Story
from foster parentTommy has been playing well with our female Labrador. We brought him along to a friend’s bonfire party last week. He played very well with the other male dog there and was sociable with all the people there. Typically he is reactive in the backyard, he barks a lot and wants to chase the birds. He was very afraid the one time we went to a pet store; there was too much going on for him, I think. He does not load easily into the car, but he is fine once placed in the car. He is easily very fearful and tucks his tail when new experiences are presented. He is mostly fine on walks, he is just curious to smell things. He is not a great leash walker, he can pull very hard if he wants to. I am unsure if he is really house broken. We have trained him to ring the bell to go outside, but that is always prompted by us being at the door and telling him to ring it if he wants to go out. He has had two accidents in the house, but we keep him on a regular bathroom schedule. He goes outside 5-6 times per day to play, and anytime he leaves his crate I put him outside first to try to bathroom train him. He seems perfectly crate trained. He never has accidents in his crate and he sleeps through the night in the crate. He is also fine in the crate while we are gone. He knows the command “Kennel” perfectly, he will run straight in. We’re also working on knowing to sit and wait for the “OK” command before he can leave his crate. The “Down” command is also partially known, it is still a work in progress. He has experienced loud noises like thunder and the vacuum running, and he doesn’t seem to have any fear of things like that. Tommy loves all the stuffed toys we have, but if he plays with them too long he will start to rip them and tear out the stuffing. I don’t think he swallows the stuffing or any part of the toy, but leaving stuffed toys in his crate alone with him should be monitored.Tommy is a very affectionate dog who really just wants pets and cuddles. He is somewhat food motivated. He also is a bit mischievous. Counter surfing and jumping up on people are the biggest issues we can’t seem to break him of. I hope he finds a home that will enroll him in obedience training formally to help break these habits and for him to learn more/become more comfortable being out and about.Email Foster@hsmo.org to meet him!

He was given to us by someone that could no longer keep him. He Likes to play and can be very loving, but also independent. He likes to be outside and go for walks. Hes a cuddler and acts like a lap dog, but will lay in his kennel as well. He likes to play with our cat and has been around her ever since she was a kitten. He has also been around smaller and larger dogs and does just fine. He can do a few tricks, such as sit, lay down, shake, and hugs. He needs a good, loving home. Someone that has time to care for him properly.

Story
We did Brownie's DNA! He's about half cattle dog and the next biggest result was Boxer but he is mixed with many other breeds. Brownie is a sweet, energetic and spunky guy who had a rough start in life. He loves affection and is a good boy. He was found as a stray in Bonne Terre and got picked up by animal control, which is just a shed. We believe Brownie would do best in a more quiet home with older or no kids and an active owner that would spoil him and give him the life he deserves. Brownie will need a fence as he has a high prey drive and loves to chase the yard critters. If there are other dogs in the home they should be about his size or bigger. We only adopt to people in the St. Louis METRO area. Please see our Adoption Policies here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TZjrOP29mqXvcHEC3zPaKXXnS80LaVGMA45Lc0-Z2MI/edit?usp=sharingInformation about the rescue and adoption process can also be found at www.stlpetrescue.com along with a full listing of our adoptable pets. Our adoption fees:Cats range from $150 to $175. Exotic breeds may be more. Dogs range from $250 to $350. High demand puppies and small dogs may be more. This fee includes: felv/fiv/heartworm testing, worming, flea and ear mite treatments, age-appropriate vaccinations, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination, lab work, dental or other medical or surgical treatments as deemed necessary by our team of veterinarians and a microchip with free registration.

