry about is me stealing your heart! I love laying and playing outside in the yard whether that be with my tennis ball, other dogs, or sunbathing. My foster mom says I run like a deer when I am excited! If you are looking for a couch potato, that works too! I would love to cuddle and watch tv (yes i mean watch tv). I am great with cats. I would do best in a home older kids (10+) just because I get excited a lot. I can’t wait to meet my future family and have a place I can call home. My ideal home is a family that works from home and wants to take me on all of their adventures because people are my favorite thing ever!   If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $300 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Story
Introducing the prettiest princess in all of the land, Miss Princess Patty!! Patty has been in rescue for OVER 2 YEARS NOW! How on earth has this perfect princess not find her forever home? Patty is wagging her tail 24/7, she is always in a good mood and will for sure make you smile and laugh when you are together. When she is very excited she will do what we call, “The Patty Dance”. (You will just fall over in awe when you watch her do this) Princess Patty does not require much exercise, yes she is a little on the piggy side, but don’t judge her! She has arthritis in her hips and knees so too much running around makes her tired and sore. Miss Patty prefers to be the only pet in the house. She just wants to Netflix and chill with her people! She is very low maintenance. Please consider adopting the most wonderful girl around! I mean, a princess must have her very own castle, right? The adoption fee of $150 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Story
Hi, my name is Nellie. I came up from Kentucky to Illinois for the Christmas holiday and  since I have been here I have been enjoying my new comfy life and all my new toys. I have not met a toy that I haven’t liked, but I tend to like the ones that my foster sister has the best . I play a strong game of tug and am learning to love fetch as I run super fast. I get a little excited at times when I am having a lot of fun playing so I need a house that has older kids.As much as I play I love naps and I sleep through the night with my foster mom but they say I  snore really LOUD. I love love ,kisses and hugs from everyone .  I am a little over a year old and weigh 45 pounds. I am potty trained with timing and crate trained. I enjoy my morning and evening walks . I don’t like getting into a car cause that is still really new to me  but I  love riding and looking out the windows the entire drive after I get in. . If my water bowl is empty I will bring it to you to show you. I get along with my foster sister and visiting dogs but I am not a submissive girl so introductions would need to be done with monitoring. I seem to like boys  dogs better than girls but I am super social when I’m out in public and have to meet and greet every person and dog  I see. In the short time that I’ve been here. I’ve learned to sit and lay down so they say I’m super smart . If you wanna lay on the couch, I definitely can be your cuddly blanket, if you can get past my snoring . I take all my treats super gentle and enjoy my food . I am inquisitive and eager to learn. I am athletic girl who will want to exercise a lot as I am young and silly .  Sent from my iPhone    If you are interested in adopting/meeting , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Story
Alex is a 2-year-old pittie mix weighing in a 73 lbs, with a big heart and an even bigger love for playtime and making friends. He’s a sweet, loving boy who is both crate trained and housebroken. Alex thrives in a home with medium to large dogs, as he loves to romp around with buddies his size. However, because he has a high prey drive, a home without cats would be best. He’s a quick learner, picking up commands fast, though he can be a little cautious with new experiences. Since he’s a big, strong guy, older kids would be a better fit for him. A fenced-in yard would be ideal so he can get plenty of exercise. And let’s not forget—his brindle coat is absolutely stunning in person! Pictures don’t do justice to his gorgeous, intricate markings. If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion, Alex might just be your perfect match! Mookie is a beautiful 9-year-old Pit Mix, weighing just under 80lbs. She was in a foster home for a couple years before being transferred to our rescue. Mookie has been at WCHS for over 2.5 years waiting for a family to take her in.Mookie is sweet and playful with the people she knows and trusts. She needs slow introductions, but once she trusts you, she is madly in love! Mookie always keeps her kennel clean and enjoys playing with squeaky plush toys and snuggling in bed. She loves to go on walks with all her volunteer friends. She thinks she's a lap dog too, and it's hard to tell that sweet face no! Mookie's favorite outdoor activities include sunbathing and taking naps in the pool. Mookie has been diagnosed with arthritis and hypothyroidism. She is on meds for both and seems to be doing well! She is working on losing some weight to help with the arthritis, too. Mookie does prefer to be the only dog in the home. She isn't a fan of cats.Mookie is a wonderful dog who is deeply loved by shelter staff and volunteers. We hope her forever family will come soon!

