Story
Sweet, smart, energetic mixed breed needs new family! My 94 year old father has been forced to give up his beloved Mazie, due to his diminishing health. Mazie is a happy dog that loves to play, is very demonstrative with her love toward her friends and family and simply not interested in strangers. She behaves fine, remaining quiet and calm with people coming in and out of her assisted living apartment each and every day. Mazie is very smart and learns quickly. She knows to go to her crate and stays there comfortably. She can sit and stay (for a short time) and shake hands and understands "Quiet". She is walked daily on leash, and is in the process of being taught to walk quietly on a leash, but she is not quite there yet. Unfortunately Mazie is not comfortable and socialized around other dogs or small pets and small children. She can entertain herself and is awesome with adults, as this is what she is used to. Our family already have pets and sadly cannot take our beloved girl.

Story
Hello there, I'm Ace. I'm a bit on the shy side, but I promise I'm as sweet as can be. I've got a gentle spirit that shines through once you get to know me. I'm friendly, too, but I'm still figuring out this whole leash thing. It's a bit scary for me, but I'm a quick learner. I'm sure with a little patience and a lot of love, I'll get the hang of it. I'm just looking for someone who's willing to take the time to understand me. I promise, if you give me a chance, I'll be the most loyal friend you've ever had. Adopt me, not just because I need a home, but because I have so much love to give. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas at least monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. ##1953445##

Howdy Ho! I'm Hitch and I am a 1 year old Australian Cattle Dog! I'm so sweet and the most mellow, gentle, and loving boy out there. I was found by a good samaratian who is fostering me and taking care of me. I had an injury that caused me to have my tail partially amputated, but no worries as it's healed and not causing any problems. I seem to do great with other dogs and would be a perfect family pup.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Story
Urgent - Maizy needs a new home within 2 weeks of this posting. Maizy is a good girl - very sweet, very smart; loves to cuddle, loves to play, loves to learn. She's about 6 years old, about 30 to 35 pounds, and is healthy and well loved. The ONLY reason she is listed here is that her person - my father - has developed a rapidly worsening dementia, and he cannot care for Maizy adequately. Maizy is housetrained, crate trained, and leash trained. We are working with her now to teach her about what you might expect from her on a leash - Dad never expected much. He just loved her. Maizy has been through a lot of changes this year, moving with Dad to assisted living, living temporarily with friends when he got the flu. She really wants a new and stable home very soon. YOU are a great match for her if you can offer: 1) companionship & can be home with her most of the time 2) a place she can safely run her zoomies and play fetch, 4) Maizy can be the only pet in your household. 5) LOVE

Story
Maizy is a well loved dog - it's not her fault her person (my elderly father, who has dementia) can no longer care for her properly; we're heartbroken to have to find her a new home. Maizy is very sweet, very smart, accustomed to being loved. She is house trained, crate trained, leash trained. She loves her pets & cuddles, loves learning (she's very willing), loves to play. She's a healthy, 5 or 6 years old mixed breed dog - her breeds are unknown - we are guessing. . Her perfect forever home will allow her to be the only pet in the household, as Maizy has always been uncomfortable around other dogs & also cats. It would be so great if she could find a new home with a retired person/couple who has experience loving dogs, and offers a fenced backyard - and lots of love. Please open your heart to her. We would keep her if we could - but our furry family is overflowing.