Story
Nancy is a young Australian cattle dog who would just love to sit on your lap and be cuddled all day. She’s smart and full of personality with spurts of play time then lots of chill time.  Nancy is about 3 or 4 years old. She is completely house trained and is excellent in her crate. She’s good on a leash and knows several commands including “sit” and “kennel.” She is particularly motivated if treats are involved! Nancy loves other dogs but can get pretty rowdy when she plays. She would be great with a dog buddy as long as the dog is accepting, playful, and not easily offended by silly antics. One of Nancy’s favorite things is to talk to all her favorite toys. Nancy needs a home with a fenced-in yard and would prefer someone who has herding dog experience. No kids under 10 please. Nancy is being fostered in the St. Louis area. ##1270950##

Story
Gabriel came to us from a rural shelter in the Carolinas. This young dog had been seriously injured after being hit by a car. The impact broke his leg and caused his eye to pop out. Although veterinarians were able to save his eye, he wasn’t able to see out of it, so it eventually had to be removed. He has recovered quickly from that procedure as well as surgery to fix his leg. Although Gabriel is only a couple years old, he totally acts like a puppy. He is extremely curious, energetic, and playful, but also loves to snuggle. He adores playing tug, thinks chew toys are fantastic, and has a blast with stuffed toys and his Jolly Ball. Gabriel is doing great with potty training and is working on leash and crate manners. He’s a quick learner and knows sit, kennel up, and hush. He is goofy and can be rowdy, but he totally wants to be a good boy. Gabriel is good with dogs that like to play as hard as he does. He needs a home with a fenced-in yard. He’d be fine as an only dog or would have fun with a well-matched dog pal. He’d love a family who might be interested in dog sports or other fun activities and who will spend time continuing to teach him how to be a great dog.  Gabriel wants to play and wants to be loved and cuddled. He certainly deserves it after his traumatic experiences. He’s being fostered in the St. Louis area. ##1864447##

Introducing Kylie and Sidney, the 6yo dynamic duo of toy Australian Shepherds who bring joy and warmth wherever they go. Kylie, the outgoing one of the pair, is always the first to greet new friends with her wagging tail and infectious enthusiasm. Sidney, on the other hand, may be a bit more reserved, but her sweet and friendly nature shines through in every interaction. Weighing in at a petite 15 pounds apiece, these two pint-sized pups may be small in stature, but they make up for it with their big hearts and boundless energy. With their playful personalities, they will thrive in a securely fenced yard where they can run and romp to their hearts' content. While they may not be fans of walking on a leash just yet, they are making great strides with their potty training, proving themselves to be quick learners and eager to please. Together, Kylie and Sidney are the perfect pair, reminding us all of the joy that comes from the unconditional love and companionship of our furry friends. These sweet girls are retired breeder dogs who spent their entire life in a kennel raising puppies for money. They are loving life in a real home. They get along fine with dogs their size, they initially bark at big dogs. They are fine with dog savvy cats too. While they are not in a home with children they would likely do fine with older dog respectful children. They are best of friends and will only be adopted together. Story
Meet Miss Chloe, she is a 2 yo, 12 lb courageous soul on a journey from fear to affection. Once a timid resident of a puppy mill, she's transformed into a sweetheart with endearing quirks: Belly Rub Enthusiast: Chloe can't resist belly scratches and will gently paw for more affection if you pause too long. Dog Lover Extraordinaire: Learning the ropes of being a dog from her foster siblings, Chloe follows their lead, especially with outdoor bathroom breaks. However, she's had a few accidents indoors without their guidance. The Collector: Chloe has a talent for gathering treasures and storing them in her crate. Don't be surprised to find your missing items there! While Chloe has made significant progress, she remains cautious and prefers a calm environment. Her ideal home includes: A Cozy Crate: Chloe's crate is her safe haven, providing comfort and security for her and her prized possessions. A Fenced Yard: Leashed adventures are still new to Chloe, so a secure yard is essential. She's extremely scared on a leash and could potentially harm herself trying to escape. Patience and Love: Chloe takes time to warm up, but once she trusts you, her sweet and spunky personality shines through. No Kids: While Chloe has shown no aggression, she thrives in a quiet and predictable environment, making a home without young children ideal. Miss Chloe is a joyous addition to any loving pack. Quiet and well-mannered, she'll follow you around the house, always watching. To approach her, it's best to sit down as she's intimidated by people standing. With patience and love, Chloe will be the perfect companion, discovering the wonders of her new life alongside you. Are you ready to welcome this lovable hoarder into your heart? Chloe is being fostered in St Peters Mo. Her adoption fee is $295 apply at istodaymaydayrescue.org.