Story
Queenie is a gorgeous, 4 year old, 65lb pit mix who is just a giant baby in disguise. She is full of energy and loves to play! She has no knowledge of personal space and just wants to be on top of you and in your face. She loves to greet you with her sweet face and wagging tail. She would make an excellent companion and cuddle buddy! Queenie has been at WCHS for over 2.5 years waiting for her forever family. The shelter staff adore Queenie. She is such a wonderful girl who has been overlooked for quite a while.Queenie can be a little timid at first, but once she meets you, she is a lovebug and a goofball! Her favorite toys are giant rope toys and hard chew bones. She loves to run in our fenced outdoor pens and enjoys a good walk with her favorite people. Queenie would do best in a home without other dogs or cats. She would do best with no young kids. For allergies, Queenie is on a fish-based sensitive skin and stomach diet. She also receives Apoquel daily. Please help us get Queenie out of the shelter!

Story
Marlo is 3 years old and guessed to be a Saint Bernard/ Pit mix. This beautiful girl has been at WCHS for over 2 years. She's all muscle (weighing in around 75lbs) and goofy, loving eyes. While some might find her looks to be intimidating, this girl could not be sweeter. The shelter staff adore this girl and she gives just as much love in return. Not only is Marlo loving, she is very energetic and active. She loves walks and does great with her harness. She is a big fan of our fenced outdoor pens where she can run and play with toys. Speaking of toys, Marlo LOVES balls: tennis balls, basketball-sized balls, giant indestruct-a-balls. You name it, she's playing soccer with it. She does need some training with play time as she can get too excited when you go to grab the toy and will try to grab it at the same time as you. She will gently jump up onto you for love and to give kisses, too. Sometimes she'll even climb onto your lap to snuggle. Marlo needs an active and strong leader who can help her be her best! She is looking for a home without cats or young kids. She is dog-selective, but dog meets are welcome. She seems to do best with more submissive, easy-going dogs. Are you looking for an active dog with lots of love to give? Marlo would love to come home with you!

Story
Meet Cupcake! This gorgeous girl came to us from local animal control after a long, rough, confusing start to life. Cupcake is a typical young pup: full of energy and very curious. She is a very active and energetic dog. Cupcake is likely a pitbull/lab/shepherd mix, weighing in just over 60lbs. She is approximately 2 years old. She needs a home that will work with her through her puppy-type behavior and training. She is incredibly smart and knows how to sit and give paw for treats. She does have issues with occasionally jumping up for treats or attention but is easily redirected. Cupcake does have some fear with meeting new people, but once she gets to know you, she is an absolute love! Plus, how can you not love those huge ears! Cupcake would be best placed in a home without cats or young kids.

Story
Meet Otis, our big sweet 5-year-old pittie mix! He weighs in at around 95lbs. Otis was originally adopted out from us as a puppy but sadly returned for no fault of his own - owners moving away and can't take him with, and the other dog in their home was not the biggest fan of Otis. Despite this, he's a happy guy who loves attention and treats. He is always greeting us with his tail wagging! Otis seems to love every person he meets. He is a bit anxious around some other dogs. He seems to be most comfortable with dogs who are more reserved like he is.Otis has some mobility issues in his back legs that cause him to limp. Our vet examined him and believes these issues are due to previous leg injuries that were not treated and healed poorly. He has been started on carprofen and gabapentin to help with the pain associated with this, and he will likely need to remain on these meds long-term. Otis had a large benign lipoma removed from near the base of his tail. Due to the size of the lipoma, most of Otis' tail had to be removed with it. He has healed wonderfully from the surgery and is a super happy boy!Otis is an incredibly sweet young dog, and we are certain he will bring so much love to his adopters. Help us get this gentle giant back in a home again!

Story
Introducing Calvin, a three year old Pittie that arrived to JTAC as as stray. Calvin was in pretty rough shape when he first arrived. He was thin, looked broken in spirit, and had a severe skin infection where he was swollen and painful. We started him on antibiotics and medicated bathes and he has enjoyed his extra TLC. Calvin is learning how to be a dog again and enjoy the best of life. He did well with other dogs and is curious on how to play. He can be quite wiggly and show off his goofy side when meeting others. He`s currently learning how to play with toys and gets overjoyed at the sight of them! He shares them perfectly and will hop around when he chases tennis balls. He`s quite a goof. Calvin is a great example of how dogs can have a rough past and just need a chance for a second life. His adoption fee is $235, which includes his vaccines, fecal exam, deworming, current heartworm/flea prevention, heartworm test, registered microchip, and neuter

These pups are in Plainfield, Illinois too!

Story
Chance is full of energy and love. He adores children and makes an excellent family dog. He needs an active family and since my divorce I just cant provide him the time he deserves. Chance is perfectly healthy but he does have flank alopecia which has caused him to lose hair on his sides in two small spots. Because he isn’t bothered by it we havent sought remedies other than trying fish oil and melatonin to no avail. He is absolutely not good with other dogs. If you have other dogs, I will not rehome him with you. He had a terrible experience as a puppy and we’ve never been able to get him passed it. In true boxer fashion, he still acts like a puppy most days. He’s very well behaved and notifies us anytime someone comes near the house, otherwise no barking.
