Supporters and Recurring Giving Donors will be put on our VIP Application List &#226&#128&#139 Adoption Costs and other important information. If you are interested in adopting from Sterling Animal Shelter, please submit an application through our "Pets for Adoption" page.  We are currently open by appointment only Tuesday through Friday, and have Open Hours on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.  Our appointments are scheduled by matching our applications to our available pets. If your application is chosen, our staff will contact you to set an appointment for a meet and greet to spend some time with the animal one-on-one. We do still have same day adoptions, and if your meet is successful, you can take your pet home at the time of your appointment.  To find the best match for each pet, we prefer to have the entire family present when doing an adoption. If you have a dog at home already, please be prepared to bring your resident dog to meet a potential new dog, to ensure all parties get along. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet. Story
Meet Leo! He is about 2 years old, 40 lbs, and he may have some Blue Tick Coonhound in his mix! In his foster home, he is working on his house-training, crate-training and leash-walking. He could go to a home with kids 8+, and other dogs. Cats are unknown. He is BFF's with Lilou. His foster say, "Leo is an energetic, loving dog looking for the perfect home! He loves long walks and playing with other dogs! Leo is food motivated and eager to please his owner. He hasn't had a lot of training but is so smart and would thrive in obedience training and love the opportunity to bond with his owner. Leo isn't big on many toys, but does love tug-o-war and anything he can do that with! He wants to spend his relaxed times on the couch with his head in your lap getting all the scratches and kisses you have! He is used to having a buddy to play with so a home with another dog would be fun for him! He may be a herding breed, but he does wonderful alone and has never chewed on furniture, shoes, gotten into the trash, or even tried getting into the food bag or treats! He is crate trained and occasionally has accidents if left too long outside of his kennel, but hasn't had an accident inside the kennel ever. He loves his kennel and goes in there to eat and relax on his own! Leo is just a fun loving dog that deserves a home where he gets to run and play and be the goofy sweet guy he has grown to be!"He is available for adoption with an approved adopter in N Dartmouth on March 1st. Please fill out an application on our website at https://www.browndogcoalition.com/adoptable as a first step.- Please thoughtfully discuss with your entire household the physical, financial, and emotional responsibilities of a puppy/dog BEFORE applying to adopt.- Puppies/dogs may not be given as gifts or surprises.- More information about our adoption process, application and adoption fee can be found at browndogcoalition.com
